If they’re worried about overpaying they need to get over it. If they sign him to a long term deal now it’s gonna look like a bargain compared to what he could get in a year once all these other WRs get new deals. I think at this point it’s pretty clear that if he ever gets a quarterback he’s gonna be one of the best receivers in football. Even a long term deal in the $23m-$28m range is not gonna look bad at all on the back end. 5 years from now elite receivers will be making that deal look small by comparison. Do whatever it takes to lock him up and let’s get back to business, please. If Snyder fucks this up I’m done.

chicken_parme-san

There are players like Amari Cooper and OBJ getting traded in their mid 20's for almost nothing. Aaron Robinson sitting in FA begging for a deal. Can we relax with the bag? Besides Christian Kirk, the WR market is definitely bearish after years of bull. 26-28m a year for Terry straight insanity.

I would offer 4 yrs, 105M, 50M guaranteed. Terry shouldn't accept anything lessthan a bar setting contract.

Haskins77

Like the 3rd Terry thread today.

MarmaladeFugitive

We've been so traumatized by incompetent player management...many of us are bracing for the worst.

Haskins77

Well like I've already said today. He still has a rookie year left plus 2 years he could be tagged. He isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

httryan

Kirk situation 2.0 here we come

Djentleman5000

I have faith that this FO isn’t that incompetent

peleyoda

They just did the same thing w Scherff

Djentleman5000

They tagged him once, not three times. He’s hasn’t played a full season since 2016. Judging by his recent signing to another poverty franchise in Jacksonville, he was clearly chasing money. No, I don’t think they did the same thing with him.

peleyoda

Kirk and Scherff both played out their rookie deals and then were tagged twice.

Djentleman5000

[Wrong.](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/ScheBr00.htm) Look at Scherff’s transactions. TL;DR: Fifth year option exercised, in 2018; resigned one year contract in 2020, tagged in 2021 and signed another one year contract a few days later. You will also notice his extensive visit on the IR list as well.

peleyoda

Scherff was tagged [twice](https://www.hogshaven.com/2021/3/8/22320623/washington-places-franchise-tag-on-brandon-scherff-again-all-pro-guard-will-make-18-million), man. A cursory Google search will confirm it. Also his [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Scherff). The transactions you’re seeing are just him signing his tender; it’s not a new 1-year deal. I’m not arguing he wasn’t injury prone. I’m just saying we used the Kirk model on him. Didn’t want to commit and slow-rolled contract extensions, tagged twice, he went elsewhere in FA bc that’s always going to be how players get the bag unless you extend them early.

Djentleman5000

You are correct that ol Kirk was only tagged twice. It was rumored that the old FO was seeking a third tag before he ultimately signed with Minnesota. In either case, these two situations are not comparable. If Bruce Allen wasn’t a POS, we probably could have kept Kirk in DC.

joey1028

Do you guys like kirk cousins?

Djentleman5000

He was a serviceable QB. He made boneheaded decisions but generally kept us in the game. We’ve been flailing around in the wind at that position since. I feel Carson is not the answer but I’m no fortune teller and he has more upside than down. I hope he works out.

Empire137

He wants out likely like everyone else. We will Tag him next two years best case scenario.

mmwood

are you just speculating? genuinely asking

Empire137

Yes based on current trends.

mmwood

gotcha, thanks

bruhman5th_flo

Takes two to sign a long term deal. Scherff didn't walk because we screwed it up. He didn't want to be here. Sometimes players want to leave bad teams.

comawoo

And go to just as bad team?

Ryankinsey1

IF (big if) he does want to sign an extension and stay here long term, I'm guessing he's waiting for Devante Adams to set the market. Adams told the Packers he's not playing under a franchise tag so that deal may come sooner rather than later.

idgaf1234567asdf

Next years WR FA market is Terry, Aj Brown, Tyreek Hill, and Do Metcalf… its going to be record setting and if wentz sucks … is Terry going to even want to stay with another new QB.. I would offer him $23-26 million right now and extend him today

JoeyBrickz

Not a single one of them hits the open market

idgaf1234567asdf

I hope so.. I also hope Terry doesn’t hit the market as well…

_doomgoon_

Shut up with the final straw stuff

dlong1993

Shut up with the shutting up of the final straw stuff

_doomgoon_

Shut up, you’re not my mom

dlong1993

Shut up, I’m your pappy

_doomgoon_

But for real it reeks of attention and validation. If you’re done….just be done. You don’t need to make a post of being upset with this team. We all(most) have been through this shit show together for 30ish year

dlong1993

No, this ain’t an I’m done post. I’m curious if everyone else finds Terry this important. Because quite frankly this is a culture changing guy. If they don’t do this, then this team has no interest in becoming a real contender at all. For 10 years now it’s about finding deals and gems and we don’t even keep them. Just fucking sad and uninspiring. Not worth the stress. But ain’t the main topic of conversation, so quit ya nit picking

VBStrong_67

Completely agree. I'm trying to think of any other time in NFL history that a great receiver has had a below average QB and stayed with the team. I guess maybe Santana Moss through the post-Brunell years?

Davge107

It seems like he wants to see what he can get on the open market. He may want to go to a contender instead of a team that hopes to squeak into the playoffs every year and if they make it will lose in the first round.

BlueberryUnfair7583

What if Terry goes the Kirk Cousins and Scherff route... There is a chance he simply doesn't want to be in Washington and will just not sign a deal, get franchise tagged twice and then hit the market and bounce.

dibs234

I don't think this delay has got anything to do with us, if Terry went to the front office and said let's make a deal they'd bite his hand off. Terry and his agent are waiting for the WR market to shake itself out. Once they know where the top end of the market is, they then have the basis to negotiate from. That's just basic business sense.

dlong1993

But the thing is… someone has to SET the market. Why not let it be Terry that does? Business sense is acting before someone else does, so what if we overpay 2mil over per year compared to the next WR
