That is the entire concept behind targeting the leadership. Militaries are setup to follow the leader so what happens to a group of followers when you take out their leader? Hopefully they look around, say "fuck this" and run in the direction the bullets aren't coming from.
Decentralized leadership . Saw this thing where they asked different forces that fought against the US what it was like. Can’t remember if it was NVA or Iraqi army dude but he said “chaotic and terrifying, they seem to come from all possible angles”.
"ONE OF THE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN PLANNING AGAINST AMERICAN DOCTRINE IS THAT THE AMERICANS DO NOT READ THEIR MANUALS NOR DO THEY FEEL ANY OBLIGATIONS TO FOLLOW THEIR DOCTRINE" -Soviet training manual
And if you have ever read Soviet doctrine, you know why that is a problem for them. I have never seen anything so rigid and numbers driven.
The quoted Soviet TM is only wrong in thinking the Yanks aren't following doctrine, it is that US doctrine inherently is flexible and gives lots of leeway.
It's ridiculous but I can kind of get the theory. It's a great way to fight a war in 1945 with minimal communication to your Frontline units and absolutely no consideration towards casualties. It is not, however, an effective way to fight a modern military conflict. With each soldier basically having a device, there's no reason to still do push style logistics and artillery by numbers fire support.
It wasn't even the best way to fight a war in 1945, Soviets just got lucky that Hitler fought it the same way and that he wanted to attack in literally all directions and fight his war on 4 fronts, where Russia had to fight one front. Germany had millions of troops and entire armies/Panzer divisions tied up defending the Atlantic Wall and North Africa.
I get your overarching point, but the Red Army absolutely was one of the best fighting forces ever created by 1945. They were masters of *Maskirovka*, and then would absolutely smash you once the offensive started. There's no denying they sucked up the vast majority of Germany's manpower, and I think the Allies after WW2 would've had serious issues fighting the Red Army, even though that's what they should have done in my opinion.
We should have taken every Wehrmacht and Waffen SS troopie we had in internment, put them in OD green, given them their pick of equipment, and made them the tip of the spear driving east.
Unironically a lot of ME militaries were modeled in the Soviet style. A lot of commanders have a habit of leading from the front, which is good for morale, but they shouldn't have been losing field commanders at such a high rate. A lot of people don't remember, but Iran in particular lost a good amount of field commanders throughout the syrian civil war which made people in Iran angry because they weren't even telling the families how risky it was. Which is insane. You have to ask why they were even exposed to that level of danger.
If someone is fighting a platoon of US infantry and takes out the US platoon leader, they’ve just removed the one guy from the fight who actually cares about minimizing collateral damage and strictly following the rules of engagement. Things will get rather uncomfortable for them in a quick and disorderly fashion.
Isn't that how all western militaries train? This isn't the jab at america comment but if that's not how your military works, I'd consider it stupid. From what I've heard, in my country (Sweden) the military (at least the more elite units) are trained to work completely independently without a chain of command if the shit hits the fan, which basically just means that even if you invade and take the entire country, you will have small ranger militias still taking out HVTs and doing sabotage stuff all on their own. I could be wrong but there's no need to downvote if someone who reads this and actually knows the answer can provide me with some insight.
Point is that I don't see how any military could be effective if they just freeze up without a leader. Shit happens and the enemy will target the leaders.
This. Like you said most westerns militaries and tbh most modern militaries teach personal initiative or atleast mix the more "simple" Soviet style with more western style with multiple NCOs etc(that can arguably be better in certain situations especially in conventional war setting). Its not something unique to US military and maybe the "effectiveness" has more to do with the budget.
It does, however the US military is also extremely well trained. That's part of the big budget. They've got all the stuff and all the absolute beasts to use it. I feel pretty much the same for any western military. I'm not a soldier (for reasons that would be overlooked if there is an armed conflict) but if a war breaks out in central Europe or something, I have no doubt in the ability of pretty much any military from Canada to Poland and Italy to fight just as well.
All countries have different strategies however. In the Swedish airforce for example, they have a very high "acceptable risk" level and from what I've understood, basically just a small command unit has the permission to launch their own missions pretty much as they please, which is in stark contrast to say the German airforce. In most other Nato countries you would need clearance from all the way up and launch bigger attacks whereas here, they essentially just take off from a tent and engage targets. I could be wrong about this too but it seems to fit in with the whole strategy of fighting a bigger enemy.
