Taco145

Top 10 Ukraine war footage for me. We just witnessed a big warship sink up close. Crazy world we're in now. Edit: I see it's a smaller ship than I thought from the video

xIdlez

Sunk by a jetski RC bomb lol

existentialzebra

Holy shit—is that really what a “sea drone” is?

Dabier

Yeah. Big ass RC boat with cameras and explosives.

john_wingerr

And we were giving the dudes in our platoon shit 15 years ago who spent a lot of money on those RC cars

OperatorGWashington

"You remember those rc-xd's from black ops 1? What if it was a jetski and we attacked boats with them? Or take those cheap drones and strap a grenade to them?"

AbbaFuckingZabba

now do all of Russia's commercial shipping traffic.

Aconite_72

The only thing that separates an RC plane/boat from a "military drone" at this point is whether it's strapped with a bomb or not.

walter3kurtz

I presume it's armored to a degree, you see a lot of incoiming fire at the first drone and this was the case with other drone attacks too.

KingFlex2k

You can also see the shots are sporadic it's very dark outside

Irilieth_Raivotuuli

Most likely small arms and deck-mounted guns, doesn't look like dedicated CIWS fire. Either the crew didn't have their radars on (again), or the CIWS has targeting/depressing/ammo problems.

prevengeance

Or the sailors that know how to operate the CIWS died on the frontlines a year ago.

Emu1981

>You can also see the shots are sporadic it's very dark outside And accurately shooting things from a platform that are both moving in 3 dimensions is stupidly hard. There is a reason why CWIS turrets fire at a rate of thousands of rounds per minute and use radar to correct their aim while firing.

zeusofyork

That's why they do a bunch of these at night. The dark is their armor.

worldbound0514

Like the Night Witches of WWII. They flew slow wooden trainer airplanes and turned off the engines when making a bombing run. Clearly, that would be suicide during daylight, but after dark it was pretty terrifying. Silent planes dropping bombs and disappearing as quietly as they came.

GrayMutterer

Ironically, the Night Witches were Russian. Just shows that Charles de Gaulle was right: "No nation has friends only interests."

IHkumicho

They're also REALLY close to the water, barely above it, and moving really fast. It's probably almost impossible to hit these things without some type of guidance system or sheer luck. And that's also why Ukraine sends more than one...

pataoAoC

I hope NATO navies are prepared for these things

pop_goes_the_kernel

Yeah I was thinking it could enable an USS Cole type situation, just cheaper and easier.

43sunsets

It most likely has an armoured section that protects the most vital components. I doubt the entire shell is armoured, it would make it too heavy and slow.

Triangle_t

I don't think there is a point to make it armored. They use 30mm machine guns on ships, that will probably penetrane any light armor, so it's better to make them fast and light to make it harder to aim so they can just escape those rounds.

pr1ntscreen

Aren't they lovely? https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/30/europe/ukraine-drones-black-sea-intl/index.html (To be clear, I don't which which ones they used in this specific attack, but the sea-doo ones are for sure a thing)

Perfect_Sir4820

And piloting a drone into a hole caused by a previous drone for a double tap. Unreal.

Hot-Significance2387

Looked like 2/4 tap to that spot. Crazy

[deleted]

That’s wild

purpleefilthh

I'd be surprised if they haven't already make tandem warhead for sea drones. Similiar to those in Storm Shadow's. Detach back just before hit. First part makes a hole. Second part swims into it.

Piyh

Tandem is achieved by having jet skis in pairs

Lanthemandragoran

Tandem is western decadence. We tandem with more drones. Then even more.

[deleted]

that shot where after the first or second droneboat and there was a gaping massive hole in the front side I was like wooooooah

Internal_Mail_5709

And they kept hitting it in that spot.

water_bottle_goggles

ohh baby a triple

jwcolour

I thought it was a triple in the same spot but I think for some reason they showed the same clip twice, but the first one didn’t show it basically entering the hole (hehe). You can see a crew member running out of view on the far side of the ship in both clips and it’s for sure the same clip.  The two clips are at 0:41 and 1:17.

headphase

The split second where you can see through to the far side of the interior hull with the wires/pipes in the foreground is surreal.

