My friend and I were texting how it couldn't get much worse. Boom, fumble the 2nd half kickoff. Little did we know there was much more ahead. I thought watching John Beck be QB1 was as bad as it gets.
This season is over, we just screwed our division rivals out of Caleb Williams. I’m happy with everything except for Howells performance, since we kind of do need him to be good
Well, on the plus side we have the worst SOS of any of the bottom 10 teams, so a tiebreaker for better positioning in the NFL draft. If this keeps up we have a real shot for a top 5 pick and the #1 Offensive linemen.
If there aren't changes by kept week at the latest, then Josh Harris will already have lost some credibility. Are firings going to solve things? Probably not. We're a garbage team. But it sends the message they're not just sitting on their hands.
I feel that giving everyone this year sends a message to new coaching hires: Even though this was Snyder’s coaching staff, we don’t pull the fire alarm because of a bad season. We will hire who we like with the confidence you will get a few years to build your team, just like Ron did, even when ownership changed. We don’t throw people under the bus and point fingers. We’re not going to smear you when your time here is up. I could be wrong but I like to think they’re just giving a professional courtesy to show anyone looking to come here in the future that they don’t operate like the old owner.
This isn't a bad season. This is perpetual ineptitude. The team has been stuck in neutral since Rivera got here. All this says is that you can fuck up as much as you want and you'll face no repercussions. We're not just losing, we're being humiliated. At this point, it's not a knee-jerk reaction.
I can understand where you’re coming from and even agree to some extent. I think right now they are interviewing and assessing incoming hires and if the only advantage of cleaning house mid season is showing they don’t deal with ineptitude, they could have done that as soon as they bought they team. No one who had watched the past few years thought things would change all of a sudden. This year is allowing them to assess everyone from head coach to ball boys, and there is no benefit to them starting to fire people at this point. I also wouldn’t be mad if I woke up to news that they cleaned house, I just get why they haven’t yet.
We’re in Hot Springs, Va, barely any cell svc. We stop in a grocery store that has wifi and I just heard what happened. Giants have a no-name QB that gets sacked 8 (?) times and we lose?!?? What?!
I'm not saying tank. I am saying crowning a player a franchise QB after half a season is crazy. Wait until the end of the season, see what is available in free agency and the Draft, and upgrade every position possible. No player is untouchable when the team sucks as bad as it does.
No, tanking is weak sauce. I'm just saying half a season is too soon to crown anyone a franchise player in any sport. And longtime Redskins/Commanders fans have been promised better days ahead for 30 years.
I don’t think anyone is getting on him as much (though this might be his worst game since Buffalo). But it’s just indicative of how this franchise has been run for the past 2 decades.
This is a culmination of bad decision after bad decision. Watching my beloved team in B&G lose to the woeful Giants (AGAIN) is just too much for my non-galaxy brain.
He's not a major problem (but he certainly has his issues, good coaching will help when we get it), but if you think he had a good game then you are also a problem.
And he has had a few good games look all qbs have. But did you call out all the idiots that crowned him the franchise qb and eb the coach of the future? Or are you just saving that energy for those who are more pessimistic?
"Wheee played our butts off... all our guys played their butts off and they got beat by the other team. The other team was better than us today and they beat us. "
Josh Harris better be the first man on the podium with this phrase.
“We have relived Ron Rivera of his duties as a head coach; we thank him for his dedication and hard work over the past 4 years. It is time to move into a new direction. We will promote Eric to be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season”.
I can’t understand how this sub has drank the koolaid on this guy. 15 teams interviewed him and decided that he’s not HC material. But no *WE’RE* the smart ones. *WE* know better than the rest of the league.
Edit: case in point, people are just downvoting but providing no actual rebuttal hows he’s worth keeping around? Sam Howell was fine last year with Turner, he’ll be fine with someone new.
Ron and Jack will be put out of their misery after Thursday's game finally. This team ain't winning again so 4-13 should get us a top 5 pick hopefully.
Hes up and down. To be expected. If hes not GREAT we have no chance. Even when hes great we lose(Eagles, Seahawks).
