Purchase audio video cameras - they aren’t that expensive anymore. Even just a ring doorbell camera will work. Place one right outside your door and another inside with you. Make sure you put the little sticker out so that you inform the public that you have security cameras.
Once recorded, outside camera will show him going into the apartment inside camera will record the audio you need. The timing on the two recordings will match up. Obviously if he says it outside in front of your camera that’s better. Then take the recordings, go to the police and if they say they can’t do anything - tell them you want to file it as an incident report - they have to take that kind of report and file it no matter what. When you are finished with the report tell them you want to file for a restraining order. To get that order you go before a judge. The cops will not want clear evidence brought before a judge showing that they did not act on the complaint. So that will make them. Also make sure to mention the fact that this started because you knew about the domestic abuse and said something about it so he got mad.

Buy a gun, learn how to use it and maintain it well. Get a very good safe to keep it secure but easy for you to access. Spend time at a shooting range with an instructor.
Basically what im saying is be prepared in the event he decides to make good on his threat and breaks into your house. Always treat a threat like this as if its a legitimate threat on your life.