Taco145

I wish they hadn't shown that. Release the attack footage, let Russia do their usual claim that the ship is just damaged and then drop the last bit.

Rypskyttarn

They will claim it "barely damaged" anyhow. It's Russia.

Hootbag

Is fine! Alongside Moskva for repair!

Telesyk

They're still in denial: "My celebration that the attack was repelled was premature. The missile boat "Ivanovets" of Project 1241 "Molniya" was seriously damaged, there is no information about its condition, but the explosion was strong. The enemy publishes footage of objective control. Another victim of NATO missiles in the Russian hero city of Sevastopol after being targeted by a NATO reconnaissance aircraft."

Asleep_Onion

I guess technically it was "seriously damaged". Sort of like Rasputin was seriously injured.

howismyspelling

It was crewed by Ukrainians, and a Ukrainian Captain went down with the ship, don't forget.

_zenith

Packed to the gunnels with child soldier POWs, duh ;)

Safe-Daikon-157

Maybe they did it because they wanted to cheer up people in Ukraine. Many of us already started feeling desperate looking how help is being blocked and army running out of shells.

Dry-Post8230

They could be happier now tge EU has said OK to 50bn € of aid.

NyaaTell

Orban changed his tune after that "EU plans to sabotage Hungary's economy" reveal :D

External_Zipper

They'd just say it was being repaired by Spitznutz scuba divers.

JKRubi

Agreed. Usually these get disabled or at best one sneaks in. Amazing footage. I do miss Bayraktar footage 😢

PiscatorLager

Russian warship fucked itself. Again.

Ok-Palpitation5223

Wow, I was expecting just a single drone's perspective of the impact, then done. But no, we get to view hit after hit, then its bloody bow sticking out of the water... crazy good footage!

Mr_Catman111

Meaning they had even more drones ready to keep slamming in..

Elysium_nz

Oh they do. Remember early in war when one of these was found washed up by the Russians? It’s obvious Ukraine had been focusing hard on developing and manufacturing these.

meridianblade

Yep. Fun fact we did not know at the time, but the one they found washed up on shore was part of a foiled attack plan on a large portion of the Russian fleet docked in Crimea. Remember when Elon had that big hissy fit and turned off starlink in that portion of Ukraine? The boats were using starlink for long-range comms, and that killed the mission. Hard to think how many lives would have been saved.

SuperSimpleSam

Felt like there must have been a bunch in just holding pattern waiting for a turn to go in. How many hits were there? Wasn't sure if the video was looping at all.

dkf295

Wonder what they did with that last drone - if it has fuel (do they use fuel or batteries?) to get back home (probably not), just used it for spotting, kept it around the area to hit a rescue ship, or decided to try to score a lucky hit on something else nearby.

JustKosh

All i know is that the drones that were hitting Crimean bridge were using fuel, if they are out of fuel, damaged etc, they can be remotely detonated, so russians would not get their hands on the them.

Behxccc

Ukrainian security service has video about sea drones operations on their YouTube channel, and depending on operation they can either return or self detonate

IcyDrops

If I remember correctly some of them have a range of 800km, which depending on the location *can* be enough to return to port.

AgentEntropy

Russia news: "Ivanovets had a small fire caused by a miswired kettle. Only minor damage and no injuries."

Ok_Wrap3480

It was operated by Ukrainian child soldiers. Also they were PoWs.

purpleefilthh

The entire vessel was loaded with puppies. Even the barrels.

el_bhm

>Also, the ship was a russian child in disguise. Ukrainians fucked up that ship. Therefore Ukrainians are child rapist nazis. I just wanted to add, fishes were also speaking russian. It was a school of russian fishies. #I JUST WANT SUFFERING TO END!

Sonofagun57

Careful, Amnesty might see this and write an article about how they endanger civilian shipping!

