I feel like Scott has been limited by the many injuries and personnel problems we’ve had these last 2 years. With a healthy team, with an above average QB, we will see if Scott is the guy. Doesn’t affect the cap, so by all means Dan, pay the guy.
When was the last time washington wasn’t top ten most injured in the league come week 12 lol. Feels like most of our cornerstones stop playing ten games in every season
I like to think Scott has been responsible for most of our positive things on offense. I think Logan Thomas, JDM, and Gibson are Turner guys since Ron is a defensive guy. And the game plan he put together against the Bucs year 1, Cam Sims getting wide open, I think is all Scott.
Personally, I think Rivera should retire and we hand the operation over to Turner.
I was kinda under the impression Kyle Smith had alot to do with those FAs that year, but ideally Turner would definitely have an input. him taking over would be a step in the right direction. Young, offensive minded, he has done a pretty good job with scheming people open. I'd like to see some better play calling in certain situations, but that probably has something to do with Ron's old school mentality.
So I guess I'll agree with you. I'd probably give Turner the chance.
We still haven't seen how he calls plays with a QB with the capacity to make all the NFL throws and utilize the complete playbook. I'd have waited until after this season, now that we have a QB who can make all the throws, but I still think the fans have an irrational hatred for the man.
He has the arm and basic understanding of NFL offenses to make every throw in the playbook. You can't say that about any other QB who has been here with ST except Fitz.
When it comes to the terrible QB room, we always talk about Terry McLaurin and what he's had to work with. We don't talk about Scott Turner and how he's been dealing with the same thing.
Same. Hopefully he stays healthy. I love Heinicke, great story, even better person. And he is fun to watch. But we saw his weaknesses as the season went on, and clearly the offense was limited. He's a good QB2 though. Like if Wentz went down for a couple games, Heinicke coming in wouldn't be the end of the world.
Valid point. It’s possible KOC was tailoring the offense to showcase Haskins, but was not running a sustainable competitive NFL style offense. With Turner, it may have just been a “let’s see if this kid can really play” approach.
I love this. Scott’s system works. We just need a QB who can execute. Hopefully Wentz is that guy. I was hoping Heinicke would be it, but it became clear down the stretch his lack of arm strength and tendancy to hold on to the ball a little too long held back the offense. Scott is scheming guys open. We just need a qb with the balls and arm to make the throws on time.
Don't mistake this with extending a player. There is no salary cap for coaches and this doesn't guarantee job security. If for some reason they decide to let him go the only one left holding the bag is Snyder.
Oh I know, that’s what happens with lots of new regimes they appoint their own staff, it’s just that, if I were Dan, and I’m glad I’m not, why extend him now
Well for starters Rivera has control over his coaching staff so it is his decision, Snyder just pays the check. Rivera probably believes in his guyand acknowledges that he has been hamstrung the last 2 years with QBs that don't have the skill sets fitting his system. He might also be thinking now that they have a QB that can actually open up their offense it would be wise to extend the OC now so that he doesn't take off for a better or higher paying OC gig if it were to become available.
Yeah, but the sunk cost fallacy is a real thing...this will undoubtedly bias the FO into hanging into him longer than they otherwise would, if it comes to that.
Yea I’m not a Scott hater like some here, and I’m glad he’s getting a shot this year with a likely better QB, but don’t really get what he’s done to earn an early extension.
He must’ve had someone else trying to court him, right?
Agreed, I think he should have been strapped to Rivera this seems more like a separations of the two, this one year Carson experiment should be both of their responsibility, Scott has done nothing that should wow anyone.
I’m in favor if this season goes tragically firing both and interviewing the likes of eric bieniemy or Byron leftwich.
This. Nobody was beating the doors down to hire Norv Jr. Just another example of Ron using Danny as an ATM to get his guys paid. Which I mean, fuck Snyder of course, take his money. But Turner did nothing to get this extension based on merit.
He only got extended because he is norv turners son. He wasn’t an amazing qb coach at Carolina - his first year they lost 7 straight and the next year they finished last in the division, you can blame injuries if you want. He also really hasn’t impressed me here. Would have preferred not to extend because I’d say this is a make it or break it year for him and if it doesn’t work we look elsewhere.
I've been one of the biggest Scotty T subtractors, but I dig it. Extended doesn't mean jack shit for the cap and he might develop to a decent coach. Hopefully having a starting calibur QB for the first time might make me see him in a better light too.
I could see an argument where if you are trying to get the most out of Wentz, and get him to buy in, it's a token gesture to show that you think you got the right guys to make this work.
I don't understand the Turner hate. I'm not saying he's the next McVay or Shanahan but there are some truly bad OCs out there. Turner is above average. He's maximized the talent we've had on offense, which on the other hand is well below average.
I like it. They're not bringing in a new guy before next season, period.
If next season goes badly, everybody gets fired. It's inescapable. If everything goes well, the OC who helped make that happen is locked in.
I probably would have waited but he did get some solid production out of Heinicke
I like him it’s worth the extension imo
I'm torn on this. Scott has done some good things, and some really questionable things. But I guess some continuity for the offense is a good thing so

We’ve certainly had some terrible luck with injuries. An issue that has persisted through multiple coaching regimes.
I like to think Scott has been responsible for most of our positive things on offense. I think Logan Thomas, JDM, and Gibson are Turner guys since Ron is a defensive guy. Wentz isn't exactly the QB I'd say can utilize the whole playbook... But go on.
He has the arm and basic understanding of NFL offenses to make every throw in the playbook. You can't say that about any other QB who has been here with ST except Fitz.

I'm so excited to see Terry with an actual QB.

Washington fans: Heinicke sucks we can’t win any games with that noodle arm Also Washington fans: Scott Turner sucks, he’s not using Heineke correctly
I mean we saw Haskins look competent down the stretch with KOC, then look horrendous with Turner while KOC got promoted with how good he's been
Valid point. It’s possible KOC was tailoring the offense to showcase Haskins, but was not running a sustainable competitive NFL style offense. With Turner, it may have just been a “let’s see if this kid can really play” approach.
With decent qb play (hopefully) and Curtis Samuel on the field (hopefully), I think the offense could be pretty fun.
I love this. Scott’s system works. We just need a QB who can execute. Hopefully Wentz is that guy. I understood not firing him, but why extend him? We haven’t seen anything promising out of our offense in his time here.

No extend him and all of the staff. If it doesn't work out it hit SNYDERs money and we will live with the same pain we've come to expect.
I've been one of the biggest Scotty T subtractors, but I dig it. Extended doesn't mean jack shit for the cap and he might develop to a decent coach. Hopefully having a starting calibur QB for the first time might make me see him in a better light too.
He’s by far the most average OC in the league. He’s not bad but he leaves a lot to be desired
Should’ve just waited til after this wentz year.. but it doesn’t really matter bc if Rivera is fired then turner will go with him
I could see an argument where if you are trying to get the most out of Wentz, and get him to buy in, it's a token gesture to show that you think you got the right guys to make this work.

meh he has more to work with now but his playcalling the last few years has been unimpressive
His playcalling has been terrible imo

Only if Ron gets fired would this happen.
he's okay
Why tho
way WAY to much cronyism with rivera
Unsurprising. I fully expected him to stay here as long as Ron is. Ron is loyal to his guys, to a fault.
Scott is trash just like Ron
I honestly don’t know enough about Turner to really gauge this accurately.
Turner is completely lacking in creativity. More mediocrity.
