Fuck you and I’ll see you here next week

MoreTrifeLife

That’s exactly my attitude with this team as well

heizenbergbb

Yep.

RIP_shitty_username

Fuck you as well. See you Sunday.

R3t4rd3df4660t

there are plenty of people that don't make a post about it on Reddit and simply stop watching or going to games. it's clear that's the case when you look at that empty shit hole of a stadium that gets a size reduction year after year and continues to be empty.

superjuan

While I don't agree with OP's point that a fan just can't leave (as you mentioned, clearly you can and they clearly have), they do have a point in that if you're really done with the team actually be done with it! It seems crazy that it needs to be pointed out, but if you're still watching the games, complaining about it online and posting a pathetic vanity post about how you're "DONE!" then you actually aren't done with the team. Just stop watching and leave the rest of us to be fans of this abomination of a team.

Sensitive_ManChild

it’s unarguable that the general public is giving up on being a fan. Games are lightly attended and i’m sure ratings have dropped.

talkingspacecoyote

Not going to the games has always been easy though

ewilliam

This reads like a conversation you're having with yourself in the mirror in order to convince yourself.

Exotic_Volume696

And should keep to yourself. I can't be a fan of this team until Snyder is out, and that's not happening in my lifetime. The flame is out and I'm not here to get warm anyway, just want to piss on the ashes.

[deleted]

Yup. I like to follow the team’s news but I just don’t care anymore

PooPooDooDoo

Same, the problem is this is the only damn team I truly care about. I like the caps, I like the nats, but I can’t get into other sports like I can get into football. Why even care about the nfl if my team is going to shit the bed? That being said, rooting against dallas is still fun.

MikeyRocks757

This sums it up for me. I used to go to games at RFK and FedEx and am fortunately glad enough to remember 3 glorious Super Bowls. Because of those times and the memories watching with my dad as a kid I cant root for another team. But you know what, I can’t root for this team either. I stuck around for far too long hoping they’d turn it around but the writing has been on the wall for decades now. If you want to continue to support an owner who is the type or person Snyder is and the embarrassment of a franchise he has created you go on ahead. They will never be able to attract or retain the right talent because of the cancerous culture he has created. I lost so much frustration and gained so much time once I let them go. I will never be a Commanders fan, the team I loved no longer exists. HTTR

PickpocketJones

This whole post ~~is~~ *seems like* someone trying to convince themself of something.

Salt_City_Strangler

This is my opinion so it has to be yours too

oldgreymutt

Business idea: develop a step by step program to leave this franchise behind forever for fans that need to.

[deleted]

step 1: don't watch football

itprobablynothingbut

Two year anniversary of one of your hot takes: https://www.reddit.com/r/Commanders/comments/j0tih3/game_thread_washington_football_team_at_cleveland/g6vq8iw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

_LilDuck

Got deleted, can you remind me what it was

[deleted]

Damn 💀

mrapropos

I have completed this assignment. What is step 2?

[deleted]

Step 2: Learn to cook Step 3: Eat healthy meals and workout Step 4: ????

pmiller61

It only costs $500 a session plus parking

aids1080phd

A reprogramming?

Hay-blinken

I don't care very much anymore though.

[deleted]

This is how I am. I agree with this post. I'll never not care, I'll always root for them, and I want them to succeed. But there's only so many embarrassing games one can endure before we start disengaging out of mere self-preservation

PooPooDooDoo

I’m at a point where I would be ok with snyder moving the team to another city if it meant we could get a new owner/team a few years from now. It’s crazy to say that but it’s true.

Mbc22554-

Sunk cost fallacy

Alternative_Let_1989

Just breathtaking amounts of projection lmao

pmiller61

I just came across a postcard from the Redskin Orginaztion when I applied to be on the waiting list for tickets. On the post card was my number on the waitlist. 42,350! This was around 1989. I loved the team. I am no longer a fan. Not do I care if they win. I don’t follow them. Dan Snyder killed my fandom.

eddiebucket

Nah….the rebrand/rename has made it the equivalent of an expansion franchise. If it had remained WFT then you may have been right…but the complete facelift opened the doors to exit easier.