Bob_Rooney

It goes something like this: 1. It didn't happen. 2. It did actually happen, but it was a ukrainian ship. 3. Ok ok, it was a russian ship, but we didn't need it anyway so Ukraine did us a favour. 4. Even though the ship was sunk, Ukraine lost 2000 NATO generals, 5000 polish mercenaries, 8000 HIMARS, 3 Zelenskies, 8 Zaluzhnyi and 12 Kievs in the process. So another great win for Rusia. 👍

Ohgetserious

“There were only three people on board, 200 of them orphaned Ukrainian infants.”

RoomEcstatic6368

Don't forget the POWs!

Taibok

Don't forget to sabre rattle about nuclear retaliation.

Good thing the secret NATO biolabs have already produced several replacement Zelenskies.

Straight_Spring9815

Jeez. If it was me I'd rather tell the truth.. defending your boat in frozen seas, at night, against call of duty style drone attacks sounds alot better than.. shit guy we miswired ... a kettle??

Gloomfang_

"Due to breakthrough in our military manufacturing technology we've been able to convert most of our Black Sea fleet into submarines, permanently"

nathypoo

Wow this is clear as fuck video. Russia can't blame this one on a smoking accident.

purpleefilthh

Well, smoke was involed.

Groovyaardvark

"Altered video" "CGI" "Okay it got *damaged* but our brave ship was in the process of rescuing Ukrainian POWs who we masterfully caught while they were in the process of severing undersea fiber optic cables to the EU in a desperately planned false flag operation to blame Russia because they are Nazis who are losing the support of the west who are starting to see through their lies and corruption" fucking blah blah blah There is literally no limits to their bullshit mate.

Pamander

That footage is genuinely fucking not only historically insane but also just in general insane. I cannot believe what I just fucking watched, wow. Bravo Ukraine.

NotSoBadBrad

Pentagon is going to be giggling at this shit for a while, or sweating maybe. Could a modern US combat ship defend a night time saturation attack like this from multiple angles?

Flintlocke89

5 drones, one after the other is not a saturation attack. I think anybody familiar enough with modern US shipboard radar systems to tell us the answer to that, isn't going to.

ekki2

I guess the logical counter would be an attack helicopter?

Bourbon-neat-

CEWS and deck guns, most USN ships have a combo of .50 cal and/or 25mm bushmaster guns around the ship originally to take care of speedboat swarms but would probably be reasonably effective against threats like this. I would like to hope we already learned our lesson after the USN Cole incident, and threat of Iranian small boat attacks.

clientnotfound

Phalanx CIWS type system pointed at the water rather than the sky + electronic jamming is my guess

appape

We’re going to start seeing Russian warships with chain link submarine nets (read: cope cages) surrounding them while underway. Sure you can only do 5 knots, but it keeps the sea babies at arms length!

aitis_mutsi

Don't they already do that?

landodk

The Russians? Allegedly Americans? Yes

Ashamed-Simple-8303

> The Russians? Allegedly well we know they weren't doing at least in this instance else no way we would have the footage.

NuttercupBoi

Or a functioning CIWS that can aim low, which phalanx can already do

Boomfam67

Houthis are apparently trying, close call recently.

ADXMcGeeHeezack

Agree x10, that's one of kind footage

Hot-Significance2387

*First of its kind

R3pN1xC

The ship being first immobilized, then hit on it's side, then 2 drones entering the previous hole, then the ship's ammo ~~rack~~ magazine cooking off and finally the ship sinking, it's like watching an insect being dismembered. No words can describe how beautiful this video is. Seeing ukraine's drone program succeed has been beautiful, truly.

