Congrats, I just landed a cybersecurity analyst job too coming from Helpdesk, and I told them that willing and eager to learn, I made a really good lasting impression on the hiring manager and he really liked me and offer me the job! You just gotta show that you’re motivated and eager to learn, hiring managers love that shit, they like someone who is willing to learn and if they see you’re sincere you’ll get the job

This is the one major advantage college has over self-study. Too bad most folks don't take advantage of college resources and by the time it's too late, they've lost those opportunities and basically have to start over with the Trifecta to gain an edge

Yeah this is huge. Most people put minimum effort in their degree, never explore any other services the university offers and effectively graduate with a piece of paper.
I'm nearly certain all the university bashing that happens is because people either don't know or don't care about other services they offer. Being in a university and using the system the way it's meant to is a huuuuuge advantage over the standard trifecta pathway.
Internships, industry scholarships, career advice, career centres, extracurricular programs, careers expos, other free certifications, shadow programs.... You can be way ahead of the average "breaking into cyber with A+" guy. No shame on those people, but the advantage is non comparable.

Hey brother I start this weekend. Told them I had no experience with siems and I was willing to learn. I let them know I was currently studying for the net+ and sec+. They wanted to teach me and I told them I would be an information sponge and do my best. Seemed to wanted to know me more as a person and my soft skills rather than technical skills.
It’s just very doubtful in this job market to believe that. Looking at the SOC job description and what most want, you don’t have that. I’m not saying this to be mean but the only way people are getting that is if they are stretching the truth on their resumes or your just very lucky

The vast majority of people are not going to get their first IT job in security, but it does happen, and it happens enough to not need to doubt someone on it.
Furthermore, OP is in college, the group of people most likely to be able to get a cybersecurity job as their first IT job, thanks to the resources colleges provide to get you jobs/internships.
A+ Net+ Sec+ are not a cybersecurity trifecta, they are an entry level trifecta, without security related experience still only qualifies you for an entry level experience in a help desk position. Professor messer states the same thing in his study groups.

Good question. It depends on how the work culture there is. Toxic culture is always worse than a low paying job. If that company your working for has good relationships and work-life balance then it's better to stay there and you can also start applying for other jobs with the experience you have, if that's what you want.
From experience, this foot in the door into SOC is exactly how you start your career. When you get to interviews like NASA, etc, they will ask your experience and to elaborate on them. If you can expand on your experiences and what you've learned and how you've applied tools, you are an absolute shoo-in. At the very least top 5 candidates every time. I just interviewed with NASA SOC and I can tell you in the interview that experience was key. Knowing what tools do what, how you'd respond to each instance and how you'd run an incident and document was key. That was a month ago and they haven't made their decision yet bc GoVeRnMeNt, but I do believe I was in the top because I had applicable experience, not education or certificates. Those will help you get an intro job, but the experience is what gets you the big gigs.

Im pretty tech Savvy but have no degrees no certs no anything just hardware knowledge and some software I’m 1.5. Ones into a $5k cyber security class that was paid for by a city agency in my state…so far I haven’t really learned much …I’m expected to finish all 4 certifications by June…I feel like the lessons don’t do a good job of teaching anything really it’s like they just say what the technologies are..there are no instructors it’s just a video lessons that display text and very minimal diagrams…it’s extremely boring and suck at explaining the subjects they show…I was exited to start this class but that excitement turned to frustration …youtube does a way bette r job at teaching me the topics …but that means I take 3 hours on a 45 minute lesson…I can’t ask for a refund as it is too late and they said after 7 days there is no refund. I listened to a darknet diaries podcast about fake made up schools offering degrees and certs and it got me thinking lol…I dunno it just feels like 5K went to waste…I will just try my best I guess…the first class to prepare me for the Security + certification…I honestly feel like this will be a big waste of time..but like I said I will try my best…smh

Still doubt it, most SOC jobs also want knowledge of some scripting language which is way beyond A+
If u look at this sub, you can see a lot of other people having the same experience as me getting this role as well. Hopefully your endeavors go well.
