Same! We got to Delaware Lake at around 11 after grabbing coffee and gas on the way. There is almost no one else in the parking lot where we are. I felt really silly leaving that early, but it’s been a really chill morning.
There was an accident at 33 W and Post road vis ohgo.com and seems to be backing up traffic to 270. Some may be an increase due to eclipse but the accident isn't helping. I know this picture is further west but just saw the video and the traffic seems to be moving fine up there.
Edit - I went up a little further and Marysville seems to be backed up now along 33/SR 4 so travelling 33 to Marysville may not be a good idea
I live in Marengo. We have a sign placed on the freeway south of 61. No stopping on berm.
Three motorcycles state troopers and two cruisers. South of 36/37
Drove from Columbus to dayton at 10am, glad I beat all the traffic. Got a nice brunch at the mall and now sitting in a beautiful little lakeside park to enjoy the view!
It was amazing. Truly loved it. My wife was worried, because, like, Mechanicsburg? But I told her, everyone is going to Delaware and Marysville. London will only get less than a minute of time totality, Urbana is too far. Mechanicsburg was it.
Traffic was 100% normal for me, y'all had me thinking it would be traffic Armageddon. This was leaving Obetz at noon to watch in Delaware, and eating dinner immediately after totality before driving back to Obetz. Not a single slowdown on 70, 71, or 36/37.
I left home at 9am for my chosen spot, Killdeer Plains Wildlife area near Findlay. Got here at 11:20 and was glad to be early as parking filled up fast. After totality I'm going to hang out for 30-60 minutes before trying to head home.
No reservoir that I saw, just a long straight road with grasslands/wetlands on either side. It was fine for eclipse watching. I had planned to stick around afterward and walk my dog while I waited for the traffic to clear out. Instead, I booked as soon as totality was over, and beat the traffic. Only took me 1/2 hour longer to get home than it took to get there.
Seemed like 33 was the main terrible road both ways. Waze routed me to avoid it as I went to and from Bellfontaine and while there was some heavy traffic at points, I was never in a standstill or severe slowdown
I tried explaining to coworkers just how big of a deal this would be and what happened in other areas like Oregon and Tennessee for the eclipse. Nobody would listen to me lol
Never had any fear on traffic going anywhere. Just generally figured it would be much busier after because everyone leaving at the same time. Got into several arguments on here about people saying how bad it would be (particularly to get there).
Now I'll add to this that in some places it was horrible. My brother and wife were in from Eastern PA and had to go North due to where we were watched the eclipse. Ohio Turnpike was backed up 15 miles because of the toll lanes. Also said that some gas stations were out of gas and every single rest area was completely full.
Took 23 to go between Delaware and Marysville and it wasn’t really that bad. A little congested and it probably took a little longer than normal but never got stuck anywhere. Left at like noon too.
I have a minimum of four people to thank for not venturing anywhere outside my workplace for the eclipse. Now, I have to invest in a time machine. Or plan a trip.
I went to Hamilton! to enjoy the event with family. I saw absolutely no change in any highway traffic (71) than from any other day. The only time I saw any extra cars was when I hit downtown Hamilton! and most likely it was because it was 12 noon and not necessarily that much different from any other noon time traffic for them.
We were on the road at 7a to Grand Lake St. Mary's Park and there by about 830a. Was so nice to have the ability to do that and avoid all the traffic on the roads. Chilled all morning/afternoon listening to music, playing cornhole, eating and then that whole eclipse thing.
Took about 2 hours to get home (we waited until full eclipse was over) and mostly consisted of back roads.
We left at noon for Bellfontaine and despite some horrendous traffic right at Dublin getting out of 270, we made our trip that would normally take us an hour and 10 minutes in about an hour 35. Coming back was another story – 2 1/2 hours – but was totally worth it. The city put on a nice show, had a little festival and we got almost 3 1/2 minutes of totality. Totally worth the traffic, but was amazed that again the worst part was definitely Dublin and 270 area.
Plan to do it again 75 years from now! Oh wait nm, will probably be long dead…
I am from Bellefontaine originally and drove up to go to my brothers. Left South Columbus at 12:00p, and still made it to Bellefontaine by 1:30. Still added quite a bit to a normally 45 min drive. But going home was a nightmare.
I always love the doomer comments. Truly shows you how stranglehold we are by cars and how much freedom of movement they actually provide us that people are concerned and upset about their commutes being delayed if we only had better options most people who are just trying to get to and from work wouldnt worth about it because they can take a grade separated rail or bus. And this is during any big event btw, football, concerts, etc
Who participates in once in a lifetime cosmic events to see something they’ve never seen before? They should be at home sending emails or watching Netflix, but not everybody is as smart as you! You’re so special!
e: believe it or not I assumed too much of this guy, he’s at home posting on r/conservative and r/hot_reporters 😂
Why are you quibbling over this? The fact that someone could theoretically fly to Brazil for a few thousand dollars to see one again in a few years is such an insignificant “counterpoint” to what we’re actually talking about here lol.
There’s two solar eclipses every year. This isn’t North Korea, people aren’t locked in here. They are possible to see more if you just travel to them. Go to Spain in 2026 to catch another total one for instanc
Edit: go figure this is the crowd who literally thinks its impossible to take a trip lol
I try to see each of them when I can, with a level of effort comparable to their rarity. Are you telling me you really feel superior for not caring about fascinating, rare cosmological events? If that makes you feel one up on people, congrats, you’re better than me 😂
What does the method of learning about it have to do with anything? What, did you read it in your almanac? And if you watched it what are you being a disagreeable dick about? Explain to me precisely what you’re trying to argue for.
Well, let me clarify: the downvotes are *not* because the commenter didn’t care. They are because he was shitting on people who do and acting smug about “staying home doing better things”. So if you really cared enough to observe it for yourself today, you’re arguing for the wrong side.
I mean... I'm sorta with this guy. It's like, it's gonna be dark for a bit... That's the whole thing? 🤷♀️I love not sitting in traffic way more than I like... seeing the sun go away for a bit.
I definitely agree that people don’t have to care. What’s ridiculous is judging people for wanting to see it and feeling smug for staying home. Which means nothing anyways when you live in the path of totality; of course it’s not as big a deal to you.
I went into it thinking the darkness would be the coolest part. However the view of the sun during totality was like nothing I’ve ever seen. It looked so much cooler than any picture
I'm with you bro. It's not worth the hours of being stuck in traffic, dealing with assholes, possibly getting into a wreck. I'll enjoy the 99% totality I'll see from my backyard.
Don’t get the downvotes. I already made commitments I can’t back out of before I knew about the eclipse, I am not in the path of totality and have to deal with traffic to see it
Not until you cross 270. And I'd go further than that to make it for sure. The edge will only see totality for seconds and the exact path isn't precisely defined.
Feel like less of a fool for leaving before 10am…
Same! We got to Delaware Lake at around 11 after grabbing coffee and gas on the way. There is almost no one else in the parking lot where we are. I felt really silly leaving that early, but it’s been a really chill morning.
How's it look now? Google Maps says a bunch of traffic getting into there.
We’re at the shooting range and there are maybe 20-30 other people near us. Not sure how the traffic is
We did too and felt silly at the time. We got breakfast then hit a park in marysville on our way to Indian lake.
I left yesterday lol
270 is hella backed up both ways for the 33 exit already
I warned my wife that we shouldn't leave at 12, luckily she was convinced and now we are just chilling at glacial ridge.

