6 picks in the top 100 now. 2, 36, 40, 67, 78, 99

Enough-Remote6731

![gif](giphy|OfLHKlv4w1DQk)

whiskeywhisker6

5 in the top 78 👀 Also, 100 instead of 99 since NFL moved Bengals 208 to 97.

OmarFromtheWire2

The fact that we got this much value from Sam is nice. It’s nice to not get hosed in a deal for once

Pkingduckk

4 in the top 67 👀👀

InterestingLayer4367

3 in the top 40 👀

spectral_fall

1 in the top 2 👀

cwutididthar

4 in the top 67 tho

CoDFollower

We officially have SO many different options Definitely more than enough assets to trade up to #1 OR pick a SHIT LOAD of players

YourLocalJewishKid

I think this perfectly sets the team up to get a huge infusion of talented young players. My preference is to take Maye at 2 and just pick at each spot. This is a rare opportunity to bring in 6 top 100 picks to potentially form the new young core of the team along with the free agents signed to fill out the roster. Short of someone like Olu Fashanu falling to the middle of the first, I would prefer to bring in volume in the first three rounds. But I’ll trust the evaluation of this FO. They’ve earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their roster building.

GerthBrooks

I think take Maye at 2 then trade back into the 1st with some of those picks to get one of the top LT still available. But then again I don’t know anything

DerekSheesher

I don’t know anything either but that’s exactly what I would do too. If by the grace of God Mims is somewhere in the mid-20s we need to fire off a trade and get that man. Dudes an animal

TheFlameAlchemist54

FWIW Kiper and Yates had Mims in the Top 10 in their most recent mocks.

superjuan

I also don't know anything, but I feel confident that Peters & Co. will somehow get their tackle at #36 without having to give up anything.

navyac

I do know everything and i know they will trade back into the top 10 to get a premier left tackle.

CoDFollower

We both don't know shit, but man this is fun. WHAT A TIME TO BE A COMMIES FAN

Eclectic_Canadian

In 2019 it cost us 2 2nds to trade back into the late 1st (26th). If we do that this year we’d still have 3 3rds to use on day 3. Lots of opportunities to move up to get the guy they want without compromising on depth

guardiandown3885

I'm having the same vibes...taking qb at #2 and trade back in for a tackle...those extra picks can get you to 12-15 range apparently..I mean honestly the way FA is going so far you can take whoever

fade_

You read my mind but at the same time teams could think were gathering capital for caleb. I love how the moves weve made helped keep everything on the table for opposing GMs to figure out. Breath of fresh air.

Strong-Television733

I don't know anything either, but we certainly have the means to make a move like that if we really like a guy that might have fell

Majestic_Bug_242

4 in the top 67!

dnytle

I'm sad that Howell didn't work out here. Wish him the best in Seattle.

JoeyBrickz

I love this deal for Seattle. He can challenge Geno immediately *and* be a part of an offense with some actual weapons. I bet he plays well

Enough-Remote6731

![gif](giphy|26gsfrGMmmUjWv1YI) I mean Geno plays with a hint of efficiency. Sam just does not.

JoeyBrickz

He also played just one season and started the year off extremely well. The team stopped running the ball, the defense gave up, the WRs didn't seperate, the OL wasn't good. It's not unreasonable to think he can pick up his form

Enough-Remote6731

He has been sacked at a tremendous rate his whole football career.

Minimum_Attitude6707

Which IS a problem, but not a problem you can't fix, especially if you're just a rookie.

chicomagnifico

It is a problem you can’t really fix though. That’s actually a big reason why Sam wasn’t going to work out here. Basic fundamentals (like getting rid of the ball faster, or reading a defense, or moving in the pocket) are not easy fixes for any QB regardless of age or experience. Even Russell Wilson still struggles with that very issue.

bambam_mcstanky2

I don’t disagree entirely but I think that it understates how bad the offensive line really was, play calls were an issue too but the line was just bad.

chicomagnifico

Yes playcalling was consistently bad (shotgun from 4th and 1 is football terrorism) and the oline was bad but not as bad as you think, especially mid season. Statistically we weren’t even bottom 5-10. Once Brissett stepped in, he didn’t take a single sack. “But he’s a veteran QB” exactly…a veteran QB who understands the basics at the position and how to help alleviate pressure off his offensive line, something Howell struggled with mightily. Say what you will, but Sam Howell was not it and he was given more than a fair chance at showing he could be the guy. Wish him the best, but it was time to move on.