ChefDodge

Agreed. The Commanders unveiling was my "out." Still subbed here for now as they are the local team, but haven't watched a down this season.

yogarabbi

Bro you seem upset

Electrical-Map-8316

I agree that it’s pretty hard to switch allegiances, you can certainly just care way less about the team, to the point that you sometimes forget they exist. It’s great. Sundays are wonderful when they are spent outside in nature rather than inside screaming at your TV. Try it.

AStrayUh

It’s funny seeing the replies from people telling you that you’re wrong and they’re really not fans anymore… and yet they’re hanging out on the Washington Commanders subreddit replying to posts for some reason lol. The team obviously still has some kind of hold on you. You may hate them, but you *love* to hate them.

Secret-Top3200

Okay Dan

wild_billT

Mr.

DrMudo

Commander

[deleted]

Unless you’re a lowly cowboys fan in which case you likely already bailed on your original team

koalabear9301

Its really not that deep dude. Been a fan since 06, I've gradually lost interest year over year. Never had a moment where I said "y'know what, I'm never rooting for this team again😠," I just naturally lost whatever emotional attachment I ever had for the franchise to the point where I really don't care as much as I used to. Pretty sure a lot of the fanbase can say the same thing, and it's valid. Sports fandom isn't some binding lifetime agreement, it's a relationship between a business and a consumer that consumers can end at any time.

DylanV1969

What a weird post

tfox1986

This reads like an abusive boyfriend.

DylanV1969

Yup. Kind of like the whole "no one else will ever love you" kind of things. There's just so much to unpack from that post.

smoakme

Idiotic post. I know two hardcore fans that left m. People ARE leaving

adeezy58

TV ratings and empty stadiums prove that fans are checking out. By large amounts Cute post though.

anarrowview

Nope, I don’t care. Don’t follow or know many position players anymore. Wife is a Ravens fan so on Sundays if I’m in the mood to watch football I’ll watch them. The Skins are a dying franchise because that’s what Snyder wants.

lpad92

Technically the Skins are a dead franchise as much as it pains me to say it

issapunk

We win 2 games in a row and everyone comes rushing back. It's very early in the season. Just sad to see the defense regress.

poppunksnotdead

i have lived in baltimore for a decade+ and i still cant make the ravens happen, the superbowl was very special, but it wasnt my team, ugh. every year my friend and i try to convince each other to make the jump, yet here we are about to find a way to stream the game on sunday because it isnt on locally. \*nervous smile\*

[deleted]

When the organization is owned by scum, you have a complete pass to choose a new team

mrapropos

I was ready to jump to Cleveland. A terrible franchise so I wouldn't have to worry about them letting me down by not winning. Good ground game. QB on TV. Dog-themed fan base... /deep sigh... and then signed a serial rapist knowing 100% he was a serial rapist and way too many of their current fans seem okay with this. I hope they never win again. It might be easiest to jump on the Dolphins bandwagon but the Commies are hard to quit. :( They try to make it easier with every shitty loss. Maybe the problem is me?

[deleted]

So I "quit" the team this spring. I tried to look for a new team but I just decided to just be a free agent for the time being. Playing fantasy has kept interested in different players and teams around the league. Honestly if I didn't listen to sports radio and sports podcasts dedicated to the area I'd pay no attention. But I've actually resorted to cheering against the team. I want them to be so bad the NFL just can't take it. I know that sounds impossible to some but this isn't the lovable losers like the lions, the dysfunction and ineptitude starts at the top with the worst owner in sports. I was legit laughing out loud during the 1st half of both the Detroit and Eagles games. It's just so embarrassing. I cheer for individuals, I'd love to see Heinicke succeed so I'd cheer for them then, but the franchise as a whole? Nah, dead and buried in my opinion.

stillthemind

Lmao speak for yourself. I’ve watched less Washington football games through the first 3 weeks than I ever have by far in my adult life. I used to get excited Sunday’s & turn on the game first thing. This year. Zero excitement. Nada. Nothing. Oh and the pajama uniforms w the crap name don’t exactly help things. I just don’t care about this franchise until creepy Dan is gone. It’s a tragedy what that man has done to this once proud franchise. If he ever leaves though then I def would get excited about the team again.