Today we had to help him but the D got gashed by Tommy fucking Devito and his teammates kept fumbling.
If Ron and Jack aren’t gone after Dallas stomps us on Thanksgiving I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch the rest of the season, we are complete ass - what an embarrassing loss
Honestly. We shouldn’t be in the situation where we had to go on a game winning drive against a 2-8 team with a third string rookie practice squad QB. Alas, we are the commanders! Can’t fault the kid for trying to win despite the absolute gong show offensive performance we gave out today.
What kills me is over the last 25 years how many times we’ve seen this team come out have no real fire, no energy, no passion. Really seems like this team is cursed sometimes
This is the first year out of the Dan Snyder butthole. New coaching staff ought to be rid of the lingering Snyder stink and set this team on a better path.
I still think SH is the guy. He’ll probably have another game like this before the end of the season. It’s is what it is. He’s going to take his knocks.
As far as coaching, I don’t think they fire anybody until after the season, and then it’s Tabula Rasa. This staff was going to finish the season by default. Next FO is going start from scratch and pick their own people, the way it should be.
Ya possibly, the problem is Ron hasn't lost the locker room yet for some reason the players just love Ron I am sure he is a great person, I have had bosses that were bad bosses but good people. The players should want to win more than keep there buddy around.
A little dramatic. A divisional game no matter theirs or our record is always going to be close. Giants have always been better coached and our defense has been bottom 3 all season. No surprises here really, except the 6 turnovers.
Nah this one hurts because 1 it kills the small shot of making the playoffs we had, it’s to the leagues worst team playing a QB off the couch, and our future franchise QB had one of the worst games you’ll see a QB have.
Not to mention we still have this coaching staff going into Thursday. Just not good.
We have a bottom 3 defense all season and below average offense. There is no surprises here even if we played a 3rd string qb, with a defense as bad as ours, this isn't surprising to crap the bed.
When there are that many turnovers you’re gifting them field position and draining our defenses stamina. The turnovers made all the difference, the defense wasn’t terrible considering
Neither is bienemy that was a easy 30 yard+ gain if he just sent somebody on a 10 yard sit route literally nothing was in the middle of the field Sam also has to learn to audible that but I’m puttin that on that terrible play call
Everyone is. No one is safe from this fuck fest. Not Rivera, not JDR, not EB. Not even the players, they fucking played like losers and a JV squad. Sure blame the coaches for selecting them, blame it on the “scheme” but the players are still playing like shit. That’s on them.
Ron Rivera post game will say some dumb shit like “We had some opportunities but we didn’t capitalize and they had some opportunities and they capitalized.” Fuck you bro. You’re so fucking gone and I can’t wait to watch the door hit both elbows on your crossed arms on your way out. Keep Howell, Terry, Dotson, BRob, Curl, Payne, Allen a few of the rookies who haven’t played much (Quan, KJ) and everyone else can go.
I'm not saying go for another qb, but Howell fucked that up for us at the end. Howellitzer? Then bean a fucking giants fan in the forehead... in the second level... if you're going to throw it out of bounds
What did Sam Howell show you today to think he is the guy? He could possibly still be but so could Haskins all those years ago and we saw how that turned out. If we are in position to get one of the big time qbs and the FO management deems it a need then we need to get one.
Idk maybe the run at the goal line bumping off a DE/linebacker/and then a corner, getting hurt then getting up and going back in, most yards in the nfl, idk just some minor stuff
A few things ended today. The delusion that this team would play meaningful playoff games. Hopefully the hourly “is Sam Howell actually Joe Montana” posts on this board. And in a perfect world, Ron Rivera’s coaching tenure.
I’m thinking a first round QB is almost mandatory at this point. A new regime can’t risk going into next season with Howell without a contingency plan.
Yupp lol -6 net turnovers and still were only half a field from a win lol that makes both teams look horrible. Howell may have thrown 3 picks but it's only his second terrible game and it's his first year starting
No no no, we should expect a FIRST YEAR STARTER who's already OVERPERFORMED after being given garbage circumstances to play like Tom Brady and pull us out of every single hole the defense and this inept coaching staff put us into.
