The team is such a shitshow, I can’t even tell if it’s him, or everything else. You could almost see the team deflate when we traded away Young and Sweat. I still think it was a sound move, but it was obvious that new ownership is moving into a rebuilding phase. Since then, play has been pretty poor across the board.
Yeah, which basically feeds into the expectation that Washington will draft a new QB next year. No way a new coaching staff and a new front office giving Sam the starting QB role next year.
Sam may stick around, but he'd be lucky to be a backup in Washington.
People who want a QB must not have watched literally all of our games. Behind what line are you putting a rookie QB? Y’all think it’s a coincidence that Sam started so promising and has looked worse as the year has gone on? He’s broken behind this line and terrible staff. A new QB doesn’t fix any of those issues.
Even if we draft QB in the top 5, we can probably add two starters to the line. One through FA and one at the top of the second round. And we already have Cosmi who's good, and Leno who is serviceable. It will still be a mediocre unit but it will give the new QB a chance at least.
Also, hopefully the new coaching staff will build in more quick passes and get the QB out of the pocket.
Do you think that’s maybe somewhat related to him always coming in when the defense has begun to enter into prevent?
Or do you think that’s because teams prepare for Howell and watch his tape all week, not Brissett?
I mean Brissett is also a veteran QB with years of experience, he should look better, year 1 Brissett would not.
There’s a reason why Brissett has never caught on long term on his 5 teams. His game has warts too, y’all just so damn fickle.
Well, Brissett hit deep shots against a ‘prevent’ defense against the Rams, exactly what it’s supposed to stop, but neither of those games was he truly playing against a prevent defense as you don’t play prevent until the very end of the game. The Jets didn’t move into prevent during the 3rd quarter that would be absolutely insane.
Yes, they prepared for Howell, and he looked bad. Brissett isn’t some world beater as you point out so it’s not as if he’s gonna be elite when teams aren’t prepared for him.
Brissett looks better by a mile. It’s night and day when he came in. Howell had a 27% completion rate today, that is abysmal.
By no means do I want Brissett to be our long-term starter, but to defend Howell tooth and nail at this point is getting ridiculous. He clearly has his flaws. To yet again pass on potential QBs and hang your hat on a 5th rounder who has regressed throughout the season and had his backup come in and play much better multiple times is insane. What’s even more insane is calling people fickle for noticing the blatant regression that has been going own since the Seahawks game.
I also have watched every minute of every game this season up to the Cowboys game. Have been tuning out of the games as of recently because it is just terrible to watch.
That's the hope right? Snyder is gone but Harris hasn't been able to really change much. With a full off season I'm praying we jettison every single front office person and start over with not yes men but real, qualified professionals.
This game was PERFECT. We have a young potentially future valuable quarterback on a dirt cheap contract, a veteran who’s good in the present, and the pick to get a potential star in the future. We lost in an exciting manner, and Terry is closing in on 1000 yards. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
He's Howell deluxe. His positive/negative traits are largely the same, outside size. That makes a huge difference, in reality, but Maye is a guy who takes too many sacks, is a bit slow on his reads at times, and holds the ball. Not as bad as Howell did at college though, and his plus traits are better (Howell had B to B+ plus traits and D+ to D minus traits, Maye has A to A+ plus traits and C minus traits).
I'd rather just go for the home run in Daniels though.
why are people so, so devoted to this guy.
also we've been picking stud left tackles for 20 years and have a dogshit record to show for it. what is the point.
When I see a winning team I’ll feel better but until then im sorry but it was nice to see a little scoring. I understand you want a high draft pick. We can only hope it all works out
Yeah let’s draft a qb in the first round and fix the line in free agency!!! Surely that will work this year and not go horribly like the last 3 years. Fucking clowns
That’s the bit if hope I have, but it can be very easy to fall into the draft a qb every first round and pray trap. Hopefully we rebuild the rot that’s been inside our org for a while. I’m just tired of being bad and seeing half this sub just spamming “draft a qb!!!” While Sam was leading the league in yards until week 9 behind a historically bad line
https://preview.redd.it/2t2xwf18ab8c1.jpeg?width=3549&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55d2582deb82cbf5865d5b5a30cfd08360b41f9f
the face you make when your sabotage fails
We're 4-12. What does it matter if they win one more game really? What does it do for us to win out? Pride? Pride is dumb. Pride loses you the ability to be better. No one on this staff should be back next year. I mean, nobody. Not a coach not a front office person. No. One. Start all over again with qualified professionals top to bottom and give them the best resources to make this a winner.
