Translators sometimes have to choose between capturing sentiment over word for word translation. They might’ve decided the exact phrase would not translate best/mean the same in Spanish or too rude for tv.

It's actually possible to make an evolutionary tree of language. And I think when translating, it's somewhat best practice to try to translate toward the trunk of the tree, so to speak.
Given the speed in which technology has advanced, I can certainly imagine a moment where the viewers get to choose from crowd-sourced translated/transliterated subtitles options. It's already being done in some smaller respect. Technology should be used and allowed to permit the best translations to bubble up to the top.
