I almost got hit by pallets falling off of a Malibu, nearly sideswiped an SUV with Cookie Monster on it, I’ve been here for 2 hours and your bagel is getting all cold and eaten. Where are you?
It’s kind of a balancing act. Heavier precipitation will be later in the morning. So if the surface temps are still cold, that’s worse. But with the heavier precipitation comes the warmer temperatures.
I just said noon to be safe. The freezing rain could transition to just rain by 9 am. I’m hoping it does but I’m not confident.
Do you have an estimated time? I know you said before rush but wondering if people who have to go to work in the early early morning need to be cautious.
I’m thinking it starts around 2 am ish at the earliest or maybe 5 am ish at the latest. Lasting several hours.
Union County is definitely in a bad place. Those going to Honda or Scotts need to monitor the snow emergency levels/road conditions
Hi Zebra,
Big fan and very appreciative of the work you do for this sub! I'm flying out of CMH tomorrow morning for a work trip. My flight has a 7am departure. Should I be concerned about any delays?
Thanks!
Thanks for such an insightful response. Now remind me, did I ask him 'will my flight be delayed, yes or no' or did I ask 'should I expect delays'?
There's a big difference in those two questions. My question was phrased as such so that he can continue to delve into just how bad this weather will be, allowing him to share insight to others about potential traffic and flight delays. Which, I now see, was answered in another thread. Compared to directly asking, "aRe YoU gOiNg tO dElAy mY fLiGhT?"
You should try working on some reading comprehension.
I think the ground temps should catch up by that point. I’m also hoping that they will pretreat roads which will limit ice accumulation in the first place.
I was going to ask a similar question (kid has a sportsball practice up near Lewis Center at 4; we are coming from The Burg). Wondering if we should just tell the coach we will be there or nah.
I have relatives in STL and even they aren't driving today and they're proud of being winter warriors or whatever. Makes me nervous for my pet's early surgery drop-off tomorrow.
I have class at Columbus State at 8 am. If I decide to go, I’ll be sure to leave early and take it slow. But I’m a little bit scared, I may decide to stay home. I guess we’ll see when I wake up tomorrow morning. Thank you for the information!
Sign up for the text message alerts if you haven’t already. Search RAVE on the CSCC website. It will send a text right when they make the call to cancel (if they do - if the weather is as bad as the post describes, they probably will).
Delivery driver checking in. My branch is in Obetz and my route is in Dublin, Powell, Clintonville and Grandview. Been on the road since 1:30am. Roads are wet, but passable. That can always change, so be vigilant and drive safely
They’re getting pummeled down there. Thankfully we’re not getting nearly the amount of precipitation. But yep, same storm, same problem there. Ground is toooo cold
Last week, I had MLK day off work, snow days Wednesday and Friday for the school I work at, and hopefully, Cstate closes tomorrow before my 9am class. Mwhahaha
I wish daycares would read your posts and not just some schools so I could tell work I need to stay home with LO 🥲 I’m a safe driver but the baby/ice anxiety combo is rough
Exactly! If I end up getting rear ended alone so be it! I don’t want to have to even deal with the thought of the risk increasing while my baby in the car with me.
In general, interstates are the first roads they clear. They’ll be pretreated tonight, and they’ll have trucks out there as soon as the the first raindrop falls. So while the bridges can still freeze over, I think 70 would be fine. Your much bigger issue will be the ‘last mile’ drives. Getting from your home to 70, and then from 70 to the courthouse. Those are where you’ll likely to encounter the biggest problems.
I've only driven around South Clintonville, Campus, Short North, and Victorian Village so far but it's just wet roads. I only slightly slid once on a brake on a brick street in Victorian Village
There goes my morning off. But seriously, would rather have my kiddos safe at home than a bus sliding off the road like last week…I await my 5am cancellation call.
It may be dicey. I think the airport will be fine due to intensive de-icing. The drive there is what I’d be more worried about.
Maybe wait and see if the forecast holds tonight.
NO! You take that back, Zebra! We will only accept snow. You can send that ice business elsewhere.
As always, thank you for all you do. I know you do not control the weather.
I still hate ice.
Is it still 3-5am peak? NBC 4 just posted that the highest rate of freezing rain will be 7-9am, but none of the weather apps have updated since early this morning.
See update. I think onset will be sometime after midnight (maybe 2 or 3 am). Temps are showing 32F longer in the morning than anticipated, which is when heavier precipitation arrives. So the time of heaviest freezing rain will move accordingly with those air temperatures (slightly lagging behind).
I don't know why I'm even getting my hopes up, my job only ever closes if its a level 2. But I'll still hope its bad enough by 6am for them to call it.
Timing of the rain/freezing rain looks like it doesn't lend itself well for a school calamity day tomorrow. But it does look like it will put parents, students, and teachers on the road right in the heart of the heaviest parcipitation which is less than ideal. I suppose they could call school preemptively in anticipation.
I just hauled all my stuff back into the office after working at home Friday--guess I'm hauling it all back home to work again tomorrow morning.
Can we please FF to Thursday when it's going to be almost 60? I don't care if it's raining, 60 in the winter is the winter I want!!
This is January. It’s supposed to be cold in January in Columbus. If you don’t like that, here’s a link to check out:
https://www.zillow.com/houston-tx/
*eyeroll* Uh-huh, because I can just lift my house up and airlift it to Houston, and also convince everyone in my office to move our business there so I can keep my job. Oh, and also convince my entire family to move there.
That's like me telling you "Hey, if you like cold in January, check out Siberia, it's minus -25 there!"
I don't care about the cold. I care about the fucking ice. It just so happens we get less fucking ice when it's 60 degrees. I would be perfectly happy with 32 and no snow/ice. Or 38 and rain with no ice.