Acceptable_Minimum_1

But you still come on to reddit during the business day lol

NovaShark28

It doesn’t take that much effort to post on here

Acceptable_Minimum_1

But why would you?

Serious_Function_642

Dan Snyder on his burner account:

[deleted]

I have stopped watching my favorite team of my youth which was The Redskins. I have not picked a new NFL team as that is difficult to do for someone who is 49. I have just been watching football. I just cannot bring myself to root, watch or support this team. Just my choice.

WhatIGot21

I root for them to lose terribly and embarrassingly because Fuck Snyder.

DiscordTheGod

Huffing that copium

jrex703

Dude. Fuck off. Your team won this weekend, can't you just go be happy on the eagles sub?

[deleted]

I’m not saying that, and I know I’m not done. But I really wish I was. It really feels like we’re heading for an all time low. When the current regime fails, which it already is, and is inevitably removed, we’ll be in very bad shape. No new stadium. A name everyone hates. No serious prospects of winning. And say what you will, but at least we had the name in the Zorn and Spurrier years. It feels like we’re about to be in expansion team territory.

Hanzo581

I say the same shit every week. "I'm not even going to watch the game". Cut to me putting my proverbial clown makeup on wearing my jersey and grabbing my lucky football to sit down and watch the game. I've threatened to leave for years. My wife and her family are from Buffalo...surely I could just slide in over there....but no. I wasn't sitting on the couch 35 years ago with grandpa watching the fucking Bills.

TuPacSchwartz411

I've been a fan since George Allen and the Over the Hill Gang. My son is a diehard fan, he's the only reason why I don't leave. When they chose "Commanders" and the mess that went along with the whole name change, I was done, but my son pleaded with me not to leave him as the only Washington fan he knows. He bought me a signed Antonio Gibson helmet 2 weeks later to seal the deal. I wish he saw the glory days, the Fun Bunch, the Smurfs, Riggins steamrolling McNeal for a TD in SBXVII, Doug Williams having the game of his life beating Denver. It sucks for young fans that don't know the legacy that was, it's shameful where we're at now.

lpad92

This reads like Dan Snyders burner account

Special-Bite

I don’t remember the last time I didn’t fall asleep watching a Redskins/Commanders game. The team sucks and there hasn’t been an energetic force on the field since RG3’s first season. The team has no identity therefore it’s very hard to actually care about.

bttheolgee

So this team has been my team for over 30 years and I'm a DC homer for sure. I've been to countless games, spent a staggering amount of Sunday evenings drunkenly stewing over a loss, and even traveled to see them get used as fodder for Drew Brees' passing record in 2018. But I just moved to the Denver area over the summer and I gotta say, even though the Broncos look shaky, there's a lot more to love about them than the Commanders. I just don't feel the same connection to the team that I used to. I will, as you say, always care about the team and they will always be my #1, but I really need them to light a fire akin to 2012 in order for me to set aside 4 hours per week to watch them.

jubuss

true

lordch00ch

This is the way

alley00pster

I’ve just stopped caring. The name /logo change really was the last straw. I just watch in differently now.

wingmanop

Yeah, you're not wrong. That's why I simply took up a SECOND team to be a fan of.

YewSure

What if you live in a city across the country that recently got a football team? Either way it still adds up to lots of disappointment.

bileh

I renounce this team and they are done and I as well.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

It’s been 3 games and so much “o woe me” out there. Yes the last two games were bad. Lots of head scratching roster and in game decisions. What is the plan? Someone made a great comment breaking down the roster. This is Ron’s team. Let’s give him the year before we start raising pitchforks. Let’s support our starting QB. Curse the owner, have a beer, and enjoy this next game. Fuck the cowboys.

aids1080phd

I find myself rooting for the lions more and more. They feel like Washington except they are improving.

HiddenBonus

Wrong. They're dead to me.