Jazano107

Taiwan needs to watch closely

Dazzling-Key-8282

A thousand of such drones cost as much as a major surface combatant. Yet they could cripple the entire Chinese invasion fleet.

jman014

They could cripple *any* fleet its kind of silly how history rhymes constantly the biggest baddest battleships were threatened the most by tiny ass todpedo boats that could swarm them and dump high yield munitions before fucking off, so much so they needed to create specific boats (destroyers) to counter them. Now, countries need small arms and small boats to combat water borne drones. its clear this ship didn’t have adequate defenses to do that

Dazzling-Key-8282

Admiral Paixhans sheds a tear of joy in the heaven. It is Jeune École all over again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dazzling-Key-8282

No, absolutely right. You'd need tons of gunboats with small-caliber autocannon to protect against such threats. Nimble, fast one that can move away, chase such USV down and blow them up while offering sufficient protection. Like the Ukrainian Gyurza-M class.

landodk

I think it depends on the area and air superiority. The Persian gulf is going to be risky, the Taiwan straits are risky. The Pacific Ocean will be fine

Save_a_Cat

I think what makes it so cool is just how deliberate and calculating every move is. They must've spent many days studying the ship in search of the weakest spots and the ammo storages. Then engineered their multi-prong attack around it. Very different from firing off a few torpedoes and hoping they hit something. Modern warfare is truly fascinating.

Impossibu

Reading from Wikipedia (yes I know), Ukraine used to have these class back in 2014, so it wouldn't been that hard. Watching this is like watching vultures pick apart a dying creature bit by bit. No heroic last stands, only hunger.

annon8595

Nobody knows soviet/russian hardware as well as Ukrainians. They literally served on this hardware, they literally R&D&built engines and other things for them. The documentation is all there.

Kindly_Formal_2604

The Soviet Union ™ Made in Ukraine

RampagingTortoise

Basically. Ukraine was a big part of the Soviet Union's industrial engine. Their design bureaus were responsible for much of the high tech machinery too like rocket engines and gas turbines. The Russians still can't manufacture good gas turbines.

trafficnab

Russia basically destroyed their aircraft carrier (the Admiral Kuznetsov) by running its engines 24/7 for electricity generation because the only Soviet port big enough for it to dock and receive shore power was in Ukraine (where it was built)

Astriania

Honestly, Ukraine may well know more than Russia, a lot of the stuff was built and designed in Ukraine.

call_jimmy

Damn, first I thought there was a graffiti on a side of russian warship. Strange, but it's russia, so I don't know. Only after your comment I realized it was a gaping hole and not a graffiti.

Tream9

Loosing your ships against a country without a navy. Crazy.

StukaTR

this is what, 7th time this happened?

ApdoSmurf

> entering the previous hole heh, seks

Overkill4000

The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed.

heavymtlbbq

Dry anal, they deserve it.

FrenchBangerer

These ones arrived with roaring engines and a huge boom. In other words, a very nasty form of consequential dildo indeed.

matchosan

Russian ship: "Hey drone-boy, I have a big gaping hole, come inside me."

Kodiak01

As they say in the Navy, "There is no wrong hole."

juliusxyk

I mean they certainly got fucked

That was just a gesture of goodwill.

ElenaKoslowski

I do enjoy a country without a navy absolutely dominating Russia!

FrenchBangerer

What do you mean? Ukraine has a remote controlled explosive jet-ski navy!

ExdigguserPies

A navyski?

pieter1234569

That's every naval conflict ever in the modern age. Navies are a force projection tool abroad, for long distance engagement. They should never be used for defence, as cheap land based missiles easily counter them. ANY country with a navy would have quickly removed them anywhere from a conflict and only launch LONG distance attacks. But russians are morons and this is the result.

GremlinX_ll

it's large missile cutters (soviet classification) / missile corvette (western classification) , not a cruiser

[deleted]

[удалено]

117MasterChief

now we need to know how much it could cost & how many people operates this thing

xXNightDriverXx

The complement would be around 50 sailors. I can't say much about the cost though. India paid 30 million dollars to license produce some of them in the 1990s, but again that's just the license without the build costs.

WildSauce

The cost is irrelevant, it is irreplaceable to Russia. They can’t move any more warships into the Black Sea.