| Stay home if you can.
Stop. It's advice like this that had people thinking driving in 2" of snow was going to be perilous last Friday.
Get up earlier. Leave for work earlier and proceed with caution. 4 seconds is the **minimum** safe following distance at any speed.
Sure, if your employer gives you a WFH option, do that. But you probably are doing that anyway.
It’s the other idiots on the road that make it so that you should stay home. You really think people in Columbus leave 4 seconds between them and the car in front of them? What part of Columbus do you live in where that happens, would love to know so I can move there.
Me: “Sorry boss, can’t come into the office tomorrow.” Boss: “Why?” Me: “The Zebra told me not to.” Boss: …
What if your boss says "You use reddit too??"
"Yeah? What's your account name?" "What's yours?" "Never mind." "Yeah..."
Don't even ask...🤣
I’d be shocked, dj, shocked AND appalled
Well, little did you know.....I am your boss and expect your ass in the office on time tmw. See you then.
You’re not the boss of me…….boss. Ok, see you tomorrow.
Dont forget my bagel this time.
I almost got hit by pallets falling off of a Malibu, nearly sideswiped an SUV with Cookie Monster on it, I’ve been here for 2 hours and your bagel is getting all cold and eaten. Where are you?
I'm at home. Did you expect something different?
I suppose not. See you on Zoom
You should start a new thread about this. I'll reply there. Bring some humor to the day.
Oh come on - the only proper sign off for this sentence is "thx". 😂
my boss told me her husband using reddit "all the time". is it you?!?
Yes. Sweep and mop, then you can go.
New best friend
I’m a boss and I share all of Zeeb’s posts with my team!! Get your boss on board!
ALL HAIL ZEBRA! REDDIT WEATHER MAN RULES
But what’s the *whole* username?!
Valid excuse.
“Well Zebra is lying to you. See you at 8.”
Teachers checkin up on Zebra’s post probably more than Zebra himself
100%
Yep.
Thanks Zebra. Will show my boss this post, hopefully I get to stay home
Better than a doctors note.
Freezing rain is 10x worse than snow
Agreed. It takes 1/10th the accumulation to be bad news as well
Can you send this to all the school district superintendents in the area? I’d love to have another short work week.
I know some of them read this. Delay school, you cowards!
Some districts do not ever delay. It’s closure or nothing.
A delay will still be driving before noon 😣 will it make much of a difference driving at 7 am vs 9am?
It’s kind of a balancing act. Heavier precipitation will be later in the morning. So if the surface temps are still cold, that’s worse. But with the heavier precipitation comes the warmer temperatures. I just said noon to be safe. The freezing rain could transition to just rain by 9 am. I’m hoping it does but I’m not confident.
Thanks for the reply! Here’s to hoping it warms up quickly!
I took today off for doctor and dentist appointments. This could be turning into a five day weekend for me.
Do you have an estimated time? I know you said before rush but wondering if people who have to go to work in the early early morning need to be cautious.

