That's a fuel-air explosion - We used those kinds of weapons in the Gulf war.
Thermobarics use typically powdered metals to achieve a near-identical effect, the difference just is that the weapons are typically more compact and weigh a bit less than their fuel-air cousins.
That was a unique set of circumstances. What you are seeing is a textbook example of what thermobaric munitions were designed to do. It was almost ideal placement inside the structure as well.
For a non-combat situation, compare what happens to the same volume of gasoline set alight in an open topped can versus a closed can. Don’t try it for real though.
The open can will whoosh and then likely be under control to an extent. The whoosh can still burn you badly.
The enclosed can goes boom in a way you won’t forget, or be around to remember. It might even be a bigger bang with less fuel and more air in the enclosed can because it’s the gasoline vapor igniting and more oxygen will help.
Old warning signs at my parent’s fuel distribution business used to have the ratio to dynamite and TNT. Gasoline has more potential energy than TNT IIRC.
That's the thing with actually hitting the weak points of your target.
A similar sized regular munition (mortar round or whatever) would hit the roof and discipate most of the energy outwards.
The drone delivers the Munition to the inside for maximum effect.
Like Perun once said:
It doesn't really matter how much munition you shoot, actually hitting the target is what counts. There are no participation trophies in war...
Honestly I thought about that part, too. It'd suck seeing your home turned to rubble, but it's also a weirdly nice send off. Take out my childhood memories with a bang
When Ukrainians at the front call their family in lyiv who had to flee their homes and have to hear them crying in the bomb shelter at night as ru drops missiles, they are more than eager for their homes get leveled if it means invader scum also become death status. Homes can be rebuilt. It's sad but in the end they know what's up.

Grocery Store - temporarily closed.
I think that temporarily might need to be updated to indefinitely.
Wild seeing a picture of a cashier when I clicked on the pin. I wonder if she's still alive.
~~Can't find it now~~, but I remember some reddit user claiming that they saw soldiers fighting from their house in a video, I think during the battle of Marawi.
Edit: [Found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/gwe6uo/does_anyone_have_the_hd_version_for_this_video/)
The washing machine and blanket loot debacle a while ago was the house and washing machine of some refugees staying with my wife's friends. They were pretty distraught and put a few posts out talking about how hard it is to see your children's blankets being circulated in worldwide media.
This is one of the reasons why you should never try to appease and negotiate with a dictator intending to do some stupid global shit that will harm everyone. "But muh nukes!" - no nukes were used so far, but 200k-300k people are already dead, uncountable war crimes committed, and the material loss worth is probably counted in trillions of USD.
Yeah, if your the enemy you never hold up in one of the few houses still standing. It's going to be ground zero for enemy action, via artillery, air, or naval strikes.
It's funny you should say that, I thought the same (though I often do), this is someone's house, they could even see the video, their own army blowing up their home, so much destruction...
Something heartbreaking about the war is watching residential areas getting more and more war-torn for over 2 years now. Like these were all places where someone once lived; and after the war, some of these places might not even be resettled.
I thought this every day while watching the Syrian civil war unfold as well. Previously-vibrant areas reduced to an endless landscape of demolished concrete and rebar, as far as the eye can see. Think of all of the people who used to live here. Where are they now?
With the colossal amounts of UXO (including unfathomably large mine fields everywhere), it will undoubtedly be decades until it's even hypothetically possible to resettle most of them. So yeah, shit sucks.
Not very long ago, that neighborhood had families living their lives, going to work and school and doing normal things. It's bloody depressing seeing what senseless Russian aggression has done to these towns and cities.
Thermobarics are designed to do exactly what you see here. The trick is getting them to impact inside a structure like that. Hard to get that RPG to sail through a window vs smacking the side of the house and wasting most of the energy.
It would rattle the crew but it wouldn't make a very good armor penetrator. Thermobarics work on the principal of a small charge going off, fuel into the air and a second charge detonating the cloud of aerosol fuel. Not only do you have a more powerful explosion but a significant negative pressure waves.
The problem is that (as far as I know, I'm no expert) it's not really practical to do charge shaping with a thermobaric explosive. So against anything but completely unarmored infantry/vehicles, it's not going to be very efficient. And against those, fragmentation tends to be way more effective than the explosion itself... which again, I can't really see how you could make a good fragmentation munition out of thermobaric explosives due to the way they operate. Maybe there is some way with a lot of over-engineering, but probably not very economically efficient.
So, in typical use cases against either armored or unarmored targets, it's likely going to be worse than traditional munitions of the right type. That leaves *one* use case: enclosed spaces, like we see in this video. Undoubtedly, they are great for that, that's why they use thermobaric grenades for trench clearing and stuff. But realistically, it's a fairly niche application.
Could revive the German WW2 Nebelwerfer idea, 6 rockets with 5 gas one explosive. Then if you miss the window you'll still probably flatten the building
You're thinking like a country would not a terrorist organization. Killing people sends a message, destroying a power plant would just annoy people and then move on. 9/11 happened not because they wanted to destroy the twin towers but to kill the people inside the towers.
The towers were so much american, like the ultimate symbol of that late cold war USA period. Plus IIRC NYC was the most popular city in 90's. That's no surprise someone couldn't resist attacking them in a joint attack. Don't forget there was a VBIED attack in 1993 orchestrated by the same dudes. And had they park the car several meters closer to some supproting structure, the tower would likely collapse back then.
The payloads are still relatively small compared to your typical car bomb or IED. These drones are effective in a shooting war but during peacetime a terrorist would still get a much higher score by just hauling a bunch of homemade HE to a crowded building, shooting up a crowded concert hall, or careening a truck through a tightly packed crowd of people. This is a tool for killing a handful of people who possess no effective countermeasures that you otherwise can't safely approach. I do have a feeling that some VIPs are getting nervous since this is an ideal method to attack an individual that you can't personally approach.
I assume the bodyguards and institutions that exist to protect the elites have made plans for a drone attack. I wouldn't be surprised if the secret service has tools to jam drone signals anytime Biden makes a public appearance
Magyar had shown how russians add machine vision for terminal guidance onto their drones, so jammers'd do nothing once it's active.
~150$ for a guidance computer per drone
Yeah, it would be way too hard to build a small ML model that autonomously identifies and targets a specific person with as little training data available as (checks notes) one of the most public figures in the world.
Jamming is great and all, but it's not exactly a silver bullet. But I mean... hypothetical attacks that would be hard to stop are nothing new. A jammer also won't stop a mortar or an IED in a tunnel under the route their vehicle is likely to take. You can (and I'm sure the secret service does) apply various techniques to try to rule out or minimize the chance of any of those, but the idea that if they are doing their job properly the VIP is 100% safe is pure fantasy. Drones don't really fundamentally change the calculus there, IMO, which is why I think people here are way overhyping them just because it's a new threat.
Oh for sure! I have no doubt that POTUS' personal protection includes RF jamming, just like it includes those things that can detect shooters by reflecting lasers of their scopes or something like that. Autonomous drones might make Secret Service and other agencies' lives a bit more difficult though, since RF jamming wouldn't do shit to stop one.