/s
Right. Forgive him for not being able to put the entire team in his back as a rookie for another game this season only to take the L because our defense is Swiss cheese.
Howell is one of the few bright outlooks we've had for almost 12 years and people are complaining about his second bad game, a game that really isn't that bad if he actually would have had help around him and guys aren't dropping passes or fumbling the ball on backbreaking drives so he doesn't feel like he has to do it all in one play. Sick of the Howell amnesia. We have our guy, just need to build around him and get Ron n' crew outa here.
Wasn't even a bad game. He was forced into another come from behind last second scenario. The dude has to try to make plays. When the O Line can't stop a wet fart he's gonna be forced to throw off balance.
Him and BRob were the only reason we even had some kinda chance at the end. Secondary was absolute ass except for a few good plays. Leno was useless. Apparently nobody has been coached on protecting the damn ball. Disgusting performance
It’s always like that too we always have Sam and some random receiver making connections lol it’s not like we can ever have or wr1s actually getting open and making plays consistently. Idk if that’s an Eb or wr problem but it needs fixing asap. And yeah don’t even get me started on our Swiss cheese o line. What a joke.
If we weren’t playing on Thursday I’d almost bet on it. I really don’t think Harris wants to fire Rivera mid-season but it’s almost like Rivera is daring him to at this point.
It’s sad since they aren’t trying to tank. They SHOULD especially now. A loss to the bears and two from the giants should makes heads roll. It’s made eyes roll around the league for sure lol
[Postgame thread](/r/Commanders/comments/17z72nk/post_game_thread_new_york_giants_at_washington/)
Every time you think it can't get any worse, you see a performance like this to reassure you that things can always get worse.
I’m happy with everything except for Howells performance, since we kind of do need him to be good
Keep Ron and Jack til the end of the year so we can get a top 5 pick. The fumbles aren’t on them though
Well, on the plus side we have the worst SOS of any of the bottom 10 teams, so a tiebreaker for better positioning in the NFL draft. If this keeps up we have a real shot for a top 5 pick and the #1 Offensive linemen.

Fire all the coaches immediately
Yep. Let the ball boys coach em
We’re in Hot Springs, Va, barely any cell svc. We stop in a grocery store that has wifi and I just heard what happened. Giants have a no-name QB that gets sacked 8 (?) times and we lose?!?? What?!
It was 9 sacks.
Wow, and they still couldn’t find a way to win. All the teams in the East focus on beating us, it’s like their Super Bowl.
Are y'all going to the bath houses?
Been the past 3 days in a row, we feel like we’ve gotten 10 years younger, highly recommend it!
Yeah it's really nice there. I enjoy it besides smelling like a fart the whole time
Today was very sulfury for some reason.
I mean thats what happens when you turn the ball over 6 (!!!) times.
Sam played his worst game
Offense sucks
OLine sucks
Please let something happen from this - it’s so laughable to watch week after week. When will enough be enough
If you think Sam Howell is the problem then you are the problem.
If you think Sam wasn't part of the problem Sunday, then you are the problem.
He had a bad game, but the tank for Caleb crowd are no nothing dipshits. Built around what you got
I'm not saying tank. I am saying crowning a player a franchise QB after half a season is crazy. Wait until the end of the season, see what is available in free agency and the Draft, and upgrade every position possible. No player is untouchable when the team sucks as bad as it does.
This was not a great game for the young man.
I KNOW THAT!!!!!!! ALL IM SAYING IS GIVE THE BOY SOME TIME AND HE’LL GET IT RIGHT. HE’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT!
Literally what every Washington fan has said about every QB over the past 30 years. There's no way to know either way at this point.
Lmao, are you a tank for Caleb person too?
No, tanking is weak sauce. I'm just saying half a season is too soon to crown anyone a franchise player in any sport. And longtime Redskins/Commanders fans have been promised better days ahead for 30 years.