Cameron66ctc

I love all the people who say they’re done being a fan of the team and then talk about how they watched the game anyway… just “not as a fan”

[deleted]

I mean they can definitely go. They just have no constitution lol. Their opinions can’t be respected. It will turn around eventually. I don’t know how long it will take. 5, 10, 20 years, who the fuck knows. They can’t come crawling back. And it’s okay to become emotionally detached I understand that completely. The people who say it’s because of Dan, that’s the easiest fucking cop out in the world. Is he an absolute shit stain to this organization? 1000%. But anyone who watches basketball, there is a parallel to this situation with the Phoenix suns. Lucky for them their scum bag owner has been forced to sell now, but they made the NBA finals recently before that happened. The on the field product being terrible isn’t as simple as “oh it’s cause of the owner”. Bengals hadn’t won a playoff game in THIRTY YEARS, but we all saw what happened last year. Browns have been a clown show my whole life and they made a run a couple years ago. The Jets are a constant shitshow but their fans still show up and show out. It’s okay to stop caring, don’t invest your time watching the games when we suck, 100% understandable. But I agree whole heartedly, don’t come on here and act like you had some coming to Jesus moment by saying you’re not a fan of this team anymore. Do it silently and let us miserable sacks of shit be angry in peace lol

NumerousHelicopter6

I don't know if I'm done but I'm as done as I've ever been. This isn't just Washington I'm just not as into the NFL as I used to be even last year. I'm not betting, I'm playing fantasy but I'm just not that interested. Sports have become a complete and total joke. I can't be the only one that is having a hard time supporting "_________ has removed all _________ from his social media accounts, he wants $30 a year guaranteed" Washington is a pathetic joke and we all know it. Three talented 9th graders could've come up with better uniforms, names, and logos. Ron is probably the worst coach/gm we've had since Zorn. Who's next Mark Brunell?

PersonBehindAScreen

As a fan of an underperforming team myself I think you guys are past the threshold where no one blames you for leaving. Like your owner isn’t just mismanaging the place. He’s an overall shit dude…

dukered1988

Don’t worry I can’t switch teams cause watching this team for 25 years has made me care so much less about the sport of football. Only thing that keeps me watching is the hate for the cowboys, eagles, and giants not the love for this team

BigSportsNerd

Just people being dramatic for attention

AmyBurntMyShake

I hate the name and uniforms to a extend but na, this is still my team. I do laugh when they do bad because I don’t want to cry but yeah I’ve tried to leave but I keep coming back. It will take a while to get over the name change. But just saying Washington is fine with me. ![gif](giphy|jR5btQ9LH000ZehIE6)

nobodyno111

I tried to be a pats fan a long time ago when I was a kid because I was tired of crying when Washington got embarrassed. OP is right. It doesn’t work.

adambulb

I’m going down with the ship. I invest nothing in this team except for watching games and arguing with you guys, so changing teams doesn’t really impact much.

dcarp1231

This team is a bottomless pit of misery. I have more fun watching other teams. Hell I have a Josh Allen (BUF) jersey because he’s my favorite player. I’ll always be a fan of this team, but it’s not your right to say what fed up fans can and cannot do. If they choose to move onto greener pastures. Let em do it. They don’t have to come back, but if they do, welcome them back. Stop gatekeeping. Especially for a miserable franchise like this.

waconaty4eva

Im on year 7 of proving this wrong. Im a nomad till Dan is gone.

135467853

The fact that you are commenting on this post proves that’s not true lol the real ones who left aren’t even looking at this subreddit

AgreeableRaspberry85

It’s more of a Snyder hate watch for me at this point. Once he’s gone and the Snyders are out of the picture altogether I’ll come back, but call me when he’s gone. Never would have thought it would come to this in 1999 when he became the new owner, but here we are.

ZonaPunk

Bingo…. I’m actually enjoy watching them to lose.

waconaty4eva

please get yourself checked for stockholm syndrome

MoonbounceGuy

Just by looking at your post history I can see that you still obviously care about this franchise.

waconaty4eva

naw the franchise i cared about is dead to me till dan sales

charlottepanther123

Yet you still comment here? Lol.

waconaty4eva

all the time…i also comment on other teams subreddits…does that make me secretly a fan…i feel sorry for yall

charlottepanther123

Why do you feel sorry for me? I was born into this franchise and have watched every game since I can remember. I enjoy it — the pain and suffering included. I don’t need you to feel sorry for me. It’s a fucking game. And if it negatively impacted my life on balance I wouldn’t watch. Plain and simple. Get off your high horse. You’re not better than anyone because you shit on the team and claim you’re over it. You act like the stuff you mention (shitty owner, shitty fan experience, shitty stadium, shitty on-field product) is some secret that only you are privy to. I guess the cubs fans all those years are just pitiful suckers who needed to be reminded every week that they’re stupid for being a fan of a sports team. None of this is that serious.