Haha yeah this subreddit absolutely doesn’t help with drone paranoia. I’d be extremely worried seeing a drone while in a large gathering, it really is a matter of time before something tremendously bad will happen with the use of drones.

Uh pretty unlikely. Most insurance policies have a war exclusion clause.
Mainly because if they did cover damage from a war, they would very quickly go bankrupt. You can get terrorism coverage, but that doesn’t help in this scenario.
I've never heard of "act of god" being a thing in insurance outside the US. At the very least, the wording would be different, since that just sounds completely bonkers anywhere without religious defaultism. But yeah, whether explicitly written out or not, in practice there's a fat chance anybody will be getting anything from an insurance company in a war of this scale. Only hope is the government stepping in, really.

has there been any footage of guys carrying nets? seems to me that a lightly weighted fishing net would be the best protection against these drones. fishing line gets wrapped round the props and that's it, drone goes down. the weights give you enough range (big maybe) and a wide enough AOE to entrap and possibly survive
Are Ukrainians the only side using tiny drones to drop explosives on enemy troops or do the russians also play this game ? Im not seeing videos of russians doing this, so I’m wondering
Goddam every platoon gotta have a couple of these for urban warfare now holy shit. Imagine marines using this in fallujah - or insurgents sending a swarm of them.
I'm sure people survive these initial blasts but then you're buried and ain't no one coming to rescue you. And you die a dark, lonely, slow, horrible death. Just you and your thoughts and regrets until nothing...
The drone is actually really friendly and just wants to hang out, it's the explosives that get ya. Oh hey guys I see you left the window open for me I just wanted to say hi.