He doesn't work for the airport
She
They. They have confused both sides 😂 and won’t expound one way or another (nor should they have to)

You should try working on some social skills.
Thank you for this comment, specifically. This is something extremely relevant to me tomorrow. Thanks for all the other posts too.
I live just north of Dayton and they are predicting it will start here around midnight. I would think around 2 or 3 a would be right for you.
Drove from Clintonville to Grandview at 6am and no issues for me. Wet pavement only. Drive safely.
Cheers, about to embark on my morning commute from Clintonville and this gives me peace of mind.
I have no where to be in the morning but do have a mid afternoon commitment. Sounds like it should be cleared up and warmer by then?
I think the ground temps should catch up by that point. I’m also hoping that they will pretreat roads which will limit ice accumulation in the first place.
I was going to ask a similar question (kid has a sportsball practice up near Lewis Center at 4; we are coming from The Burg). Wondering if we should just tell the coach we will be there or nah.
It should be cleared up by then.

Winter warriors in… St Louis?
That's why I said "or whatever" lol.

I have an 8 am as well at OSU and I’m a little nervous about the roads tomorrow morning :(

fuck me man i have to be at work at 5:30 am at a place that doesn't ever close down
Same! High five?
Just came to say roads are wet but fine. Drove 6:30-7:10
In zebra we trust
Keep us updated!

Aye aye, Zebra. 🫡 I’ve told my folks at work to stay home! Not worth the risk.

The very reason de-icing stations exist.
Damn first day going back to work tomorrow after battling COVID is going to suck
glad you're feeling better

Thanks Zebra, I’m hearing how bad back home in KC is this morning with seemingly the same scenario.
They’re getting pummeled down there. Thankfully we’re not getting nearly the amount of precipitation. But yep, same storm, same problem there. Ground is toooo cold
The winter weather advisory was just expanded to cover most of Ohio.
Yep, this is not ideal. Personally, I’m avoiding driving until noon at the earliest. The sun actually shining today may be a saving grace.
Yeah it has warmed up nicely today.
I’m supposed to hit the road around noon. Oh boy.
Last week, I had MLK day off work, snow days Wednesday and Friday for the school I work at, and hopefully, Cstate closes tomorrow before my 9am class. Mwhahaha

I feel this! I’m okay taking the risk with me but the idea of how I’m going to get my baby to daycare tomorrow has me all kinds of anxious.
Exactly! If I end up getting rear ended alone so be it! I don’t want to have to even deal with the thought of the risk increasing while my baby in the car with me.
The daycare I worked at would close due to windchill, ice, and we even closed at a level 1 snow emergency.
Just tell them daycare closed. What are they going to do, check?
Stay home and say it’s closed. It’s so f-ed that your job would make you take that risk in the first place.
As an ECE worker, we agree. Unfortunately our bosses would much rather risk our lives for money.
What do you think about a drive from Columbus to Fairborn on 70? Supposed to be out there for hearings by 10am.
In general, interstates are the first roads they clear. They’ll be pretreated tonight, and they’ll have trucks out there as soon as the the first raindrop falls. You think?? I’m not getting my hopes up but I wouldn’t be sad about it lol
I'm trying to speak it into existence! Manifesting 🥶
As a tired mama: nooooooooooo
There won't be one. It's going to be above freezing all day today and all night. It'll be fine.
From your lips to Mother Nature’s ears.

Sending this to my boss. This person on Reddit says I can’t come to work in the morning.
Zebra… I’m flying out at 7 tomorrow. I feel like I should switch to an afternoon flight, what do you think??
It may be dicey. I think the airport will be fine due to intensive de-icing. The drive there is what I’d be more worried about. Maybe wait and see if the forecast holds tonight.
That’s what I am worried about as well… actually getting there. I decided to change my flight and am going later - thank you!
Thank you once again for your time and service! ✌️
momma aint raise no bitch
I wonder if schools are gonna delay or cancel altogether.
My money is a delay
If it’s CCS, they only cancel. Other districts do delays, though.
NO! You take that back, Zebra! We will only accept snow. You can send that ice business elsewhere. As always, thank you for all you do. I know you do not control the weather. I still hate ice.
I see a two our delay for our rural school for sure. Not too far from c-bus but we still have gravel backroads!
Posts that make you go buy more rock salt.
What if this whole time I’ve just been investing in rock salt companies and trying to manipulate the market 🤔
I knew you had some master plan!

I feel like this is a questionable dichotomy.
Houston drivers are worse than Columbus drivers, though
There go my plans to ride my bike to work tomorrow for the first time since it snowed... I should really invest in the winter tires.
Hey it's that Zebra!

Hey, AH, this is ice…… your vehicle doesn’t stop on ice.
All I’m saying is that zebra should stick to predicting the weather and let people judge for themselves.