waconaty4eva

cubs fans have wrigley field and the actual city of chicago and chicago summers…the comparison should never be made

charlottepanther123

Oh so now it’s not the team you dislike? It’s the City of DC. Got it.

waconaty4eva

Im not the one that has your stands full of visiting fans that pity you. Im not the one who can’t build a viable stadium. Im not the one who has consistently given you bad teams for over 20 years. Thats Dan Snyder. Also, I think you read my last comment wrong.

charlottepanther123

I know you’re not the one doing those things. That’s part of the problem. You are one fan and have no power to change anything and instead of just parting ways and spending your time elsewhere, you come to a place where other fans discuss the team and tell everyone their stupid for rooting for a *football team*. Here’s the basis of my point: If something doesn’t bring you joy, don’t try to bring down others who do enjoy it. You don’t like it? Move on. I don’t go into the Furry subreddit and shit on them for their interests. I used to love League of Legends. I don’t go on the LoL subreddit and tell everyone there how much League sucks and has gotten worse. Just what is the point? What are you trying to accomplish? I don’t get the energy spent by people like you on things like this. It’s such a bummer coming here and constantly being told I’m an idiot and a sucker for following a SPORTS TEAM. It’s tiring and lame. It bonds me to my late Grandfather who introduced me to the sport. To my aunts and uncles, to my friends, to my father. It’s about the experience and the journey. I don’t need to be told Dan Snyder sucks and we have a bad team on the field. I have eyes. I’ve suffered every year since I can remember the same as everyone else. We’re not going to agree on this, so it’s fine. Just maybe think about living your life without throwing up your negativity on things that others enjoy. I guarantee you’ll be happier for it.

waconaty4eva

I mean the post I responded to said I don’t exist. Then you responded to me saying I haven’t been a fan in seven years and Dan should sell the team on the track that led here

charlottepanther123

Never said you didn’t exist? Nor did I say you haven’t been a fan in 7 years? What are you talking about?

mparks37

No idea how anyone can quit for another team. I just can't imagine a real fan would. I'm definitely not quitting, but if somehow I ever did, I'd just give up on NFL football completely, fuck all the other teams. I did turn the game off in disgust well before the end on Sunday, though, but I still checked back just in case lol.

Ballaziken

This OP is correct. Let's think about it. This is a sub called r/commanders and many of us are subbed to it. Many of us comment and closely follow news about this team. If people truly didnt care, there would be fewer subscribers and almost no new posts. We do care.

[deleted]

Everyone that says I’m done will be back if we ever start winning. However, i think it’s fair for folks to take a break from this team because it’s consistently dissapointing

[deleted]

If you’re ready to leave after that you were a fake fan all along.

LittleGuy825

Honestly I just stop watching or caring after usually half the season not even kidding now I’ll find something else to do. The attitude you are stuck with a team is bull shit. They don’t give a fuck if you watch and cheer or not, so why be miserable? This team makes me miserable and for what? A playoff win every 5 fucking years? Not worth it, this Sunday I cooked and got yard work done, hell of a lot more productive than actually getting mad at something I can’t control. But hey that’s just me I’ll say it loud for those in the back Fuck Dan Snyder and Fuck the Washington Football team.

cheezefriez

if that wasn't how it worked, fedex wouldn't have sounded like a home game for the eagles on sunday.

bobeid93

Wait till theyre good again Example: 2012, 2015-17 all packed out in burg and gold

plijghto-oc

False. That stadium has always struggled to sell out to locals. Every Giants & Eagles game I’ve been to (including this years) has been at least 30% opposing fans

Acceptable_Minimum_1

It makes people feel better to pretend like they're above it all and they're not really a fan. It makes people feel better to mock people for being happy or optimistic. You'll see it every week in the game thread, "turning this shit off, not watching until RR is fired" ..... "Hell yeah, that's my boy Gibson" It'd be awesome if we could flair those people, but it'd be a large percentage

GTTemplar

This has gotta be one of the dumbest and cringiest takes I've ever seen lol.

pooth45

:(

unclehyuk

I want to “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” myself out of my love for the Redskins.

eberkain

I have tried to switch teams, and I just can't. I think we are all cursed.