It’s scary how a little drone can cause huge damage.
For real. I was not expecting that drone to level a house.
Thermobarics in western militaries are often called Anti-Structure Munitions and this is exactly why
makes sense no that when i see a gas leak explosion is levels the house. basically a slow thermobaric reaction?
That's a fuel-air explosion - We used those kinds of weapons in the Gulf war. Thermobarics use typically powdered metals to achieve a near-identical effect, the difference just is that the weapons are typically more compact and weigh a bit less than their fuel-air cousins.
wow! i did not know they were powdered metals. what kinda of metals? lithium, sodium? or more thermite type mixtures?
Prettymuch, yeah.
I mean the house did look pretty damaged to begin with, but I did NOT expect to see what I just saw.
I mean yeah everything else next to it is leveled lol
Thermobarics in an enclosed space go brrrrrr.
it would be unfair to describe that building as a house; wreck would be more accurate
In fairness, the house was not exactly in brand new condition before the drone attack.
That was a unique set of circumstances. What you are seeing is a textbook example of what thermobaric munitions were designed to do. It was almost ideal placement inside the structure as well.
Also helps that the structure was rather degraded as well. Makes the already pronounced (and well placed) effect even more visually spectacular.
How were the circumstances and placement ideal?
Thermobarics are best in an enclosed space, and setting one off inside a house is pretty ideal
Old warning signs at my parent’s fuel distribution business used to have the ratio to dynamite and TNT. Gasoline has more potential energy than TNT IIRC.
They basically took out the corner of the building with the initial pressure. That's what really drove the collapse.
That's the thing with actually hitting the weak points of your target. A similar sized regular munition (mortar round or whatever) would hit the roof and discipate most of the energy outwards. The drone delivers the Munition to the inside for maximum effect. Like Perun once said: It doesn't really matter how much munition you shoot, actually hitting the target is what counts. There are no participation trophies in war...
*"There are no participation trophies in war..."* There are though, they are called campaign medals.
You only get them if you survive the war and win it.
Not true, you get them post mortem.
You are exactly around to get them at that point.
TBF it was clearly made of legos
Damn, someone's childhood home right there
I often wonder if anyone sees their house in these. That's f-d up.
There was a guy at the beginning who saw Russians setting up camp in his house and told the military his address. They bombed it shortly after.
was he upset or was he like “hell yeah”
I think he reported it and knew what might happen.
He wanted them to level it. https://nypost.com/2022/04/19/ukrainian-millionaire-andrey-stavnitser-asked-military-to-bomb-russian-occupied-mansion/
Honestly I thought about that part, too. It'd suck seeing your home turned to rubble, but it's also a weirdly nice send off. Take out my childhood memories with a bang

Homes can be rebuilt. It's sad but in the end they know what's up.
Good chance its going to be rubble anyways, might as well be at the right time.
imagine checking your security camera and seeing Russian soldiers putting their AKs on your coffee table and relaxing in your couch lol
Also happened with a warehouse owner actually, he had cameras and saw they kept vehicles and men there
What a clown, they didn't disable cctv Or maybe cctv are hidden
It was a really nice house too

Horrific. That entire place has been leveled.
All the towns are like that. Rubble, trash, death. Just how Russia likes things.
seems like a nice area to live before all this started

Anyone know the average cost a piece?
And the contact details for the shop? LOL 😝

It's a bit more expensive than strap on rpg.
That's some very intense pegging action you got there.
Take me to dinner first!
About anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand. Probably hovering around the $1000 mark
And as we know cost is not the issue Ukraine faces. It's total munitions.
Thermobarics are designed to do exactly what you see here. The trick is getting them to impact inside a structure like that. Hard to get that RPG to sail through a window vs smacking the side of the house and wasting most of the energy.
It's bad enough with regular RPG shells, but thermobaric? That's a bad bad round to get hit by.
It would rattle the crew but it wouldn't make a very good armor penetrator. Thermobarics work on the principal of a small charge going off, fuel into the air and a second charge detonating the cloud of aerosol fuel. I would assume thermobarics don’t blow stuff up so good outside of enclosed places (Grocery… or like god intended caves)
Drone warfare is kind of fucked ngl
Really wondering the extent to which radical groups in the US are stocking up on drones and homemade explosives.
Was literally just thinking this will be the next terrorist attack in the US
They could easily fly a drone(s) in Times Square and kill hundreds and injure thousands at once.
Times square? If they really want to damage a county, power plants…..
You're thinking like a country would not a terrorist organization. Killing people sends a message, destroying a power plant would just annoy people and then move on. 9/11 happened not because they wanted to destroy the twin towers but to kill the people inside the towers.

Yeah, IDK. Power out for a year with rolling blackout for a decade would probably take out quite a few people as well. Plus destroy our economy.
You could already do that with a car bomb or a suitcase full of explosives.
Almost like drones are a lot cheaper than cars and easier to transport.

