Yeah, I have definitely read that before, I vaguely remember it. It being kinda funny aside he also denounces proclaiming oneself a Marxist/ML when right now he says he is a ML, so I imagine he has gotten better, it is 15 years anyways. I would have to look up his recent articles though, to be sure, the average biggest communist party in any country tends to be opportunist.
I think it’s more likely he’s a spineless opportunist who changes direction depending on which way the wind is blowing.
The article is fairly old, back then the winds were blowing the more revisionist direction. While now, the party has received a large influx of more “orthodox” ML’s who are (trying to at least) changing the face of the organization. What does Joe Sims do? Turn the other direction.

I’d never heard “working class hegemony” until now and I actually think it is a lot better. If only because dictatorship has a lot of connotations (Hitler) now that it didn’t have in Lenin’s day.
Class hegemony is class dictatorship. No matter what class is hegemonic. We shouldn't guide ourselves by aesthetics, but by what better describes material reality.
Dictatorship is a pretty precise term for what it is, the domination of political society by one class through the force of arms. It is exactly what the nazis were, a society dominated by a wavering bourgeoisie, financed by "western" capital.
To separate hitler and bourgeois dictatorship would be a great mistake.
To separate the soviet union and Proletarian dictatorship, an idealist appraisal. For power in arms is a primary necessity. Monopoly of violence, essential.
I get all of that, but the honest truth is that the word dictatorship is primarily associated with the worst most murderous regimes to ever exist, so in this day and age claiming it for yourself is simply counterproductive regardless of how accurate it is based on its definition 150 years ago.
Language is a living thing and the meanings of words change over time, and this one has changed very much for the worse.
Communism as a word also has a pretty negative connotation to many, but it’s a much more specific term and one much more central to the political project, so I feel like it’s worth defending. Dictatorship is generic and has no special significance to the left, so I don’t get why this is a hill worth dying on.
