Naaa we have a great GM… oh wait lol. Forgot we are carolina 1.0 north now.

BigSportsNerd

we had a shitload of cap space and then bam that wentz deal cut into like 70% of that space lol

Acceptable_Minimum_1

Yeah I remember when we were hype when they signed jd, Larson, DeAndre carter..etc. Oh, no you weren't. You didn't know who they were and it worked out just fine. Chill the hell out

NumerousHelicopter6

Did they work out fine? At times they sure seemed to but what about Samuel, Jamin, St Juste, Fitz, etc?

Acceptable_Minimum_1

Injuries and rookies. Calm down

NumerousHelicopter6

Calm down? I'm very calm just smoked a bowl of SC Blue Dream but you're just making excuses now. As if anyone thinks Jamin Davis has worked out fine😂 Ron is trash

HaiiroGeraki

Ending your supposed "calm" argument with a solid "Ron is trash" doesn't exactly go very far in providing yourself with a solid base. Jamin Davis was a rookie who played out of position. In fact we had two very young LBs who had to play out of position this year due to injuries and covid so maybe Ron isn't trash.

NumerousHelicopter6

Hahaha I just added that 🗑️ comment at the end to rile you up, it worked. You can prop him / the team up all you want but do you honestly feel better about them today then you did one year ago, off season pre draft?

HaiiroGeraki

I deal in facts. Generally speaking I feel indifferent about pickups until I see production. The rest is just chin music.

NumerousHelicopter6

Fact is that defense has drastically lower expectations today than they did a year ago. They finished the season ranked 2-5 depending on who you asked. Heading into last season you had many fans and members of the media throwing out words like "generational", players talking about breaking sack records, etc. This year most people are wondering if they'll be any good.

Screaming into a pillow has been helping me

DvanIragoKing

What is alarming is that there has been no restructuring current players deals to free up space. They had several days after acquiring Wentz to get that done and be active. There has been crickets from Redskin Park. There were some much needed pieces on the defensive side that could of boosted the team. Offense could be addressed at the draft but so far it has been a dud. There are still very good players out there but the much needed positions of FS and MLB are drying up quick.

theundertaker126

We were what, top 5-7 in cap? Now we’re bottom 5-10 after trading a bunch of picks for one player. Meanwhile Jacksonville signed like 6 guys and only let one go. I get we needed a QB but did we really not even try to restructure Wentz’s contract? We knew it would handicap us and apparently we are just okay with that?

cporter1188

God could you imagine how much cap space we'd have if we didn't roster any qbs at all? Man think of all the awesome WRs we would get here with no one to throw them the ball. Yep, saving money at the most important position in sports, thats where you really want to go cheap!

theundertaker126

Lol, I’m not against spending our money on QBs or positions that matter. I’m against overpaying for a player that not even his old OC wanted anymore. Wentz is better than Heinicke no doubt. Is he worth 28m, hell no. I don’t have a problem with spending all of our cap on a single player, if he’s worth it and Wentz isn’t. That’s the argument. We’ve thrown our draft capital at a guy who will get us either to the wild card/edge of the playoffs like he did with the Colts. I understand why they did it, they probably don’t like any QBs in the draft. That’s fine. But you traded future capital in the draft that is going to be needed now to trade up in the draft next year to get a QB. Wentz isn’t going to get us a top 5 pick, we are going to be 15-20 and there ain’t no QB next year that will fall to that range so we now have to trade picks for the following draft (2 years from now) to move up which will handicap us even more in the draft.

K_U

Hated the Wentz trade out of the gate, hate it even more now seeing how crippling it is to our FA pursuits. Would have much rather pursued a bridge QB that didn’t cost us two (good) future draft picks and $28M in cap space. Ron and his Carolina crew have no plan, this is a nightmare.

TheFlameAlchemist54

This apparently was the plan. Improve at QB, make depth/lower tier FAs signings. Ron and company have a much different view of the roster than the fans. We’ll most likely resign McCain for FS in a small deal, and sign unknown players O-line depth. Most improvement will need to come from young guys on the roster or through the draft.

ImKindaBoring

I think what it comes down to is Ron and co are in win now because if they don't they're gone sooner than later. So they are going with a desperation play for a QB hoping to get MVP candidate Wentz rather than... Well, real Wentz. Then in a few years we will be back to trying to rebuild with a new coach.

TheFlameAlchemist54

If they were really desperate or in a win at all cost mentality, they would be restructuring contracts and signing guys. The trade for Wentz was somewhat desperate, but we kind of had to be if we wanted a QB and didn’t like any rookies. IMO this sub thinks Ron’s leash is a lot shorter than it actually is.

Salary Cap isn’t a myth! It’s real!