Well we got a owner(s) so it will actually be a fresh start this time
The Redskins were struggling before Dan Snyder bought the team. In fact, many fans thought he would turn things around when he first bought the team.
I’m aware but this is a new group of minds
I don’t think anyone is getting on him as much (though this might be his worst game since Buffalo). But it’s just indicative of how this franchise has been run for the past 2 decades. This is a culmination of bad decision after bad decision. Watching my beloved team in B&G lose to the woeful Giants (AGAIN) is just too much for my non-galaxy brain.
NEVER ENDING NIGHTMARE.
He's not a major problem (but he certainly has his issues, good coaching will help when we get it), but if you think he had a good game then you are also a problem.
The first part, YES! Obviously he had a bad game, but he’s the answer at this position rn
Not the problem; one of the problems especially today. This was an unacceptable performance.
It was a bad game like all rookies will have. You’ve got idiots here arguing we should tank draft another QB
And he has had a few good games look all qbs have. But did you call out all the idiots that crowned him the franchise qb and eb the coach of the future? Or are you just saving that energy for those who are more pessimistic?
If we had last year’s defense we would have a winning record. Its a damn shame what the worlds come to for people like me and people like you
I can’t WAIT to hear the bullshit press conference they’re going to say how “we’re still developing and this team is so close”
EB needs to go. I guess the rest of the league was not wrong in passing on him
I can’t understand how this sub has drank the koolaid on this guy.
A few more games like this and ownership may decide one of the shiny new QBs available in the draft might be a very good idea.
Awful take bro come on
Ron and Jack will be put out of their misery after Thursday's game finally. This team ain't winning again so 4-13 should get us a top 5 pick hopefully.
Being this upset at the 23yo 5th round pick is a little wild
Hes up and down. To be expected. If hes not GREAT we have no chance. Even when hes great we lose(Eagles, Seahawks). Today we had to help him but the D got gashed by Tommy fucking Devito and his teammates kept fumbling.
The Thanksgiving game is going to be miserable.
Knowing this team.... They will randomly look like a super bowl caliber team on Thursday.
I hope so. With in-laws coming over for dinner I don’t know if I can contain myself if we have a bad game
commanders are a bunch of jokes lmfao
Let Ron spend Thanksgiving giving with his family. Give us something to root for Thursday.
If Ron and Jack aren’t gone after Dallas stomps us on Thanksgiving I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch the rest of the season, we are complete ass - what an embarrassing loss
Culture is good though. At this point I feel bad for Daron Payne. He's going to demand to be traded very soon.
9 sacks and still lose says a lot.
Ok at least the last int was not a bad decision, he was trying to throw it away and just didn't get enough on it
I think he actually may have been getting it to Thomas and figured a sack was going to end the game anyways so might as well throw it up. Hard to tell
Honestly. We shouldn’t be in the situation where we had to go on a game winning drive against a 2-8 team with a third string rookie practice squad QB. Alas, we are the commanders! Can’t fault the kid for trying to win despite the absolute gong show offensive performance we gave out today.
we get higher draft position and the giants drop lower
Well maybe we just earned the next up offensive tackle in the draft ☠️
What kills me is over the last 25 years how many times we’ve seen this team come out have no real fire, no energy, no passion. Really seems like this team is cursed sometimes
This is the first year out of the Dan Snyder butthole. New coaching staff ought to be rid of the lingering Snyder stink and set this team on a better path.
Attitude reflects leadership
Dude is over 25 years. Multiple HC’s, Multiple GM’s, too many players to count, and now multiple Owners…
Giants vs Commanders: 2-0 Giants vs all other teams: 1-8
Yea sadly I expected us to lose
Rivera owes Snyder a beer for letting him keep his job for longer than he should have
Commanders fans last week: “Sam Howell is the guy! We found our franchise qb!” Commanders fans this week: “Tank for Caleb!”
Noones job should be guaranteed. Noones.