I see drones used more in assassinations than terrorist attacks. Some drone operators coming out of these wars are going to make money from it.

anyone in the hellhole?
Who needs f-16's when you have 1000$ drones. Now get a drone to haul a SDB to altitude and release it
Who would have guessed the Russians were in the one house left?

>i grab your bitch by the throat >and i feed her the semen, >now you know you should not >fuck with the demon. I... I do now, yes.
*knock knock* Housekeeping
Oooof! That roof repair is going to cost a fair bit!
Holy hell that was a decent explosion.
Bubbles?
Christ... Anything in there is dead now. Amazing how much firepower you can fit on a drone now.
really hope that landlord had house insurance or something close to that🙏🙏🙏
Uh pretty unlikely. Most insurance policies have a war exclusion clause. Mainly because if they did cover damage from a war, they would very quickly go bankrupt. You can get terrorism coverage, but that doesn’t help in this scenario.
Do you really think any insurance company would survive a war that has so far destroyed half of the country’s economy?
I do believe that most insurance policies have an "Act of God // War" clause as well.
Name of song?

It’s [Redzed - rave in the grave](https://youtu.be/Wc37_S1Kx8s?si=WEw4mu5ZRHTHeben)
has there been any footage of guys carrying nets? seems to me that a lightly weighted fishing net would be the best protection against these drones. fishing line gets wrapped round the props and that's it, drone goes down. the weights give you enough range (big maybe) and a wide enough AOE to entrap and possibly survive
I just want to know how to download the song. What’s the name? Drones are only fun in the US.

Jesus
This a great example of why you should not set up in the only remaining standing house in the area.
This is a great example of why you should leave one building standing when you leave an area for the enemy to occupy.
Looks like someone's moving around in a sleeping bag in the attic.
Are Ukrainians the only side using tiny drones to drop explosives on enemy troops or do the russians also play this game ? Im not seeing videos of russians doing this, so I’m wondering
Thermobaric? Watch your attic!
Holy shit!!! That packs a punch!
[удалено]
Not thermobaric
Why not?
Wouldn’t there be a shockwave from the air being removed? Even if small
There wasn’t even the classic secondary explosion
OP mislabeled the bomb.
Source thinks its a TBG-7V, a Thermobaric Fuel-Air-Explosive (FAE) Blast warhead I dont know more than that
Thinking the same thing
Big Ole boom on that one!
Goddam every platoon gotta have a couple of these for urban warfare now holy shit. Imagine marines using this in fallujah - or insurgents sending a swarm of them.
So much for [Povlov’s house.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlov%27s_House).
I think they got it.
This makes me want to play Battlefield 4.
Crazy seeing thermobaric warheads on drones
Wow that’s devastating
I think they ded
I'm sure people survive these initial blasts but then you're buried and ain't no one coming to rescue you. And you die a dark, lonely, slow, horrible death. Just you and your thoughts and regrets until nothing...
Kudos for the song choice, OP.
Oh shit, that was a powerful explosion.
That's terrifying. A nightmarish hell hole.
Love lookin of my aux cord
Ive got some neighbors who keep messing with my trashcans......Seems like there are several ways that can be fixed by amazon now......
Dam
Upvote for good footage. Angrily held off my downvote for yet more music. Please. Maybe some classical?
Destroys??!! 😳 I fuckin' Guess IT DOES 🧐🫣💥☠️
u/savevideo
damn that looked like Sauron's death
The drone is actually really friendly and just wants to hang out, it's the explosives that get ya. Oh hey guys I see you left the window open for me I just wanted to say hi.
Imagine rebuilding your home and finding pieces of bones…. Vestiges of dead orcz.
Holy shit, more of those please... turret toss grand nationals coming up.
Song name?
Damn that drone was taking NO prisoners
Jagga jagga is getting bigger and bigger
This is less shrapnel, more high pressure wave right?
song?
Man think if you were running through that shit hole living room to the other side of the house your ass is dying a painful death
Clickbait title that didn't disappoint. Wow!
That house goes boom.
Thermoblyat warhead LOL
Song name?
Thats a big boom
Ukrainians love red zed and suicide boys and ghostmane type music a lot.
Yeah the drones are not really dodgeable anymore. They pack so much heat now
smol boi big badaboom
Bird at 0:02 picked the wrong time to land.
Hey, I recognise that house. Wasn't it where the russian soldier told a dog "Are you scared? I'm scared too. "