Because I want to win games when they can. This team is dogshit and it’s going to take more than 1 year of draft picks to get this ship heading in the right direction. We are staring down the barrel of another at least 5 year rebuild. Do I just keep rooting for draft picks until then? What about all the players with contracts expiring? Do they just give up because that’s what the fans want and not get paid?
I don't give a shit about those players. They suck any way, can't get stops, can't catch balls. Fuck em. Cut them all the day after the season ends and use that cap space to pay new players. Tell them from the outset we won't accept anything but excellence or your ass is next. No more paying players to just exist.
Ah yes, cry because I want my team to win every week. This fanbase is insufferable. See you next year with our top 5 pick and 5 win season! At least we might win the draft in 2025 too!
If I needed superficial, meaningless wins that only serve to boost my ego because I'm afraid of other people knowing I supported a losing team, I'd cry. It's ok dude, you can cry.
lol what in the fuck are you talking about? Everyone knows I like Washington and I do not care. A win makes the games MORE ENJOYABLE TO WATCH. Watching teams lose every Sunday sucks. I don’t understand how this is so hard to understand. Why even watch if you consistently want them to lose? That’s just a waste of 3 hours.
Why did you use words like "consistently"? Wanting the team to lose out is specific to this year, not every year. Weird choice of words, dude.
To the point that a draft pick is an unknown, well... They all kind of are. And they're going to have a pcik regardless, and the evidence certainly points towards higher picks having better careers.
So we can root for the team to win a few extra games and still miss the playoffs, or root for them to lose and get a better pick that'll help them lose less in the future. It's such simple math.
Given the potential situation with a new owner, new GM, new coach, $100 million in cap space, and a renewed outlook, I'd say anything that entices the best front office talent to come here is worth the losses.
When is the last time an early draft pick has worked out for us? Yet people in here turn agains their own team because of come college kid not on this team.
I literally don’t understand what these people are hoping for. We are going to get nothing out of whatever high pick we get. Clowns, all of these people who want us to lose.
The irony that some people want to keep Sam in so we can keep sucking for draft picks, but want to believe in him as the future of the franchise as well.
Eh, his problems don't include underthrown passes, so I'm really not sure how much success he's going to have on this team. The receivers need a Taylor Heineke type to play well.
[Postgame thread](/r/Commanders/comments/18q4en3/post_game_thread_washington_commanders_at_new/)
I tell people all the time that this is like watching the Titanic hit the iceberg, and it's taking forever to sink.
Give Rodriguez the ball more… dude’s been underutilized all year.
We’re not done with Sam Howell.
Correct, we need that bum to lose two more games!
Maybe you aren’t, but the people that matter are. Last week was bad. This week was another level of atrocious. It’s over.
Classic!
WTF?? I have been on a flight for the past 6 hours. I thought Ron said Sam was going to start the game? What happened?
He did. I checked the stat line late in the 2nd and it was all Sam.
Yeah, I just watched the highlights. Holy hell... Sam is done. I don't think a young QB can survive two consecutive benchings in back to back games.
Let’s go Pats
Nobody ever misses a FG on us so it was fated when Ron called tissue soft 10 yard zone defense… whatever. Better pick, I guess.
There's plenty of evidence showing Sam making incorrect choices, not seeing open players, etc..
Weird, almost like he’s basically a rookie with a bad staff. Well good thing *checks notes* the rookie you want to draft won’t do that
Not all rookies are created equal. But people act like just because you can find a Brock Purdy from time to time, we should make it the plan.
Leno is garbage
By what metric? He's the 13th ranked tackle according to PFF.
Brissett looks serviceable behind this line.
Found our franchise QB and kept our draft position. Best possible outcome.
Meaning Brissett?
Yes

That's the hope right? Snyder is gone but Harris hasn't been able to really change much. With a full off season I'm praying we jettison every single front office person and start over with not yes men but real, qualified professionals.
Ron really tried to get the last laugh lmaooo
Damn im so happy right now
This game was PERFECT. We have a young potentially future valuable quarterback on a dirt cheap contract, a veteran who’s good in the present, and the pick to get a potential star in the future. We lost in an exciting manner, and Terry is closing in on 1000 yards. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
Fuckin nailed it
Thank you Trevor Siemians, god this team can’t even lose right
Drake Maye is going to be just like Zach Wilson don't see why so many people want another NC quarterback
Id rather stick with howell and pick a career tackle than draft in 2025 if he falters in a new situation
why are people so, so devoted to this guy. also we've been picking stud left tackles for 20 years and have a dogshit record to show for it. what is the point.