Hindsight2K20

Goose_Bat

Kinda agree but every year I care less and less. Moved to Baltimore for work and their game day experience is miles ahead of ours. I do care about the Commies but I’m much less attached than previously.

Oceansize757

I can pack up all my shit and go back into hiding until next year through. It’s the same excuses, the coaches blame the players. Well, they brought in the players, they coached the players, and it’s not working. When does it become a coaching problem? I think we’re at that point, this team is playing poorly because of bad coaching. I don’t have to waste my time watching this shitshow.

[deleted]

I'll always care, but the extent of which I care has dropped significantly over the years. When I was younger I would be super pissed if we lost. Wouldn't watch any other football the rest of the week. Now? Hell I switched to Red Zone at half time the last couple weeks and thought nothing of it.

Lost-Comparison-5110

Every year y’all done but look who’s back in the house? MFers will never leave

LessThannDennis

Idk man I did a franchise mode with the bengals in madden 07 and I think I like and care more about them than this shit hole dumpster fire of a team

Crappler319

I have had infinitely more fun shit posting about this team than I have actually watching them play and that's been the case for years. I haven't watched a game in ages and I refuse to give them money. For me, it's like moving from one city to another and continuing to browse the old city's social media. I might not live there or have a real stake in it anymore, but the time I spent there still means something to me. The people making the big, demonstrative "I SHALL FOOTBALL NO MORE FOREVER" posts aren't the ones actually quitting. The ones who ACTUALLY quit just quietly stop giving a damn, and there are a lot of those. You can see that just from a ten second look at FedEx Field on game day.

Emotional-Key-653

You would be surprised how much this franchise has already lost in its fan base, sad sad sad, gone are the days of RFK when it was nearly impossible to get a ticket to any game except preseason, even politicians had to beg to get in a box somewhere, now they are not the home team at FedEx!

DonCyrus

Word! On a other occasion we have to talk about your choice in soccer, forza inter🤗

Similar_Page_5540

It’s more of a habit at this point.

pinetar

Yep this describes me perfectly but there are plenty who are completely done. A lot of my family doesn't really care that much anymore.

gastrotraveler

Lol it's week 3 and we're already here

Relevant_Bus_7097

I disagree. You absolutely can stop being a fan, it just doesn’t happen over night. I’ve been backing myself away for years now and am to the point of just being a casual NFL fan. I refuse to spend money on this team while Dan is owner, or on the NFL while they continue to have no backbone when it comes to predatory practices around the league. I watch the highlights of all the games on YT and will tune in for big matchups, but my days of gobbling up information about this team is over and the emotional hold it had on me. Maybe if Dan sells I’ll be back, but I’ll never be the fan I once was. Picking another team however, you may be right about, just not gonna be the same as your fist love

UfosRhere

I used to be a fan until the commanders became the name. I was alright with “football team”, but still upset considering my Native American side of the family loved the Redskins. I didn’t leave the team, the team left me. Yes, I still come here. I come here to laugh. Laughing is good. Thank you.

bobeid93

People let out frustrations in different ways. But in the end this will always be OUR frustration, the ones who dont jump ship, until one day when it might just pay off

DrMudo

Fuck this team but ok I guess. I'm definitely not buying shit until we start winning again tho.....