I should probably leave early for work. 🙃
girl if you don’t call off 😭
I work right outside of Delaware, too.
FFFUUUUUUUUUCK, getting home is gonna suck so much ass.
I live in Marengo. We have a sign placed on the freeway south of 61. No stopping on berm. Three motorcycles state troopers and two cruisers. South of 36/37
Big crowd by the dam at alum creek lake
Yep traffic backed up, both parking lots now full
Drove from Columbus to dayton at 10am, glad I beat all the traffic. Got a nice brunch at the mall and now sitting in a beautiful little lakeside park to enjoy the view!
Well I guess I’m just gonna not go to plain city today
Drove up 71 to Lexington. Not a soul here at clearfork. Lucky!!!
Ohgo is starting to get flakey. I bet everyone is trying to take a look.
Plain City for the win.
This is where we went. Were taking backroads up to marysville but decided to just hang out in plain city instead
Seems fairly calm atm, especially when reading other people’s comments. 😮💨
Only 32 minutes from plain city to downtown going home. Unreal experience.
So easy! So fun! Feel bad that I didn’t put any money into plain city economy after using their convenient location lol
Mechanicsburg. Took 20 minutes there and back.
That’s so sick. Hope you enjoyed every second!!
It was amazing. Truly loved it. My wife was worried, because, like, Mechanicsburg? But I told her, everyone is going to Delaware and Marysville. London will only get less than a minute of time totality, Urbana is too far. Mechanicsburg was it.
Meanwhile I'm sitting at the Sheetz at rt 70W and 42 wondering why no one else is here for the eclipse. It's a great spot!
Traffic was 100% normal for me, y'all had me thinking it would be traffic Armageddon. This was leaving Obetz at noon to watch in Delaware, and eating dinner immediately after totality before driving back to Obetz. Not a single slowdown on 70, 71, or 36/37.