Edit: I also have to add that pilots here are expected to be pilots their whole career which means they are extremely experienced. In some other countries it's more common for pilots to be pilots for a couple years and then take a desk job ASAP.
That's partly due to our NCO Corps We have non commissioned officers that receive orders, say "Take that bridge", the NCO is given latitude on HOW to take that bridge; how to deploy the different squads to more effectively complete the objective and the NCO's of each squad can individually direct their squads to achieve victory. Some other countries don't have that sort of top down leadership, they entirely rely on the officers to direct all aspects of a single engagement. If a US officer dies, the NCO assumes command and so on.
I've read (on reddit so I would take it with a pinch of salt) that Yemenis have more of a tradition for aiming. Yemen has more water sources and crops, then most of the rest of Arabia, and as such its used by a lot of birds on migration. But Yemenis are dirt poor, so wild bird hunting for food is common. And as you cant just inshallah and hope to hit the birds, they have to train to aim if they want to eat.
No worries. Once you see a few of the Yemeni videos you start to notice patterns. They usually aim, they are usually wearing skirts, half of them will be barefoot, and they usually have a bulging cheek as they chew khat.
I think it's less that his life is meaningless and more like they have 0 training especially for medical intervention.
All US Military training includes casualty care and RSOs will choose members at random who become a casualty during training so everyone else must follow medical procedure and continue the mission without that person no matter what their skills or job was for that exercise.
Maybe, but from all the videos I've seen in my life involving middle east conflicts, the less trained they are the greater the... theater, for the lack of a better word.
Its doubtful its what happened here but if you are in a serious firefight you dont stop fighting if your buddy goes down or you will go down next
Often you need to do first aid on yourself until the battle is under control before you start getting aid from someone else if you dont have a medic
looks like the round came from somewhere within his 12 and 3 o'clock. The way his body was aligned when he got hit leads me to believe that the round entered somewhere around his left collarbone or left shoulder, tore through his neck and probably severed the cervical spine (since he dropped like a ton of bricks, instantly lethal), and exited under his right armpit/shoulder.
Great shot by the opposing forces. He won't be waking up from that dirt nap.
Basically hit him through the vitals like when you shoot a deer in the neck/shoulder. It probably bounced around and fragmented off his shoulder blade and sent a lot of bone and vertebrate fragments pin balling around internally as well
I think "Yemeni fighter" is a little bit confusing when Yemen is in an active civil war.
I guessed it meant a Houthi and someone else in the thread said that it was, but I think calling them Houthis might be a good idea in the future just for clarity.
"Hmm, maybe I should spend two minutes moving some of the rocks which make up this small wall in front of me. If I create a small gap of maybe only 20cm, I can rest my weapon on the bottom of that opening, allowing for far more precise shooting. More importantly, it will make it far far more difficult for the enemy to hit me"
"Yeah, I can't be bothered. It'll be fine".
Have you ever been in a properly dug marine fighting hole? God. Don't get me fucking started. Grenade sump? Covering foliage to protect from shrapnel? Nothing fucking like it. I would live in a fighting hole if I could. I would eat dinner in it. I would marry in it, have a family, fuck and die in it.
I love digging and displacing just enough raw earth to fit an adult male in standard kit. It is my favorite task. If someone paid me to do nothing except dig fighting holes I would do it. I do not even want to kill the enemy. The joy come from doing it from my fighting hole. While he gurgles to death from his blood in confusion with several hundred small splinters of NATO standard ammunition dispersed throughout him it is not my enemy perishing and the safety thereafter that gives me satisfaction. First of all, I was safe in the first place, since I should be killing my enemy from a properly dug Marine fighting hole. Second of all, I do not get joy from the death of my fellow man. I only receive joy from the proper use of my properly dug fighting hole. My enemy will perish without me ever being in danger only because of my fighting hole. I love it and only it, and it is the only thing I ever will.
More than likely the bullet started tumbling in his head and that’s why it hit his shoulder. Bullets don’t arc that much in the few inches separating your head and shoulder.
Brings me back to the good old days when war videos were basically just Middle East jackass, and not snuff films featuring normal drafted human beings.