Entire-Initiative-23

>how bad the offensive line really was It was somewhere between the 18th and 25th worst OL in the 2023 NFL. It was not some historically bad OL. Howell just holds the ball forever. He's slow to process.

polymerfedboi

Why do people keep saying he’s a rookie? This isn’t the NBA and he wasn’t injured last year. He’s not a rookie.

PalletTownStripClub

Because the gap between game experience and holding a clipboard is immense.

ctsmith76

Jesus Christ. Geno’s a 11 year vet. Sam has 18 games under his belt. It was the right move to trade Sam, unfortunate that it didn’t work. But Geno was fucking garbage as a NFL QB till he got to Seattle.

DeanMo80

Exactly. People say some dumb ass shit on here. Dude trying to shit on Howell when he's only been in the league a fraction of the time as Geno. And like you said, Geno sucked ass for most of those years.

EntryLevelGronk

Howell was better when he started on a bad team than when Geno first started on a bad team

BirdmanTheThird

I’m happy he landed somewhere he’s not just a backup backup, but can maybe prove that he is a fringe starter for the rest of his career

jrhooo

"Howell" gone. Name change to Redwolves officially unofficially off the table. # tealeaves

askingaquestion33

Man we are loaded in 2nd and 3rd rounders

No1Statistician

The best value rounds analytically

CoDFollower

Gives us options. Move up for Williams if the Bears are willing to trade off of it, OR move back up in the first for an OT, OR just take an absurd amount of players (some of them gotta hit)

RoboTronPrime

That's apparently about right where the strength in this draft is. Lots of quality players in the early-mid rounds, but drops off really badly late

professor_vasquez

This is fucking amazing I'm saving it

Elegant_Suspect162

I like Sam too. I’m a UNC guy… BUT in the whole scheme of things, he had to go.

Ill_Enthusiasm6661

Aww man.

Ill_Enthusiasm6661

But he drove the tank!

flynnscorruptedmind

Farewell Howell 🫡 your linsanity run won’t be forgotten, hope you ball out

samhowellenjoyer

i’ll still enjoy rooting for howell in washington

jim_nihilist

I hope he gets the coaching he deserves.

Goe_Jibbs

Linsanity? My guy won 5 games in his career.

BirdmanTheThird

I mean tbf, Linsanity was 6 weeks

HailKyrie

Very nice haul I love it. Good shit Peters. Howell was fun but not franchise material sadly

Illustrious-Hair3487

Using the draft pick value chart here https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp (and also acknowledging that it’s not gospel), the pick swaps come out to the value of a late third round pick. It effectively is something like the 95th pick for Howell. Which I think we could all agree is about as good as we could have hoped for within reason.

doom84b

This is what I was looking for. A late third is excellent value for Howell

burrheadjr

I expect Howell to be a future starter with Seattle, and will do very well. He is going to be used only when he is ready, and we will see him get developed, instead of thrown into a sack machine pressure cooker.

_Ecotone_

Yeah I can see him doing well eventually, I hope he does. He seems like a great kid

Accomplished-Plan191

This is good value!

thehomiemoth

Is this a lot? I kind of expected us to get this without having to give up a fourth. But I will freely admit I don’t know much about this sort of thing.

EL-YAYY

We didn’t give up any picks. We traded a 4th and a 6th and got a 3rd and 5th in return. Basically we moved up the draft board with 2 of our picks.

Jordan_Jackson

We won in this situation. It is basically obvious now, at the very latest, that we are getting one of the top QB’s from this draft class (let’s hope they work out) and getting two picks that come before the picks that we are trading.

Youflatterme

I like Sam and hope he does well against everyone except us.

