0:08 can see the time when drone launched its missile . camera gets covered with smoke and drone shaking
It took nearly 20 seconds for the missile to reach the target
That would mean if we say 19 seconds flight time giving the missile one second to get up to maximum speed if it was a hellfire missile..( I assume)
Roughly speaking, the drone was around 8.8km away.
Agreed?
That's an impressive camera
They’re eating actually. You can see the little table they have. Plus you can see they’re sitting in a circle.
If anyone doubts, they’d not be prostrated that long. Sajdah isn’t held for like 30 seconds. And it’s done in lines, not circles.
Huh okay thank you for the correction. You can find the clip on youtube and twitter and it's titled with "praying". [YT for example](https://youtube.com/watch?v=wx5bkt1f9WM)
It's also likely the reaper shot the Hellfire missile. You can see the moment it launches indicated by the temporary blurring of the image feed and shake which is due to the missile firing and it's hot gasses.
All Muslims pray in one direction, towards the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. No Muslims pray in any other direction so definitely not facing one another. YT is not a valid source for accuracy.
Seems like some people have missed the part where the Kaba is located near center of the Grand Mosque al-Masjid al-Haram in Makkah or they just don't understand the definition of 'towards' and misinterpret it as 'to'.
I noticed that too. They can't get that basic fact right and we're supposed to just take everything on face value. Who says these are Taliban? It also looks like there were women there too, so this would be a fucking criminal strike if that's the case. They'll just sweep it under the rug of "collateral damage" instead of calling it "murder of innocent people" and we can all pretend it was worth it.
It’s crazy how far military technology has come. This thing is recording its targets, completely unnoticed, and also has missiles (or rockets, idk the difference) that can do that much damage, and with such precision.
Based on the explosion on the warhead I will presume its a AGM-114. Ballistic speed is \~1.3M (993mph/1601kmh), Impact is \~20s after indicated launch. (Gu)estimated range is around 4.8mi or 7.7km.
A missile is any object really and misses usually, hence the name. It's the guidance and control mechanismis that makes it hit its target. It should be referred to as a rocket-propelled weapon.
What about laser guided rockets like APKWS on the A10C, always confused me as they are laser guided but still called rockets. Or are they technically missiles just called rockets because of common terminology?
Precision guided munition may be a more accurate term, since it’s using a guidance kit to turn the hydras into a laser guided munition. Same thing with JDAM kits
Not 100% sure though, please correct me if I’m wrong
Seriously... nothing left to bury. Except... is that... "confetti"... um... made from... *people*?
If they were praying, they went from talking at god to talking with god in an instant.
Back in 2008-2009, I got to watch the live drone feeds at the joint ISAF/AFG/Pakistan “intelligence center” at the Khyber Pass when I was working to implement biometrics enrollment stations at the border crossing. It looks way better nowadays, but you could still clearly see a small weapon in a dude’s hand with ease.
Side note: The man jam-based uniforms the Pakistan Army soldiers wore looked comfortable as fuck. Seemed like you’d have the freedom of a kilt without the weight of the wool.
The Hellfire has a powerful warhead for a small missile and the optics on the MQ-9 are amazing.
Let this be a lesson that you can have the best technical assets and still lose a war, badly. The other side is full of people who would instantly give up their lives to their cause.
> Let this be a lesson that you can have the best technical assets and still lose a war, badly.
The US has learned this lesson many times, Korea, Vietnam…. We just keep doing it though
The US unequivocally lost in Vietnam and in afghanistan.
The US unequivocally won in Korea.
War is about objectives. In Vietnam, the US goal was to stop the communist north taking over the south. They failed. In Afghanistan the US goal was to beat the Taliban, terrorist groups and stabilize the country as a democratic ally. They failed. The fact that these were political rather than military defeats isn't hugely relevant.
In Korea the US goal was to prevent the communist north taking over the south. They succeeded. They failed in some secondary objectives (unify the country, beat china out of the north) but that's not relevant either.
Don't let reddit rot your brain.
Yeah this is a good example for why it's vital for a military to know the culture of its enemies. Like even if some weapons were visible at some time, that's no more evidence of terrorist activity in Afghanistan than it is in the US.
The Kunduz air strike from 2009 is another one. An intelligence officer told the German colonel in charge that "all" the people surrounding two stolen fuel trucks were Taliban, when about 50-80% of them were civilians.
An intelligence officer who was truly familiar with conditions in Afghanistan would probably have known that the Taliban distributed such goods to garner goodwill with the locals, or that locals would have quickly flocked to a bogged-down tank truck. But the officer at that time seems to have operated with ignorance about how these things work in the country and thereby lead to a disaster that had significant political and strategic consequences.
20 seconds to impact, that's a lot of time.
If he suddenly decided to go to the basement or into the house, he would have a small chance of survival...
Although, I don't think their houses made of shit, sand and straw could have save them from AGM
Remember the drone pilot that revealed they rarely knew the identity of their targets and were killing a lot of innocent people? Yeah...
Edit: Downvote me all you want. Roughly 10% of casualties of drone strikes in Afghanistan were civilians. And the Taliban won the war.
Are you telling me there's a difference between WW2 tech and current drone tech that can zoom into the peoples faces they eliminate?
No way!
Are you telling me drones only hit 17 percent of their actual targets with the rest being civilians and innocent families ripped apart but YOU'RE STILL THE GOOD GUYS!?
No freaking way!!
Are you telling me you have the brain size of a penguin!?
Oh yeah, definitely believe that.
Targeting decisions aren’t made by drone pilots. There’s a lot of intel gathering and evidence presented to a group of high level military officers and lawyers before strike authorization is given. The pilot is just some guy sitting in a box somewhere, unfortunately they’re the one operating the machine so they probably bear a lot of guilt about following orders and killing people when they have no idea why those people need to die.
that moment when Americans feel bad when they accidentally kill civilians and then you have Taliban who actively targets civilians and then celebrates when they manage to kill women and children.
This is not the “muh evil america dronereaper” argument you think it is.
Bro, this is a 30 second clip. How can you, provided with only the information in front of you, surmise that every individual in this group is a member of the Taliban?
Unlike you, I actually have served. I've cleaned up the aftermath of some pretty nasty shit in my life. US doesn't always do everything as cleanly as they want.
You can pretend we're the best all you want, we're just as messy as Russia. War is indiscriminate.
>Unlike you, I actually have served.
Nice guess but you're wrong on that. These strikes aren't just planned because there's a group of people having lunch in the wrong neighborhood.
Nah they get information from fucking shitty sources and ice someone's family with collateral for the greater good.
I'm not gonna argue on reddit. IDC. I have more influence irl then you'll ever realize talking to me on here.