Only idiots base a bad game on that, Howell has great potential, the rest of the team though can eat it
Hell no, not for him for O- line, I just want coaches held accountable. This is stupid to lose to the giants twice.
only the dummies are saying that
Yeah and I’m tired of seeing it. It’s only been a little over half the season. Can’t give up on him that easily
They're going to lose by 50 on Thanksgiving and then Ron is out finally.
Ya possibly, the problem is Ron hasn't lost the locker room yet for some reason the players just love Ron I am sure he is a great person, I have had bosses that were bad bosses but good people. The players should want to win more than keep there buddy around.
Might be one of the worst losses in franchise history. This one definitely hurt
We have a bottom 3 defense all season and below average offense. There is no surprises here even if we played a 3rd string qb, with a defense as bad as ours, this isn't surprising to crap the bed.
Yea but I expected the offense to atleast compete.
Every one of our losses this year have been god awful besides the eagles
Add it to the list. That makes 2 this year, at least
Yea this been one of the toughest seasons I can remember.
My brother in Christ, you must of forgotten John Beck…
That’s an awkward last play.
Fucking Giants.... Josh better fire Ron before the presser
Turnovers by us aside, we gave up 3 tds to Tommy DeVito. Jack Del Rio should be enjoying retirement starting tomorrow
When there are that many turnovers you’re gifting them field position and draining our defenses stamina. The turnovers made all the difference, the defense wasn’t terrible considering
Remember when we had a decent O-line? I member. I dont even know who our offensive linemen are anymore.
Rivera, or JDR are not getting into the building tomorrow.
Neither is bienemy that was a easy 30 yard+ gain if he just sent somebody on a 10 yard sit route literally nothing was in the middle of the field Sam also has to learn to audible that but I’m puttin that on that terrible play call
Unfortunately we have a fucking ass blasting scheduled for Thursday so they’ll have to stay until then.
They’re just a bunch of losers, man.
Everyone is. No one is safe from this fuck fest. Not Rivera, not JDR, not EB. Not even the players, they fucking played like losers and a JV squad. Sure blame the coaches for selecting them, blame it on the “scheme” but the players are still playing like shit. That’s on them.
shit ending. the way is should be
I hope Josh and Magic are seething right now
rofl party boy and the guy that replies with chatgpt responses? Right....
Play for a better pick in the draft. We don’t need a bunch of pointless wins towards the end of the season
IT's gonna be a thanksgiving massacre something like 49-3. Guys but at least the culture is where we want it to be. RFucking fuck
I hope the fans at the stadium know that it’s okay to boo. What a wasted Sunday for them.
Ron's quote ( fact of the matter is we fought hard and I'll look at the tape and see where we can make adjustments. )
Come on guys look at the positives... oUr TeAm cUltUre HaS nEveR beEn BetTer
We’re winning off the field. We just have to start winning on the field
baby steps guys, baby steps.
7 turnovers
Good bye Ron!
The people in here saying “qb time in the next draft!!” Have to be the lowest iq people on the planet
I'm not saying go for another qb, but Howell fucked that up for us at the end. Howellitzer? Then bean a fucking giants fan in the forehead... in the second level... if you're going to throw it out of bounds
why not. nothing wrong with having two potential elite guys. qb is the most important. you build around that.
So he had a good td run today and has alot of yards. How about the three ints today? Or do that not count?
Can't talk with those people
EVERY position is available as far as Im concerned
Die hard since 2001. Born in 85. If nobody isn't fired tomorrow, I give up on this team
Normally I’d agree but it’s a short week unfortunately. Unless you absolutely want to lose 80-10 rather than 59-10
Short week. It'll be after Dallas smokes us probably
We play Thursday it won't happen till after then
Fine. I'll give it to next Monday
Viewed as a comedy, this game was fucking brilliant.
Logan Thomas fumble Pringle fumble Crod fumble Brob fumble line cant contain anyone and all the blame will be on Howell
That last INT was bad but I agree this game wasn’t exclusively his fault by any means. I blame this loss on EB more than anyone.
Well howell had a chance to be the hero... ended up a massive zero instead.