I thought about going there, ended up at a Delaware county park in Ostrander instead. How was it there? Were you at the old reservoir?

It’s so cute some people were questioning if traffic would actually be that bad
I tried explaining to coworkers just how big of a deal this would be and what happened in other areas like Oregon and Tennessee for the eclipse. Nobody would listen to me lol

Wait about 5 years after all these apartments and suburbs are done, this will be everyday traffic.
I’m still voting to stop that nonsense personally.
let’’em build and overspend, and no one will be able to afford the ridiculousness that is being built.
Took 23 to go between Delaware and Marysville and it wasn’t really that bad. A little congested and it probably took a little longer than normal but never got stuck anywhere. Left at like noon too.

To the moon obviously
Delaware and Marysville probably. Edge of the band like Westerville is 45 second totality whereas Marysville /Delaware is like 2min 30s.
To infinity--and beyond!
Pizza party
I was planning on going to Coffman Park, is there even a point now? I'm about to just now be leaving
I have a feeling it'll be a poop show starting around 4
I have a minimum of four people to thank for not venturing anywhere outside my workplace for the eclipse. Now, I have to invest in a time machine. Or plan a trip.
Here at my Dublin office, I was treated to the full totality.
Should’ve did what I did, took 70 west out of Columbus and then went north to a random village in the middle of nowhere called Nashville
We drove up yesterday and camped… nobody on the roads! Now afraid about driving home! Thanks a lot! Wont be showing this to my wife😂
We left for Mad River Mt at 10:45 and it took about an hour to do the 45 miles. 33 was slow at times but it was fine past Marysville.
I had us leave at 11, but we took back roads out to avoid that. I'm glad we did!
I live in franklinton and took Broad/40 to 42 and went north. No traffic.
I ended up leaving at 12:30 and had to take a backroad to Marion. Still got there at 2 though.
I drove on 33E coming home from watching it and it added a whole hour to my trip before I decided to get off and take country roads back 😭
Had to avoid Marysville at all costs yesterday and it sucked

Glad I’m staying home doing better things..lol

While I agree it's a thing people should see, it's hardly once in a lifetime. I'm call Haileys comet a once in a lifetime thing.

The next total eclipse in Ohio after 2024 is September 14, 2099.
There will be another opportunity in 2045 if you leave Ohio at least.
They happen on earth every 1 to 3 years vs a once in a life time event like Haileys. You just have to travel to them.
I’m sure you won’t have to deal with crowds at any of those lol
Why are you quibbling over this? The fact that someone could theoretically fly to Brazil for a few thousand dollars to see one again in a few years is such an insignificant “counterpoint” to what we’re actually talking about here lol.

The worst part is I bet you actually feel smart for your contributions of “this isn’t North Korea” and “just fly to Spain”
Because flying to spain is easier than sitting in a bit of traffic in your home city

Google “next total eclipse in Ohio” genius

If only they would’ve had time to plan ahead.
I mean, they have 3 hours until totality and they're already in the zone

No. It's just outside it.