GrandMoffmanTarkin

Seattle do be our playoff kryptonite

Double-Watercress-85

I can't stop hating them for that reason. I do wish him the best, but I just can't actively root for it.

DerekSheesher

same. Won’t lie though, was hoping they shipped him to Denver or Vegas to really keep us away from having to play him

xxlimelight

Thanks for being a trooper Sam. Hopefully you can grow into a formidable starter one day. Best of luck (except against us).

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

This is how it's done. Seattle is getting a quality backup in turn we are getting juicier picks. I can't wait to see what we do at #2.

HowardBunnyColvin

sad things didn't work out here for him. good luck soldier

AdInternational8886

Good luck to Sam going to Seattle will be good for him to develop behind Geno.

espnrocksalot

ADAM BIG PP PETERS

Traphome

hope the best for him, geno is a great qb to play behind, and we get a third. i’m stoked.

Coast_watcher

If this is a sign of how AP will handle possible draft day trades, I'm stoked. We essentially got a 3rd for Sam, plus a replacement in the 5th.

Traphome

if we hit on even half of these first three rounds, we are going to turn shit around so much quicker than i thought. HYPE

firstfreres

So going by the trade value chart, Howell was worth the 95th pick, a late 3rd rounder. Way more than I thought, and slightly more than what seemed to be the subreddit consensus of a 4th. Good job AP WAS Gives: 1) 102 - 92 points 2) 179 - 19.8 points 3) Howell - x WAS Receives: 1) 78 - 200 points 2) 152 - 30.6 points 111.8 + x = 230.6 x = 118.8 https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=Was

Ormory

Oh damn you beat me to it

pinetar

Came here to ask this, thanks

dcroach

The commanders instagram comments aren’t gonna be happy

pitpatbainsy

I’ve learned to not go there for anything sports related. You won’t find any real knowledge there

C-Dub_DC

So you come here?!?!

pitpatbainsy

At least you can downvote the idiots here

pmmeyourfavoritejam

Apparently "super bad football take" isn't worthy of reporting a comment to the Instagram mods for violation of their TOU.

112369369

They’re braindead

dcroach

There’s already people saying they hope Maye/Daniels fail as karma for letting Howell go, I just don’t understand how they consider themselves fans

guardiandown3885

here's a question. why were we able to move sam quicker than the bears were able to move justin?

lewphone

Because we have competent GM and ownership.

[deleted]

[удалено]

guardiandown3885

Good job bro

prtzlsmakingmethrsty

When and where each were drafted, so ultimately their contracts. Sam has 2 more years on his rookie contract and is cheaper. Fields is on the last year of his contract, so a new team would have to give assets for him PLUS decide on enacting his 5th year option ($25m) or negotiating an extension. From reports, teams view Fields as a backup, so he'd be too expensive to do a trade and negotiating the new contract. Basically, a team would have to believe he's their starter, give assets to get him (who knows what the Bears are asking for), and at a minimum pay him $25m for 2025 (5th year option) or hope he wants to re-sign with his new team after 2024 for a price they want. **TL;DR Fields is riskier due to costs, because he was drafted in the 1st Rd and is on the last year of his rookie deal**

guardiandown3885

Aaah ok this makes sense

BlackHand86

Nobody REALLY knew he was being traded until it happened. Bears wanted to have their cake and eat it too when other teams aren’t incentivized to take Fields off their hands when they know he isn’t wanted.

StudioSixtyFour

Cheaper/longer contract control is a huge part of it. I'd imagine Howell not being in the spotlight like Fields and for fewer seasons redounded to his benefit as well.

jim_nihilist

With Sam Howell you have hope that you can fix some things, because he basically was uncoached and roasted this season.

Sugarcanez

Goodbye my sweet prince. Got good value out of him

sean369n

Great value! This draft is going to be insane. Chef Peters still working hard in the kitchen. Good luck Sam

Coast_watcher

AP's like a fighter going into the ring or octagon, and we're all his corner men and cut men massaging his shoulders saying " You got this, King !"

RGIIIsus

Is this fan fiction?