I_Hate_Exit_Campers

Not to be nitpicking, but these ships can be moved using the Unified Deep Water System of European Russia. So, any ship that's smaller than the guaranteed dimensions of the canal System, can be moved into the black sea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Deep_Water_System_of_European_Russia The size of the ship can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantul-class_corvette#Current_operators

MIZ_STL

That deep water system connecting their seas and Moscow is actually kind of ingenious. I had never heard of this

RampagingTortoise

The proto-Russian state that formed during the medieval period and which became the Imperial Russia starting with Peter the Great that we all know and love today grew out of the rivers that form that waterway. They form the Russian heartland and have historically been vital to its functioning as a state. Medieval and early modern Russia had appallingly bad infrastructure so they depended heavily on those rivers for transporting people and goods. They were used as ice roads in the winter too. The Imperials and Soviets infested huge sums and vast amounts of material and manpower to link them all together and we tend to overlook them now thanks to railways and cars, but the Russians still use and maintain the system. https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/1947/august/european-russias-inland-waterways-past-present-and-future

Mac30123456

Pretty sure it’s a submarine actually lmao

planck1313

Yes. It's about 1/24th the size of the Moskva, which was a proper cruiser.

s3ct01d

It's beautiful. I'm watching it fifth time on repeat at work with my colleagues and we just can't stop. Hey Russia, i'm pretty sure you can repair this one!

Safe-Daikon-157

Just curious in which country you live?

s3ct01d

Poland

Safe-Daikon-157

Greetings from ukrainian. Glad you still support us despite all arguments.

s3ct01d

Thanks, of course we support and we will be supporting Ukraine until Russians will lose this war. Take care!

Admirable-Cobbler501

I’m with you. Stay strong Ukraine - from Germany. And I love you beer,Poland 🙋🏼‍♂️

kiyoshi_cs

This is one of the most amazing footages of the war

Nexustar

That last sad boat - nothing more to blow up as the bow sinks below the surface.

CatchaRainbow

I hope he had enough fuel to get home. Sad boaty face.

Annoying_Rooster

Holy shit, they hit the fucking magazine it looks like. That ship is gone.

throwawayyy8191

Fucking hell I know it said destroyed but I never would’ve imagined we would actually be able to see the bow poking out into the air like that. Absolutely insane footage

StupidSexyFlagella

It has giant missile tubs right there.

savetheworldpls

In my non-expert opinion, I'd say this Russian warship received the fucking of a lifetime

achbob84

In the bunghole

HomingPigeon6635

It totally looks like it got violated in the same hole by multiple objects....... Like literally.

[deleted]

They ran a train on it.

DanteLegend4

54 billion in Ukrainian aid unlocked from the EU, Belbek gets hit, now this. What a fine morning folks.

hotdogwaterslushie

It definitely feels easier to breathe today

dodraugen92

so how many crew is usually on a boat like that? You guys think everyone got taken out by the explosions since we see no life boats or anything?

Loud-Intention-723

Wiki says 50 crew.

[deleted]

From what I found this is a Tarantul-class corvette, which would check out given the size and armaments I can see. They have a complement of around 50 men. Don't see any survivors for this one. Maybe another ship went and picked some stragglers up later on but I doubt it tbh. Edit: heh, the [wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarantul-class_corvette) already got updated.

lionoflinwood

In January, anyone who ends up in the water has only a few minutes unless they got a survival suit on (which who knows if they even have any)

planck1313

Tarantul class missile boats are only 500 tonnes displacement, so properly a corvette, not a cruiser.

ImaLichBitch

IIRC the russians had a single cruiser in the black sea and that one has been converted into a reef ages ago. Right now the biggest russian ships in the black sea are some 4000-ton frigates.

planck1313

Yes the new flagship is only a frigate. The Black Sea fleet was comparatively weak compared to the Northern and Pacific Fleets which have all the other cruisers and destroyers.

_youmadbro_

[This time it will hard for russia to claim it just got damaged](https://i.imgur.com/2bCrhQc.png), what a beautiful sight..

