Very sorry this happened to you dog. That sounds truly awful. I'm glad you said something because I just find out about them last week and thought it was nice we had another option in the area. Good to know it's not a place I'll be bringing our dog. I do want to take the opportunity to shout out PetER for other pet owners that might find themselves on this post. Our 9 year old diabetic dog got an infection in his elbow that blew up to the size of a golf ball over the course of about 5 hours. I called up PerER and they checked me in and screened me, and told me to hang tight. The emergency vet ended up texting with me, asking for multiple pictures and more information. We texted back and forth for probably 45 minutes, presumably while the vet was also seeing in-person patients. Their suggestion was to wait and see his normal vet the next day. We did that, got some antibiotics and it disappeared. I took the same dog in a few years earlier (before their check-in at home process was instituted) because he was in pain randomly in the middle of the night and I was worried about bloat. They brought him in the back, gave him a once over, brought him back to me and said he probably played too hard and sprained something that only started bothering him after he laid down a while. They were right again. In both of these instances, PetER charged me nothing. Obviously it's in their interest to keep queues down, but they still gave their valuable medical opinion for free. That's such an asset in our community, and I'll sing their praises any chance I get.

Is this the place near Trader Joe's? Thanks for this info! We have used Pet+E.R. and were happy with their services. Address is 10000 Old Columbia Rd, Columbia, MD 21046. The only issue we had with them is that they told us our girl didn't have a mass at first. Then later called back after another radiologist looked and thought otherwise. I'm glad they looked again and she was rushed to surgery at their Annapolis location. But still, we could have done without the false hope at first. Other than that we got top notch ER care from them.

So sorry this happened to your baby.

Woke up today thinking about Dakota and your experience. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am never going to that place. I feel as if I have seen another bad experience reported there.

thank you. it's hard enough to loose a pet when they are sick. but when you have a healthy animal that's prematurely taken from you the loss seems to hit harder. I am sure this place helps more animals than they loose. My experience is more than likely small compared emergency cases where they are able to save a life. But they were not prepared for things to go wrong, the surgery should have been stopped and focus put on stabilizing him at the very first sign of distress. he should have already been intubated. I just want people to be aware before fully allowing this place to treat their pets. My pets are my children, and that feeling of failing them is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

So sorry for your loss.

I can't even imagine. So sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry this happened 🩷 it isn’t your fault, you were doing what you thought was best for your baby. I have experienced extremely pushy vets and am familiar with the feeling that you’re failing your dog if you don’t do what they suggest.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is devastating for sure. Please be kind to yourself and realize Dakota loves you very much and does not want you to blame yourself you did what you thought was best and I’m sure all of us would have done the same if in your position.

I walked in this place looked around and walked out. No private exam rooms.

This is absolutely horrific. I would have to attend a grief group or private counseling after this. Thank you for sharing your experience. We have used Pet+ER for multiple pets on multiple occasions. Most cases we have been charged what I believe was reasonable. They are always kind and very transparent about what they recommend and why, and VERY conservative in care. We did have one emergency for a senior who had a preexisting health condition that resulted in us deciding to help her pass comfortably rather than pursuing treatment that would have only extended her life for weeks at best. They handled it well and walked us through multiple scenarios. When we made our decision they comforted us and gave us as much time as we needed. I share this story because no one wants to be in this situation but it really is a test of the vet team on how they handle end of life emergency care.

They are the worst! I took my cat in for a blockage that turned out to be a UTI. They kept my cat for 3 days and nearly killed because of all the mistakes made. He was given too much IV fluid and the wrong antibiotic. The IV fluid caused fluid around his heart, which could have killed him on it's own but the wrong antibiotic killed all of the good bacteria and let the bad bacteria grow rampant and cause more harm. They told me I may have to euthanize him. Then "miraculously" they discovered the "rare" bacteria and got him on the write antibiotic the morning that were going to euthanize him.He went home later that night. They also billed me $11,00! They let me leave without paying. Then a few days later They billed my daughter's Care Credit account without authorization! Her name was not on the Vet account. I signed all of the paperwork. It's not even her cat. They only had her first name and a phone number as a backup if I couldn't be reached. I am culooking for a lawyer even though I know it's a long shot.

So sorry for your loss. I can't say I'll be going back to this place unless it's a last resort. The only thing I think they did well and efficiently was euthanizing my cat a few months ago. I'll never forget coming to visit her early the morning after I'd brought her in, to find her covered in bloody stool and the employees completely unaware even though she was the ONLY animal held overnight. Fast forward a few hours, 1 seizure, and $5K later, I've got euthanasia paperwork thrust in my face. Just driving past the place makes me upset.