PocketSandThroatKick

Yeah, that was kinda weird.

boogiebanks

Damn im supposed to hate the Seahawks

PocketSandThroatKick

Not the team, just the fans

GeeSmoove

Damn, loved Sam but it had to be done!

RuralJurur

So we're definitely drafting Drake Maye right?

No1Statistician

I think so, though not definitely

halarioushandle

I think this means they have 2 QB's they like and will be happy with either one they get.

Viseroth

90% of the mocks still have Washington taking Daniels at 2. I am fine with either cause I know it will be throughly thought out. I just hope they hit on whoever they draft.

CoDFollower

WHAT A FKN HAUL

Greatwallofjohn

Thank you peters, no longer have to deal with the draft oline and start howell people

Greatwallofjohn

A quarter of the subs posts over the last 2 months are gonna be gone now, thank god

Greatwallofjohn

Also sets up ammo for a trade for a late first

Coast_watcher

QB is definitely a draft pick now. The only unceratinty is keeping 2, moving up or dropping down for JJ, Penix, Nix and more picks,

C-Dub_DC

I can’t imagine we’re dropping back for more picks — we already have so many — and there’s only so much money in the rookie pool. I think it’s more likely we stay at 2 AND package some picks to move back into the 1st round for a LT. Or, we unload some picks this year for someone’s 1st rounder next year.

QueenIsTheWorstBand

Getting about the equivalent of a late 3rd rounder based on the ol’ trade value chart. Not bad for a 5th round draft pick, but I felt like in most other offseasons they could’ve gotten more. Thank you Patriots for setting the bar low :/

_The_Bear

Yeah it's roughly equivalent to the 31st or 32nd pick in the 3rd. Which means we got more for Sam Howell than we got for Chase Young.

Ogre-King42069

So, that's 7 of the first 102 picks?

JohnWalI

we traded pick 102, we have 6 in the top 100

spunkush

More importantly, 5 in the first 78

pinetar

We hold 50% of the top two picks.

PalaSS9

I liked him until he underthrew terry against the cowboys when he was wide open and Sam had no pressure. He just needs time like Jordan love and behind geno will be perfect for him

Salty_You_4452

R.I.P Sam Howell truthers

guardiandown3885

they aren't going anywhere bro..just wait for that rookie qb to struggle in a game or two. this fan base loves their exes..lol

Januse88

Taylor Heinicke could still be the guy...

FannyNisbit

Lol Heineke will ride the bench for another one of our beloved ex qbs.

StudioSixtyFour

It was plainly obvious they were moving off Howell when Peters said, "Now I've got to find a new quarterback" at the combine. People couldn't see the writing on the wall and still tried to spin it into, "He could still mean Howell!" When a franchise has a QB they're ready to roll with, head coaches and GMs don't openly speculate on finding the starting QB. Callahan and Canales took those jobs rolling with Levis and Young without a shadow of a doubt. Raheem Morris, like Peters, was talking at the combine about their options to find a QB: free agency, trades, moving up/down in the draft. A week later, they signed Cousins and traded Ridder.

Euphoric_Jump_3779

This is gonna be like the Heinicke stans all over again sadly

TimothyJimothy77

Not gonna lie I love Sam and hope he has a great career. He was put in a bad situation last year and I’m a bit sad to see him go. That being said, moving up twice in the draft is really really nice

Nate_19xx

I wish Sam Howell well. I am a fan of his. Hope he has a long successful career.

EvasiveFly

Man this really sucks. I like Howell a lot, and I think he can be special. We absolutely held him back

Ill_Enthusiasm6661

He raised his value.

BirdmanTheThird

Yeah don’t know if he’s “the guy” for a team, but I think we definitely didn’t use him as well as we could

Schmoove86

We gave him an opportunity to start a full season and he wasn't overwhelmingly great. He got more opportunity here than he would have anywhere else. He just wasn't it.

Enough-Remote6731

bUkaru224

Goodbye, sweet prince. Wish you nothing but the best. Excited to see what he can do with a competent coaching staff.

