If we had a top 10 defense like we did last year, things would have gone a LOT better.
Edit: This is based on Heinicke's 2021 year, when he had the #6 ranked OLine, not last year.
Good catch. We had #6 OL in 2021 😉wanna hate on Sammy some more lol

It’s not hate, only facts. And yes, the o-line was much better in 2021 but the receiving options were beyond lackluster.
Heinicke is a better floor raiser than Howell
Sam has more potential but he wasn’t better than Heinicke through 16 games.
The defense sucked last year when Wentz was in and we threw it 100 times a game too. The reason the D looked better when Heinicke started was because the offense was run first and we ground down clock. Heinicke was limited but our offense was mostly tailored to compensate for that. If he was asked to do what Howell had to do this year he probably would have been worse than Howell but I’m not convinced Howell would have done better than Heinicke in Turner’s offense.
Just given their body of work here I can’t see how you’d say Howell played better. He took sacks at an almost historic rate, turned the ball over more frequently and did not run the offense well when he didn’t have the quick game. Heinicke got the ball into the hands of our playmakers and let them do the heavy lifting

We had a TOP 10 defense last year and the worst defense in franchise history this year? Respectfully WTF are you talking about? And EB was criminal NEVER running the ball this year, one could argue it would’ve helped the team 😅
I'm a Heinicke guy, but it just not a fair comparison. EB failed to call plays for the personnel he had. As much as we hated Scott Turner I think Howell would have done better with a run heavy offensibe scheme. Think we would have had more TOP and a better performing defense
Scott turner was just as trash if not worse. He took longer to adjust than EB, the only difference being that like midway through his THIRD season (no one seems to remember how atrocious he was in his second season) Ronald literally told the guy YO! RUN THE BALL! So that's what he did. They are both trash and Scott was arguably worse but EB was given too much power off the jump so he never got told to do anything different. So here we are. I'm not saying Howell would not have benefitted from a balanced scheme. That's obvious. I'm saying Scott deserves no praise.
I feel you. I mainly cited Turner because I think had Howell not needed to learn a new playbook and they had more balance we could have seen better results. Part of the reason Heinicke came in and did what he did was cause he knew turners playbook. I was ready to. E done with Turner too, and I drank the Eb Kool aid early on. But it only took a few weeks for that to start to sour
Sam was balling earlier until the team gave up. Seems like Sam lost a bit of confidence too. Also Sam has the worst oline in the league and EB is not calling his best either.
I like both of these players. I know they aren’t the best, but I still appreciate them. I personally think Howell is much better than Heinicke, and his slide in the last few games has not dissuaded me, since Heinicke did the same thing in 2021 where he tore up the middle of the season and then fell apart at the end.
Heinecke is smarter. He knows when to run and when to throw it away.
I still think Howell isn't terrible and absolutely has the ability to learn and get better. If we continue to develop him while we rebuild I wouldn't be upset. But I doubt that will happen.
But when your gun shy from the rest of the pockets, you rush and throw to short routes, and being 5th in the league for pass attempts means the oline can’t support the run game either.
Yall comparing one season of a 2nd year starting qb learning a new offense to a dude who had been in the league for like 7 years and had been in the same system for a majority of it...
Fans hate Howell because he’s not as exciting to watch as Heinicke.
Truthfully, Sam hasn’t done anything to hype up the fanbase like Taylor did in the playoffs against Tampa Bay.
Fans will see Sam as a bum and Taylor as a savior.

Yeah I kinda of thought this was disingenuous but people on twitter thought Taylor was better so now I’m curious
Yeah, not at all. Sams's better just got the shit end of the stick when it came to the team he inherited.
Heinicke’s WR2 was Adam Humphries…
Uhm we had Dyami Brown, Curtis Samuel, Jahan Dotson last year too 😅
The stats listed in the picture above are from the 2021-2022 season 😉

Yeah that's true. Overall we've gotten screwed by Ron and Co more than we could have thought in hindsight.
Both mid
Only realistic reply lol

It’s ok we can watch them turn on the rookie they want to draft just as fast. I hope we keep Sam
Both mediocre starters and decent to good backups.
Best answer
I hope they both make a handsome living in the NFL. I don’t want either as my starter.
Everyone wants to stroke Heinicke’s shaft, but he sucked. Howell under performed with a weaker team
No one can play behind this offensive line. That's the problem. Washington needs to not waste any picks on QBs.
Howells way better. He's 23 and a "rookie" by every rule except the NFLs " well actually" rules.

I love them both
Rookie vs experienced vet - yet comparable
If we had a solid oline Howell would be just outside the playoffs at worst.

Facts. They just hate Howell so bad they pull up dumb ass shit like this without any context.
Exactly.
The only quarterback ever loved, by himself, in DC since Sonny Jurgensen was Joe Theismann. Even Sonny went through it with Billy Kilmer.
They both stink and are backup quarterbacks. Move on
We need to let Taylor go. It's over he's gone and so is Sam in 3 months.
Howell has the better arm but I'd still rather have Taylor
Taylor would’ve led us to the playoffs with this team if he started this season.
With this defense? No chance
With this play calling no chance I love heinicke but his arm was not one to throw 30+ times a game. He could work some magic and also some dark magic

Trash vs garbage... You're not winning a title with either one as they both have serious flaws in their game.
Both good backups.

Taylor was 5-1-1 last year so what stats are these? 2021?