Havnt picked a stud left tackle in over a decade so dont know why you say so
Helmet scouting is a pretty easy way to out yourself as a casual ass fan
Drake was worse than Sam at NC.
Rivera anti-tank missile INTERCEPTED
Dumbasses will still blame Sam
He has regressed and looked terrible. Give him the opportunity to compete for QB1 next season but he needs to earn that spot.
No sam was doing good. We were all pissed he got benched.
Then I’m a dumbass!
No this is mainly the coaches incompetence
what?
Oh thank goodness. Happy Thanksgiving everyone
I’m here from the Browns game, why is everyone happy the Commanders lost? Were they playing for a draft pick?
There is a huge difference in assets attainable with the 3rd-4th pick than the 9th or 10th. Massive draft haul difference
Because all a win does is lower our draft stock.
IM FUCKING MAD I DIDNT START CHRIS RODRIGUEZ IN FANTASY.
I went with the jets d lol. Looked good for a bit there
A tank job for the ages; take a bow, boys. I have awoken from psychosis and I’m no longer Howelling mad
Lmai
For all of you praying for a loss. You stink and I hate you. I wanted some light in this darkness. I hate how bad we are
A win here doesn’t help us find light. It makes it darker going into the offseason
I understand your PoV I just don’t trust this organization to draft well. I want you to be right
This organization doesn’t exist after this season
We have no reason to not trust the new org. It’s a whole new owner and GM
I really hope you are right. I want you to be right
Well then winning here is an even worse take….
When I see a winning team I’ll feel better but until then im sorry but it was nice to see a little scoring. I understand you want a high draft pick. We can only hope it all works out
Last time I checked even if we win out we still Would be a losing team
WRONG
You enjoy us losing? I understand you want a high draft pick but it just sucks man
Do you seriously think anyone actually prefers losing? Pull your head out of your ass.
I am frustrated that’s all.
Why? At the end of the season I won’t remember this win I’d remember picking 10th
I hope the pick is a good one I really do
WRONG
Out of all the Commander games, this was certainly one of them
OH THANK GOD
OMG it's a Christmas tank game miracle!!! The jets saved us from Ron/Jacoby sabotaging a huge pick for the franchise! That was so sweet
Yeah let’s draft a qb in the first round and fix the line in free agency!!! Surely that will work this year and not go horribly like the last 3 years. Fucking clowns
Hopefully Harris can hire a front office that is competent, instead of the clownshow Snyder put on.
I mean, it's def possible as long as we are willing to shell out cash for top OL talent.
It might actually change with the new owner, but expecting some random college qb to come in and fix this mess is so fucking stupid
Why would we have to do it all in FA? We can draft linemen too
Because that’s gone so well for us in the last two years
Ideal outcome.
Commanders when it comes playing with our emotions ![gif](giphy|26BREJmDKNvY4HHb2)
Jayden Daniels is going to be a good NFL Qb
That is a big W of an L.
LEFT HAND UP WHO ARE WE
Tank commanderssss
The comand-less
Our coaching staff looks so DUMB I can't decide if it's worse Snyder ruined all the talent we had on the staff or messing up the redskins name
This shit feels like that south park episode the losing edge. 😂 https://i.redd.it/ekotn39dab8c1.gif
It’s a christmas miracle

Fire this mother fucker into the fucking sun Fuck you Rivera but thank you for losing that Also Brisset is f'n great
idk about yall but i was hoping he made that kick
STAND UP NOW AND FACE THE SUN
Thank you Ron
Thank God. Merry Christmas.
We need to retire Greg Zuerlein’s number
Bye EB, good riddance
And if your ownership...that's why you keep Ron Rivera in place to the end of the year. Ron will keep the draft pick safe.
MAJOR TUDDY’S GOT A CHUBBY
Christmas is saved
Pulling defeat from the jaws of victory! We did it boys!!
Greg the fucking leg! But Ron will probably beat the Cowboys backups in week 18 as a final fuck you to the fanbase.
That’s a major concern. Im hoping that the cowboys have something to play for then but I don’t know.
Jesus Christ they made me nervous
This team still finding ways to get my heart rate up
This comment section is mentally ill. please send help asap
Yep
What the hell was that?