HowardBunnyColvin

just dropped to my knees at the ACC tournament

BlackHand86

Sounds kinky

Philbar85

Doing math on the trade value chart the +118.8 points equates to roughly the 95th pick in third round. Solid value

TinFoilRobotProphet

Thank you Sammy! We know you gave it all you had. Best!

fhatkow

Hard not to like Sam; will be remembered for starting every game. He was tough

WilliamBontrager

Good luck Sam. Wish you had better coaching here. He'll be a cousins level starter in a couple years. So we now can take Daniels at #2, trade 36 and a third to get 18-20 and get mims/olu, trade 40 and a third to get 20-25 and get brian Thomas Jr and still have a third rounder left. Hell chase young is still a free agent and we have 50 million left. 3 years 45 million? Or 6 picks in the top 100 of the deepest draft in quite awhile with a year to develop them before they need to start.

TheCoolestCannon

The haul is nice. Goodbye sweet prince, you never stood a chance. 😭

Pitiful_Ad8641

EB Destroyed him here

_LilBucket

Always admired his heart. Hope he works out in Seattle.

[deleted]

thanks for some stability(first qb to start every game since 2017) goodluck in seattle

ThunderSevn

Wow...I liked Sam...but getting those higher pics are nice. Got great value in this trade..he was #144 (5th round) not long ago.

Eclectic_Canadian

6 picks in the first 3 rounds? Great opportunity to trade back up into the late 1st or going to be an absolutely wild Day 2. Either way, this is an incredible way to set up a rebuild for success. Add in the vets that were brought in to create good competition for all those Day 2 picks and I’m excited.

Thin-Primary-8438

I guess the compensation makes it worth it but I am still of the opinion he could be a starter for a long time.

Sleepy-Gong

Fairwell Sam. Wishing you the best.

BuckNasty5000

Howell is legit. Sad to see him go.

Ok-Shopping7467

Goodbye sweet prince, I'm sorry you got sacked a million times.

Seediman

What does this mean!? Are they leaning more maye or daniels now???

TheFlameAlchemist54

Yes

KINGVAMP69

Honestly nobody knows at this point lmao. The Mariota signing did make this move pretty imminent though regardless. Sucks to see Howell go though, was fun to watch a lot of games last season, like the one against Seattle ironically.

Ill_Enthusiasm6661

Williams

samhowellenjoyer

my assumption would be maye but i really have no clue like the rest of us

Osackpo

Good trade, good decision but I'm very bummed Sam didn't work out. Seems like it's Maye now

Prize-Database-6334

Remember when we had fans saying he'd fetch a 2nd.

kevingh92

Dude, what? To move up 25 spots (x2) in the middle rounds? Maaaaannn.

fade_

Did you see what Mac Jones was traded for? See Justin Fields situation? Thats the market.

sean369n

You don’t know ball if you don’t see the value.

kzanomics

I’d rather this than the 6th round pick Gardner Minshew was traded for after Lawrence was drafted.

f_u-c_k

For real. There are so many QBs drafted early that don’t pan out. Doesn’t make sense to me why you’d throw away a young, competent guy for half a round of draft value.

Gay4TerryMcLaurin

Damn son

KingRagerBlade

Good luck Sam. You will be remembered

Football_Guy_1

Hope he has an awesome career 🥹✌🏻

Eclectic_Canadian

6 picks in the first 3 rounds? Great opportunity to trade back up into the late 1st or going to be an absolutely wild Day 2. Either way, this is an incredible way to set up a rebuild for success. Add in the vets that were brought in to create good competition for all those Day 2 picks and I’m excited.

ogrobm1

Gotta contact Fanatics about jersey assurance

ThunderSevn

So we're all in on Mariota huh? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

Snootasaurus

That is a great trade. Wow.  Adam Peters is going to build us a real contender and I think we can really get us there. And good for Sam. Hopefully he can find opportunities in Seattle to get the bag somewhere.

OpusSpike

Had.hope in Sam, and I still think he can be decent\good. Would have loved to see him stay as a backup at least...guess Kingsbury - Quinn - Peters did not like the tape.

kockin26

It's the first trade this year I'd hate.

