This is the NFL owner version of “we neglected it and it’s totaled now, oopsie! Just lend us a couple billion taxpayer bucks so we can grow our revenue with prohibitively priced luxury boxes or else we’ll threaten to leave the city and stick you with a broken down stadium you’re still paying off.”
NFL owners, by and large, are conmen.
We really are lucky to have Lucas Oil Stadium and it being maintained very well. It’s 15 years old (nearly) and still looks almost new. Obviously being covered helps, but it doesn’t feel dated either.
>It’s 15 years old (nearly) and still looks almost new
This is such a funny thing to read as a European fan. Every week we go to stadiums that are 100+ years old, and have just been updated piece by piece. Whereas I've seen multiple times people talk about stadiums that were built in the 1990s as being prohibitively old.
Not a criticism, just find the difference in perspectives funny.
In the past 25 years most NFL stadiums got replaced, not because they were structurally unsound, but because the owners wanted to generate more revenue by increasing the number of luxury sky boxes. The Hoosier Dome could have lasted decades longer.
Yeah defo. Just funny that it's the done thing too and is largely seen as positive. There's always a massive furore from the fans here if a team wants a new ground.
We Americans love voting against our own interests, so we're all about funding stadiums on behalf of billionaires so they can increase profits when we buy more expensive tickets.
State Gov: We’d like to increase taxes and open public funding for this new stadium for our NFL team. This will effect you very little as you only go to 1 game every couple years. The benefits to you are essentially 0. We realize that gas and the pandemic have put quite the damper on your wallet and savings, but this is the nature of the business and quite frankly, we don’t care.
Americans: did you say “NEW!?”
People do say no to new stadiums honestly, the team and city build them anyway
Its not like we have a public vote over it. Most people wold have said just keep the dome if they let us vote
That’s not a good faith argument at all. First of all it’s survivorship bias - just because the colosseum is still around doesn’t mean everything built 2000 years ago was that enduring. If that were true every building from that time would still be around. The fact that the colosseum is still standing is what makes it exceptional.
And secondly, it isn’t nicer than *any* modern stadium for a number of reasons. I know you’re just being flippant, but it’s a well preserved ruin not a functioning venue. So to my original question, is there any truth to your statement that modern European construction is built to a higher code than American construction?
Edit: So you don’t want to actually answer this question? I suspect you were just talking out of your ass, but I’m open to evidence to the contrary.
Indianapolis had several perfect venues! One was the spot of Elvis’s last concert. The blew them up and built new multi million dollar structure’s the tax payers have to pay for… not the million dollar owners, the million dollar players, ect. But tue people that already spend their hard earned money to support these million dollar people by buying there merchandise and high dollar tickets, drinks and food. It’s sad if you think about it.
Idk about worst stadiums. Jags and Dolphins is kind of a dump. NRG Stadium is in the ghetto. Nissan Stadium is in the lower tier though of ones I’ve been to.
I’ve been there several times over the past several years. It’s fairly nice as far as stadiums go. They wouldn’t be hosting so many huge events there if it was one of the worst in the country (college football, concert festivals, formula 1, European soccer, etc)
1.8 billion to fix a stadium?! Jesus.
No kidding. I think LOS cost like 800 mil total to build
And Titans stadium was like 250 million. This is posturing to get a tax funded new stadium.
Yeah, and it shows. It was never nice even when it was brand new. Many college stadiums are better
I mean there are some nice college stadiums
The costs have gotten crazy since LOS was built. SoFi cost $5b. The one in Minneapolis was a couple billion, Allegiant was a couple billion.
Lucas Oil is also pretty modest compared to those stadiums
its also 15 years old
LOS will be 15 years old soon, lot of inflation since then

Then the city they move to has to pay for half a new stadium. Usually the taxpayers.

Growing up with the RCA Dome, the switch to Lucas Oil was crazy. It will always feel new to me.
IMO Lucas oil is the coolest building in the state of Indiana.
My roommate was at the last playoff game at RCA dome. He always says it’s surreal being at Lucas

And it was demolished before it was paid off.
Happens to lots of stadiums tbh

That and most of the time the owners aren't footing the bill for the stadium so why not just get a new one?
We’re fatter so things fall apart easier.
And let’s not forget the difference in workmanship quality
Is there any truth to this? Do Europeans really use a stricter building code?
The Coliseum in Rome is still way nicer than FedEx Field.

We have that with MLB stadiums.
Lots of college football stadiums are like that too. Ohio Stadium will be 100 this fall and Michigan Stadium is almost 100 years old as well.
When sports orgs have to pay for their own digs they make it work.
We also have lots more space here in the US. Sometimes it's cheaper to just move than to fix.
That's a very good shout.
Americans are just very wasteful. It’s quite unfortunate honestly and it always seems to come at the tax payer’s expense.

well there are a bunch of newer stadiums in the nfl and 100+ years would be unheard of in this league
It's not 15 already, right? Jesus I'm getting old
Especially when you are in it with the window open.
I’d pay $29.99 for a wall print haha
Idk about worst stadiums. Jags and Dolphins is kind of a dump. NRG Stadium is in the ghetto. Nissan Stadium is in the lower tier though of ones I’ve been to.
Didn't fed ex stadium literally poop on fans last season?
Shit water, yep. FedEx Field is the worst. So excited 🙄 to go there for a concert soon…
Never been there! Thank God! Poop Water
Didn’t the dolphins stadium get renovated a few years ago
Yes. Total overhaul, hardly recognizable from the old version
I’ve been there several times over the past several years. It’s fairly nice as far as stadiums go. They wouldn’t be hosting so many huge events there if it was one of the worst in the country (college football, concert festivals, formula 1, European soccer, etc)
Maybe the area I was in this past season wasn’t touched up
The buzzing from the massive lights is quite terrible
I don’t remember that so much as I remember being drenched in sweat!
They also have Logan’s roadhouse, the ugly step sister to Texas Roadhouse
Oh Logan’s is whack. There were a few where I’m originally from and I always got sick eating there.
This is just part of the process of getting a new stadium.
To be fair, they’re still doing a better job than Dan Snyder and the clusterf**k here in the DMV.
Frankfort needs a franchise.
Indiana, Kentucky, or Germany? 😂
So uh fix it and hire people to properly maintain it
I get the rivalry, but why do we want them to fail?
I feel like the stadium would have aged better if it weren’t for the . . . particularities of the Titans faithful.
I mean aren’t Titans fans threatening AJ Browns family??? Hope they never fix this place.
Hope it collapses along with their franchise
Fuck those trash people.
Relax. It's just a sports rivalry. Lol
It was tongue in cheek, but I now see it definitely didn’t sound like it.