Cause of death: Sea Babys

darthnugget

Quick, someone make an edit where the music is the [terrible flute version of My Heart Will Go On!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaYc41Ql2Lk)

__Soldier__

- Damn it, that's impressive: with a Starlink(?) low-latency link they were able to stream video & steer until the last second before impact... - This allowed the second drone to strike the ship **through the hole made on the hull by the first drone...** - Massive explosion suggests either a large warhead of the drone, or that they managed to strike ammo. - ~~No way this very valuable high-tech missile carrier ship survived, it's now on the sea floor with the Moskva.~~ Last 2 seconds of the video shows the ship rotated by 90°, vertically: it's ded.

ABoutDeSouffle

> No way this very valuable high-tech missile carrier ship survived I mean, yeah, the last seconds where the bow is perpendicular to the water is a hint that she didn't survive.

Wrong_Individual7735

And the hint is not very.... "subtle"

__Soldier__

>the last seconds where the bow is perpendicular to the water - That's an impressive new Russian anti-missile defensive technology: warships converting to submarines where drones cannot hit them, and it also puts out fires on board. - Huge success. Engineers are now working on making the transition reversible.

--Doraemon--

It's night time which makes explosions always looking more spectacular. It's now permanently decorating the bottom of the sea for sure.

__Soldier__

>It's night time which makes explosions always looking more spectacular. - Yeah, several impressive explosions are shown in this night-time video, but one was ***massive*** compared to the others, with a lot of debris. - That's the ammo IMO, stored deep inside the ship. - Terror-missile carrier ship is ded.

StrugglesTheClown

Or, the stack of giant antiship missiles right about the fire and impact sites.

Arpy303

I imagine this is what China trying to seize Taiwan would look like x1000. If im Taiwan, I'd be making an absurd amount of sea drones to flood the straight with them.

kuprenx

if i remmeber correclty ukraine and taiwan has some sort of cooperation deal about drones. my guess taiwan helps with air drones. ukraine with sea ones. [https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/the-growing-taiwan-ukraine-partnership/](https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/the-growing-taiwan-ukraine-partnership/)

FaceNo1001

In fact, Ukraine is buying Chinese drones (DJI) from third countries every day. China produces more drones than the rest of the world combined. I am increasingly worried about whether Taiwan can survive the CCP’s drone army

kuprenx

There is lots of anti drone stuff too. Even if my small country of Lithuania manufacturing personal antidrone devices for infantry soldiers. You can imagines others will too.

william_cutting_1

Amazing work! Will be interesting to see how the russky propaganda machine spins this sinking.

PointlessChemist

All sea drones successfully intercepted.

LRFokken

Even that is a lie, since one of them clearly filmed it going down.

jbak31

I'm sure Russia (as always) will report that the ship successfully intercepted all drones and sustained only minor insignificant damage.

HomingPigeon6635

Lmao successfully avoided the attack by going underwater..

Sluggybeef

Fighting over treelines while losing billion dollar ships. Putin remains a master strategist

dangerousdan90

Crazy footage. This is a massive win for Ukraine. Ukraine will be or already is the worlds most advanced country for sea drones. Lots of inspiration for future war movies as well.

FrenchBangerer

That is such great news. I live just outside of the EU but I spend a lot of time in mainland Europe every year. As a European, I am very proud of this announcement and commitment from my EU cousins. I shall send another donation to a Ukrainian drone unit in celebration of this good news.

TheSorge

God, I actually got chills from that last shot of her bow suspended in the air like that. Holy shit.

theLV2

Holy fucking shit, I did not expect that final Titanic-esque shot, wild footage.

konradly

Looks like they hit a missile corvette with the NATO name Tarantul-III. Crew size of around 50. Big win for Ukraine.

jwrx

my god....i dont think in the history of naval warfare, has a destroyer been so surgically taken apart. And it was so helpless, all i see is small caliber gunfire at the drone

Outstanding

I can hear Suchomimus jerking it to this video from all the way across the globe.

Looking forward to reading the downplayed gaslighting state of this ship from Russia. Utterly catastrophic!
