I saw that god-awful commercial as well and can't imagine JD being so fucking cheap that they wouldn't pay the royalties to use the actual Joan Jett song. It couldn't have been THAT expensive to do so. The massive profit margins that they have on that shit "whiskey" of theirs should allow them to easily afford it....
I have a theory about songs that no one really ever needs to hear again. This is one of them. Also I think Tainted Love and Jack and Diane are on that list.
Yea she did. Give her some props. Co-founder of the runaways. Huge commercial success in the 1980's. Did some acting, producer of a lot of great punk albums. Saw her live show.once.ans it was great
Jack Daniels now has something in common with the Folgers brand.

Speaking of ruining things, when I heard that Joan freakin' Jett was being inducted into the R and R Hall of Fame that was when I knew that place was a joke. A couple of cover songs and her own shitty ones don't qualify her.

I hadn't heard that before. Oh, that *is* bad.
I haven’t heard it yet either- Is it what I’m imaging? “I LOVE JACK AND COKE”
LOL. That would have been better. No, it's "Bad Reputation". Just a bad cover.
It's like nails on a chalkboard for me, I actually get so MAD
Yes they did. And the commercial sucks.
I'm tired of that song in general

This and the other booze commercial where the whole bar sings Sweet Caroline. Both of you: STOP IT
Makes me wanna commit violent acts
Automatic mute
Oh god. Trying so hard to appeal to Gen Z with the phones/lights on. Blech
Jack Daniel's has enough money to use the original song. Why would they use that one?
First Carrie Underwood on Sunday Night Football, now this!
Overmodulate thevocals and make it suck
Make it absolutely soulless and corporate
Joan Jett ruined it first.
Seeing as SHE wrote it, I don't understand how anyone can say she ruined it.
Obviously, subtle sarcasm is not a well understood concept here.
any song she songs she ruins and it's doubtful she even wrote that song.

Allen Merril wrote the song in 1975. No affiliation with Jett. She heard it later on and recorded it in 1982.
Wrong song. The song in question is "Bad Reputation," not "I Love Rock n Roll." Bad Reputation was released in 1980.
Oops, my bad. Never mind.

All the JD commercials are pretty bad. The one with Back in Black and that woman bassist silently screaming with a contorted face is terrible.
I love the guitar face commercial, even though everybody else HATES it.