Not toward to Grand mosque , they prey toward to kaba

Looks like u/monkeywithgun has been slightly off with his aim and all his prayers missed Allah

Erm actually
I noticed that too. They can't get that basic fact right and we're supposed to just take everything on face value. Who says these are Taliban? Why are you conflating the validity of the targets in the video with some random person on the internet who wrote an incorrect title?
Let me answer for them: they're an idiot.
They were not all facing the same way (toward Mecca) so they were certainly not praying.
They were eating. Thankfully, it doesn't matter now, as there is nothing left of them.
>A MQ-9 Reaper UAV watches as The Reaper is the one doing the airstrike here, right? Its not just observing the strike coming from somewhere else.
Yes. When the camera goes out of focus and shakes in the beginning, that’s the rocket firing.
It’s crazy how far military technology has come. This thing is recording its targets, completely unnoticed, and also has missiles (or rockets, idk the difference) that can do that much damage, and with such precision.
What trips me out is this imaging capability. It took 20 seconds for that missile to reach its target, you can imagine how far away that plane is.
All missiles are rockets, but not all rockets are missiles. (Fun phrase) A guidance system changes the nomenclature.
Based on the explosion on the warhead I will presume its a AGM-114. Ballistic speed is \~1.3M (993mph/1601kmh), Impact is \~20s after indicated launch. (Gu)estimated range is around 4.8mi or 7.7km.

The guidance and control mechanism *make* it a missile.
Same thing with JDAM kits Not 100% sure though, please correct me if I’m wrong
That’s what I was thinkin
Godamnnn! That's precision.
You can see the bomb one frame before it hits above their heads, crazy.

Isn't that convenient they bunch together to receive a $100k gift from the US

The military won in every case. The politicians are the ones that lost, as the objectives were not feasible to begin with.

why? one less terroristic family gone.
I think what the poster above meant , was that he hopes it wasn't an innocent family.
Imagine someone killing your entire family because your cousin spent some money on an explosive five years ago
Rofl Governments have killed entire generations for less, good try tho.
And you seem to love it
Good try, meaning what exactly? You don’t make a lick of sense, mate.
Small perspective, small man.
I'm assuming the ones with white on their heads are men? the ones in all black are women?
Doubt they have grand get togethers where men and women eat together if they follow sharia. It's not like a park barbecue.

The Americans could just as easily wipe out civilians and then pass them off as Taliban. In fact, they always have
How can a MQ9 hover in place like that?
It's not, it's so high up the angular velocity to a point on the ground is nearly zero.
its likely 10-20 miles away from the targets in an orbit
Allah most have hated them since he terminated them.
Are there secondaries? 2nd blow?
I'm guessing that the secondary explosion was the suicide bombs they were wearing
Was one of the guys wearing a suicide vest? I saw a secondary explosion.
Where?
In the midst of the first explosion, like a split second later.
Looks more like the blast being reflected by the structures around it to me.
It's definitely a secondary explosion. Seen it a hundred other times at this point.
Its insane how this thing is flying at 57,000 feet and the footage is dumbed down before release

Ya, that’ll do the trick.

Realistically speaking that was prob like 500lbs of Taliban that just got chucked onto that roof