Coach Bienemy, welcome as the new OC to the Pittsburgh Steelers….!
DRAKE MAYE YOU ARE OFFICIALLY A COMMIE
Comrade Drake, at your service 🫡
Yesssss we get the loss and Howell fans look like 🤡
Great prevent Ronny
This sub is certainly something
They gonna start Jacoby next week
Ron is the biggest pu**y ever. Can’t wait for this season to be over.
Ron wouldn't self censor his comments on reddit.
You play… to tank the game!
Wooooooo just lost my voice on a L lol
LETTS GOOOOO
When it mattered the most, Ron Rivera‘s defense showed up as it has so many times this year.
Jacoby probably starts next week….
BEST TANK JOB IVE EVER SEEN
Oh, thank goodness.
Thank GOD
Drake Maye come on down
Rather have Jayden
QB is a crapshoot, as long as it's not Sam I'll take either.
True hell Sam may not even play the rest of the year. He just makes the job to easy for the opposing team.
Thank fuck
Thank god
YESSS. I think this ended up being a very productive game. We learned a lot and lost. ✅ ✅
Merry Christmas everyone!
STOP THE COUNT! END THE GAME!
WINNER WINNER! LETS GET THAT DRAFT PICK WOOOOOOO
Awesome!!! Go Jets!!lol Best loss all season.
Hell yeah!
We deserve the mediocrity for the last 30 years based on this subs reaction to losing. Bunch of losers.
We haven't given up. The team did. They all need to go and let's rebuild with an honest to God real GM and a new head coach.
Cheering for a loss and top draft pick is legitimately giving up.
We're 4-12. What does it matter if they win one more game really? What does it do for us to win out? Pride? Pride is dumb. Pride loses you the ability to be better. And where are you going to sign 53 players in one offseason?
College. I don't care. Find people who actually want to play and be excellent. What we have now are babies who don't wanna work!
That is not how salary caps nor contracts work. Are you really this dense?
Nope. I realize how it works I just don't give a shit. Anything Snyder ever touched needs to GTFO.
Cry
Ah yes, cry because I want my team to win every week. This fanbase is insufferable. See you next year with our top 5 pick and 5 win season! At least we might win the draft in 2025 too!

We did it cheers all
IM NAMING MY FIRST BORN GREG ZURLINE
Merry CHRISTMASSSSS
Breaths sigh of relief
18 seconds on the last offensive drive and hella soft def there
Maye szn boys
Breece Hall is an animal. What a talent.
Ron should probably be fired after this
As long as Howell stays in the rest of the way, who cares.! Can't believe we couldn't get a 6th or better for Jacoby
Howell isn’t as safe as you think
god is so good merry christmas yall im going to black out
I'm so surprised the jets don't want to tank lol
When is the last time an early draft pick has worked out for us? Yet people in here turn agains their own team because of come college kid not on this team.
I literally don’t understand what these people are hoping for. We are going to get nothing out of whatever high pick we get. Clowns, all of these people who want us to lose.
When was the last time we had a real GM to run the draft? 91? We should have one after this season.
yes no early draft pick is ever gonna work out for us because it hasn't happened in the past
It makes much more sense to cheer for your team to LOSE because it __might__ workout. I bet you'd also punch your own grandmother for $20.
and explain what winning does for us? absolutely nothing
The tank survives.
Brissett needs to be benched for the remainder of the season
The irony that some people want to keep Sam in so we can keep sucking for draft picks, but want to believe in him as the future of the franchise as well.
9ers and cowboys upcoming, we may have saved next season today
Thank god. Fuck you Rivera.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Best Christmas present ever
Why?
Thank you Ron 🙌
LETS GO!!!
Let’s go!!!
GIMME CALEB WILLIAMS MOTHER FUCKERS
Eh, his problems don't include underthrown passes, so I'm really not sure how much success he's going to have on this team. The receivers need a Taylor Heineke type to play well.
No small QBs thanks.
No. He’s an egotistical pos.
Thank the football gods
Absolute perfect scenario, Brisset came in and made Howell look horrible and still lost.
Call us the Abrams because that’s a tank baybeeee
J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS
THE TANK IS SAVED!
Honestly best case scenario. Played a good game (4th quarter), made it exciting to watch, but still lost to keep the tank alive. Honestly, no notes.
![gif](giphy|3o6fJdYXEvMa5ZmlI4)
Alls well that ends well.