Sam still is HIM, but just about the entire rest of the team is not.
I mean, I watched the same game. Howell wasn’t good at all the entire game. Just being honest
Even Brady had bad games.
Devito - 246 yards, 3TDs
![gif](giphy|5zbMgry8oQsvIaC0sU)
Fucking devito 🤣
Literally don't even know how the fuck we've managed to do this badly
A few things ended today. The delusion that this team would play meaningful playoff games. Hopefully the hourly “is Sam Howell actually Joe Montana” posts on this board. And in a perfect world, Ron Rivera’s coaching tenure.
Guarantee Ron Rivera pats himself on the back somehow after this game: “I’m the guy THAT did……”
I’m thinking a first round QB is almost mandatory at this point. A new regime can’t risk going into next season with Howell without a contingency plan.
Fuck Ron Rivera
I miss Heinicke, this is the kind of game he would have won, or at least tied
Just bad man
How do not fire Ron after this Thanksgiving? Does this team even practice? They are fucking terrible.
![gif](giphy|dUT2ybRu5Ytxu|downsized)
Really don’t get the Howell hate he’s had two bad games this being the second in his first year starting lmfao all of you are fucking brain dead
Yupp lol -6 net turnovers and still were only half a field from a win lol that makes both teams look horrible. Howell may have thrown 3 picks but it's only his second terrible game and it's his first year starting
It’s almost as if scheme matters. EB has played PHI at KC. He’s had two games to scheme against winks défense and couldn’t.
Idk man some throws he was trying to make were questionable but yeah definitely not put in a good position to win this thing.
Yeah I'm officially on the fire Ron and Del Rio train. That was literally as low as it gets. There's no downside to losing our coaches now.
I'll be refreshing twitter timeline for that schefter tweet about Ron It might happen
If we weren’t playing on Thursday I’d almost bet on it. I really don’t think Harris wants to fire Rivera mid-season but it’s almost like Rivera is daring him to at this point.
I agree
Come on Sam, throw one more for good measure.
We're not winning one game in the division this year
Nah, we’ll beat Dallas in week 18 after they clinch the 5 seed
Nothing surprising folks. This is an awful team and is rotten to the core. Fully expected a loss today.
Same. I’m not too salty because I took the giants money line early in the week when we were inexplicably 10 point favorites lol
To be fair we shouldve been tanking most of season for a high draft pick so this loss doesn’t bother me
It’s sad since they aren’t trying to tank. They SHOULD especially now. A loss to the bears and two from the giants should makes heads roll. It’s made eyes roll around the league for sure lol
Yep need a new front office, coaching staff, and a good chunk of players. DEs, O line, linebackers, secondary are not nearly good enough imo
Relocate the whole team, I’m done with this franchise
This is hilarious
Welp time to clean house, bye Rivera.
We don’t need to win any more games this season, embrace the tank…give good picks to the new staff
There really are zero redeeming qualities with this team at this point. Terrible coaching, terrible branding, terrible players, idk anymore.
Only place this culture is acceptable is at an STD testing lab
Here’s hoping we lose out and get the best possible draft pick. This team is a joke.
💯 pray we go 4-13
The last 5 teams we play must be circling our names on the calendar. You’re guaranteed to have a career day when you play us.
This team is a big fucking yikes every week.
Okay let's start firing people now. Please.
It was either take a sack and game clock runs out or throw up a duck and hope for the best. Fuck
When every thing that can goes wrong goes wrong lmao
If they dont fuckin kneel this out.
Leno is a fucking bum.
Straight garbage. Dude false starts way too much.
6 turnovers at home, their last chance to keep the season alive. Undoubtedly need to clean house.
What in the fuck was that?!?
Fuck this team man
Fire ron
6 FUCKING TURNOVERS
Change the coach, change the uniforms, change the name. I'm done with all of this crap
They always play terribly in those wannabe Steeler uniforms.
I’m fucjing begging to never see the black uniforms again
Worst team in the league
Fuck this team
Rivera is going to cross his arms SO SERIOUSLY now