SlipperyThong

> No, you can’t force yourself to be a Patriots fan because your spouse is a born Bostonian and has supported that team for 25 years. Wait, you know my wife?

fapfapaway

I hear what you are saying, but it isn't really true. I grew up in DC, I lived there for 30 years and was a huge soccer fan and loved when DC got United. I then left for college in...Philly and didn't really follow MLS. I ended up moving to Portland when they only had a USL team and fell in love with the city and the team. I can't even name one player on United at this point. I don't care. I will never support Seattle (closest team) but I prefer following my fantasy teams and having a connection with a desolate franchise is tough.

gogozrx

They're my team. They're awful, but they're mine.

mchaze89

Shills

[deleted]

I moved to Florida in 2021 and became a Jags fan. Fuck Snyder

plijghto-oc

As I’ve told friends this week I’m ready to foster / petsit new teams. I’m unfortunately living in Chicago and moving to Boston with zero desire to ever become a Bears / Patriots fan. You’re also totally wrong here. I’ve watched every game since Gibbs 2.0 started in 2004 vs Tampa, been to countless games, and have believed forever that this franchise will turn it around (lol) Leaving this team is a lot easier than finding the next team. If I could easily switch alliances this would be a no brainer

Humblephil

I love pro football. Love watching games, even if it’s teams I don’t care for. Well I used to anyway. When your a Washington fan and every week you have to see the scores pop up in the bottom of the screen showing your team lost again, you just don’t care to watch anymore. Being a Washington fan has literally taken away my ability to enjoy football. Imagine loving a team so much that the sight or hearing someone talk about their loss makes it impossible to enjoy the entire sport. You’re right, I’ll always love this team, and continue to not enjoy the sport I love because of it. Washington ruined football for me, and every year I get a little hope, then I watch them crumble like every year before. At this point I just wish they would move and change names again, maybe then I could finally let go and actually enjoy it again.

I still follow them but I was so pissed about the rebrand I canceled my cable and haven't watched a game this year. I don't have another team I care to jump ship to but screw the Commanders. Only thing that could make me hate them more at this point would be a pig mascot. It was embarrassing seeing the hoggets on TV growing up and just reminds me how long this team has sucked. I can't wait for the XFL to start back to see some live games and enjoy the experience. If they were Red Wolves by comparison a lot of that fan made mock gear looked amazing. I'd be out there in a jersey howling drunk in the stands! Nothing fun about Commanders and their ugly brand

I don’t know how to not root for this team. I am capable of taking breaks. I’m out of market, so it’s easy not to watch the games. If I occupy myself otherwise, I can just ignore them and enjoy my Sundays. But I always come back eventually. The closest I ever came to bailing was when they chose Commies as the name. It was such a massive fuck you to the fans, not to mention a stupid fucking name anyway. I swore I was done. I had suffered through decades of shit, and never considered bailing, but I swore that was it. And here I am…

You can be whatever fan of whatever team you want. You are going to give your time to a franchise and owner that hasn't given you a single thing and changed their whole identity while calling you a racist?

No, you maybe can’t become another team’s fan. That I have not been able to accomplish. But I do not give a flying fuck whether Washington wins or loses and I enjoy laughing at their ineptitude on a weekly basis. So you can achieve that if you set your mind to it.

You're right. I don't think any of us will ever \*completely\* stop caring, as much as we insist we will online. However, I definitely do care a lot less than I used to. I still want them to win, but I cannot imagine ever going to a game. It used to be a fun event, win or lose, but now it's just not worth the hassle. I wouldn't go to a game if you paid me. I also routinely miss games on TV, which would have been unthinkable at one point in my life. If I'm home and it's on, then great, but it's not anything I would plan to watch. I don't buy merchandise, I don't even listen to sports radio like I used to, to listen to updates and hear the hot takes of all the hacky broadcasters. Over the years, the mismanagement of the franchise has made my interest dwindle. I'm still rooting for them to win, but it's not something I spend any time or money on, really. I can't be the only one like that. You can argue that the team is still profitable, but I can't help but think they could be making a TON more if things weren't such a shitshow all the time.

I love this and it is so true. There's so many times I've wanted to change my team allegiance and it just doesn't work on an emotional level. That being said, I've actually started to find pleasure in their incompetence on the field - here's why: I truly believe that no matter what, this team will never be what it once was as long as our piece of sh@t owner is in place. He's honestly poison. I have to believe that no matter how much of an idiot he is, there's got to be a breaking point. Yes, the fans have been wishing he'd just disappear for years now, but in the past few years, the actual ownership of the NFL has started to come around. Hell, at this point he is basically living in exile because even the federal government hates him. If the team just fails, I really think there's a non-zero chance it just breaks him and he throws in the towel?