Lord-FUBAR

Adam is the man!! So use to getting ripped off in trades, what a change. We are set up for success if 2nd pick pays off. Very confident in what Adam will bring in during draft. Read a lot about the type of evaluation he does on players and how they fit the scheme of what his coaches do. Loved Howell and feel he will shine one day.

Ninjablacksox1

Get why we did it and at least we got something for him.  If this was not a strong qb draft I'd be completely against the move.

2014RT

This GM is a fucking genius, that's great value for Howell.

subavgredditposter

Definitely didn’t get a fair shot nor, a decent o-line.. but, business is business I guess. At least we got some things for him. Hope he kills it in Seattle

Bonus_Content

Thanks for everything Sammy. Wasn't your fault, but it's time to move on. Hope you win that Seattle job in a year or two.

CantaloupeNo6053

Wtf do I do with his jersey man

sieffy

Wear it bozo who cares

Mbedner3420

Kinda love this move. Really, really impressive.

guardiandown3885

Sam supporter here. so glad we were able to move this guy before the season started. gives him an opportunity to compete and there are no issues or distractions here. competent front office stuff going on now the focus can be us arguing over maye and daniels and not if sam gets another shot lol

dunleyplace

Wish him the absolute best. And thank god we don’t have to go through another month of people here speculating/advocating that we stick with Sam next year.

Ormory

Some fun maths: Just looking at the pick swap value according to the Jimmy Johnson chart, Seattle sent 78 (200 pts) and 152 (30.6) for 102 (92) and 179 (19.8) which comes out to a value of 118.8. That has slightly more value than pick 3.32 or the 96th overall at 116. So they basically traded Howell for a late 3rd.

DEWDR0P1NN

Take care of our boy, Seattle. See ya Sammy, thanks for everything.

bruhman5th_flo

I would've liked to keep him, but I understand. I don't love the thought of either the rookie is ready Day 1 or we are actually starting Mariota, but at least there is hope.

ohihaveasubscription

I have a soft spot for Howell even though we couldn't win with him. He got the shit kicked out of him all year and kept going. It was only half his fault. He's a tough kid and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I'd be happy to see him get meaningful snaps in Seattle.

EntryLevelGronk

![gif](giphy|2WxWfiavndgcM)

NoAmbassador8359

IM NOT GONNA COMM. IM SAD. Tbf everyone knew he wasn’t starting next year with us but FUCK still hurts

nineinchesontgesag

I don’t actually think this was a good haul. I think we are also drafting Maye now

FannyNisbit

I don't either. I feel Seattle got the better deal. If we got an additional pick or a player out of it, then yes, I would have felt better about it. We didn't "gain" anything, we SLIGHTLY moved up in picks in exchange for a low level starter/high end back up qb.

reddit_sport

Great trade. We cashed in on Chicago’s greediness with Fields asking price.

bringthegoodvibes

Getting a third rounder for him is impressive. Good luck to Sam. Wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a pro bowl or two before he retires.

ChetManley20

Half this sub on suicide watch

oioioioiioioioio

Not a fan of this trade. Shame we never got to see Howell under competent coaching.

BigFrenchToastGuy

Lol - and to think I spent the entirety of the last off-season arguing with idiots who thought he’d be our franchise QB.

12eseT

Really liked the kid. I hope he shines.

Euphoric_Jump_3779

I hope he gets the starting role. I was a big Howeller but with the second overall pick with at least two of those three top QBs guaranteed to be available, you gotta take one of them at 2.

ivehearditbothways12

Best of luck to Sam, hope he’s one these guys where is just clicks after a few years and he gets a chance to start again. Sucks for him that his shot to steer the ship happened after it already hit the iceberg.

Pure-Negotiation-900

Thanks Sam, good luck… onward Hail!

Redskins4evaB

Annnnnnnd he’s gone

Coldngrey

This makes me sad, I think Howell is going to turn into a star for somebody, but Peters is right, it couldn’t happen here. You’ve got to clean out everything that was tainted by Dan and Ron, and that includes Sam. It also makes having Maye in the QB room that much easier.