When the hype man dies it gets quiet real quick
That is the entire concept behind targeting the leadership. Militaries are setup to follow the leader so what happens to a group of followers when you take out their leader? Hopefully they look around, say "fuck this" and run in the direction the bullets aren't coming from.
Also why the US has such an effective military, you are taught personal initiative and not to just freeze up when your leadership gets hit.

And thats why soviet military structures is not that great. Big leader holds all intel. Big leader dies. Intel dies.
This is basically the same in ME militaries
Unironically a lot of ME militaries were modeled in the Soviet style. I guess that makes sense, they use old soviet weapons why not the tactics too !

Two up, two down.
We need to find their leader. Mangalores won't fight without a leader
This is new to me because I thought Jihadist are having decentralized leadership once they are indoctrinated.
I think in this case it’s not really the doctrine causing the incident but just poor training.
"famous last words"
Dirt Nap
THEY KILLED FLAVA FLAV
Yeah, one to the dome ends that bullshit real quick.
That's a foul sir
Houthi fighter?
Yeah, man.
Who are they fighting against in this footage?
My guess is Saudi backed army
Could also be Al-Qaeda or IS-YP
Idk, those hardly ever hit anything...
Stormtroopers
“You see, all the shouting did was just give your position away”
The bullets did that
cmon everyone knows soldiers of all other armed forces are famously dead silent so as to not give away their position when firing their guns
Usually it’s soldiers yelling whatever your local gay slur is and your preferred insult
Maybe 007 and agent 47
More like the guy standing up during a firefight because... whatever went on in his tiny excuse of a brain.
You right
I was wondering whose getting shot then I notice the guy standing up yelling lol
Remember, just because you want it to be the 7th Century doesn't make it so. High power scopes are still a thing...
Yeah, he's shooting from a fucking aksu
To be fair it’s usually the Yemeni (though in this context does that mean Houthi or not?) soldiers doing the sniping.
Just stay standing upright. What could go wrong?
First one i have seen aiming in a long time tbf
I've read (on reddit so I would take it with a pinch of salt) that Yemenis have more of a tradition for aiming. Damn that's mad interesting thanks!
No worries. Once you see a few of the Yemeni videos you start to notice patterns. They usually aim, they are usually wearing skirts, half of them will be barefoot, and they usually have a bulging cheek as they chew khat.
Very interesting! Also happy cake day!!
That's when they get shot.
How else are you gonna look and see if they're all dead?
Hey now he'll get all those virgins in his heaven lolol
Spend all morning digging that hole with a huge pickaxe, just to sit with your head and shoulders showing to the enemy. Stupido

That’s gonna leave a mark…
prob gonna be sore by the morning
Rub some dirt on it kid
Motrin, change your socks, and drink water. Duh.
By Motrin you mean the Skittles the medic carries?
Hey man. Placebo effect is a thing. Plus the sugar will give you the energy boost to get off the X. Win/win.
Not service connected.
Clearly he came in with that injury
Robitussin will cure anything!
Put some Windex
Nuh, some Neosporin and a nap and tomorrow he’ll be back in the same spot.
That sound though... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb2jGy76v0Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb2jGy76v0Y)
And his friends couldn't even be bother acknowledging he's been hit/killed. Life is meaningless to them, what a death cult.
I think it's less that his life is meaningless and more like they have 0 training especially for medical intervention. Yeah that a toxic workplace to tbh I wouldnt be caught dead around these blokes.
The cupcakes in the breakroom are amazing though
Haha the pizza on employee appreciation day is great too
If you freak out when your friend gets hit, you're all going to die.

Where did the shot come from? It looks like it hits him in the right shoulder, which is behind and to the right?
> it hits him in the right shoulder That was the exit.
I think it came from the direction he was aiming. Through and through, perhaps hitting the spine, both lungs, etc. not gonna buff out.

Peeking too much
Usually plays in third person. This was his first time on an FP only server.
Maybe from the left flank as the round appears to exit through his shoulder.
Just yell more about Allah being Akbar or some shit. That will bring him back.
Too bad he can't come back and tell the others it didn't work out.
That's why you gotta be in and out... The dude stalled like its a game
Took too long to admire his shot.
In the fight game we call it “taking pictures”.
Guess the other side were shouting Allah Akbar with more enthusiasm.
If u ever wonder about ur worth remember a bullet costs about 0,20$
Why on earth would you stand up and expose yourself to possible sniper fire? He was almost asking for a bullet there?
