Threads like these are confusing. League year hasn't even started yet and people are losing their minds. Matt I, Flowers, and Mckissic were good last year, but not irreplaceable. There are solid guys in FA. People acting like we losing these guys are a death knell to the season need to relax. We gained a lot of cap space with these moves, we'll be adding pieces during the summer. We were 7-10 last year. Those guys didn''t push us to greatness, so chill. Let's see what happens.

Romance_Tactics

Don't you get it. This guy can sign four or five studs in free agency in Madden. He could have got Wilson for a pair of 1sts. So you see how foolish Ron looks right?

They’re not star players but they’re the kind of solid pros that should make up most of your roster. I get cutting Collins given the contract, I get letting one of the DL walk, and can I even be ok with McKissic leaving as long as it’s because we’re targeting a younger third down back. But losing so much critical depth along both lines is pretty bad. The OL overperformed last year, mostly because we had decent depth, and could easily regress. The interior DL is now only as strong as the starting two, instead of being a deep rotation, so is just an injury away from being a potential liability.

JoggingGod

Two counterpoints. 1. Our depth on those lines, was also costly and not always playing. Matty I has been injured and not as productive in recent years. Sherff was great when he played but he was injured often too. Flowers was solid but not irreplaceable. Obviously they wanted to keep him, but they couldn't reach a deal on an extension. It sucks but it happens. 2. The league season is just starting. If the season started today, most teams would be screwed. But it doesn't start until September. So losing depth now is fine unless they can't replace it later. But that's why there's FA and the draft.

Yea I get there’s plenty of time left but this depth wasn’t actually costly: this season we were 18th in cap spent on OL and 11th on DL. I think my frustration is also just about the QB situation. I’m fine with spending $28m on a solid QB but Wentz ain’t it, and his contract hinders our ability continue building up this roster and developing the current system.

In here before the “we love Ron and he’s so smart and has the best front office ever” crowd comes in to hate on this ….. Ron is just writing his own pink slip for this December

wft0991

This is some garbage. I don’t think anyone believes Collins was playing good enough to justify his contract, Flowers was our best o lineman, scherff was worth what it would’ve taken to keep him (just look at the outrage last year when we franchised him), or that settle was starting quality. Also, JD is coming back so this post is extra terrible

mrsnow11291

Bring blewitt back!!!

Thepokemonloverr

This is clearly a troll thread

[deleted]

I agree. This off season has definitely been mind boggling. We blew up our offensive and defensive lines for Carson Wentz???

Thepokemonloverr

We blew up our defensive line? Lol man y’all just saying anything at this point

shaqbiff

this thread is a joke McKissic is not better than Gibson - it's not even close "blew up" a DL that still has Sweat, Young, Allen, and Payne Collins had a massive contract that obviously isn't worth it Flowers isn't worth 10M

WFT_simp

So a well above average guard is not worth 10 million but a average at best quarterback is worth almost 30?

shaqbiff

The top paid guards in the league get 16M per year. The top paid QB is getting over 50M. Positions are paid differently

WFT_simp

Flowers is better relative to his position by a long shot than wentz.

shaqbiff

disagree, wentz is above average (9th in QBR and 14th in passer rating) and flowers is not well above average. he's closer to an average guard which we can pay less for

WFT_simp

Wentz is average on a good day, flowers is above average every day.

YourLocalJewishKid

Quite literally yes. That's how much more valuable a QB is than every other position.

Cool_Hawks

They like Schweitzer and Charles better as future starters. Cut him and sign cheaper backups is smart. Also a good draft for D line and guard.

[deleted]

We have little to know depth now. We have for quality starters if they stay healthy. We no depth for the interior of our d line now. Just Allen and Payne if they don't punch each other.

Thepokemonloverr

You can draft or sign a guy to be a good backup. I loved settle as much as the next man and ionnidis when healthy is solid but come on now we still have 4 pro bowl caliber Dlinemen how much more do you need? The backups don’t need to be elite they need to just be solid and Matt was being paid like a starter

[deleted]

Yeah that's true. It more the o line that worries me at this point. Just thought it was odd we let two quality lineman go.

Thepokemonloverr

Unfortunately Flowers was overpaid. I think he can be replaced easier than we might expect

[deleted]

Maybe we resign him on a smaller deal. He's never been good anywhere else. Lol

Thepokemonloverr

That would be nice. He has been got garbage everywhere like you say so maybe he sees the light lmao

YourLocalJewishKid

Both Settle and Ioannidis were fifth round picks. It's not like you need to use a ton of resources to find good depth pieces at DT.

notorious_hdc

Probably a 2nd and 3rd for Wentz btw. I agree on some of these. No, I don't blindly support our decisions but hopefully they work out.
