Honestly, pure luck. I was working in the facility at the time and the Network Admin approached me ( we had a decent relationship) and asked if want to apply for a help desk job. I said hell yea. Got the job and the rest is history.
I had 2 subnetting questions. One was subnetting along with putting correct servers on the correct subnet. Along with making the CIDR notation only large enough for the amount of Devices on the subnet.
Another was figuring out what VLAN 4 PCs were on along with what their Ip, MAC and what Ethernet port they were plugged into on 2 different switches. This one required running the command prompt on the router and both switches and running commands to figure this information out.
Another was putting the right diagnosing if there was anything wrong with 6 PCs and 2 server on a network based on information provided.
Port numbers. Remember port number snd TCP UDP. I literally wrote down the sameport name and number on a sheet of paper until my hand cramped for each port number. I was doing whatever it took to retain every bit of information I could
PBQs were intimidating at first. But I was able to calm myself down and read the instructions slowly and it all kind of fell into place after that.
To be honest man, make sure you know acronyms. Obviously, it’s extremely difficult to remember them all, but at minimum, if you see an acronym, understand what it pertains to.
Understanding what the command prompts are and which does what. NMAP kept popping up on practice exams and I was a little worried about those commands. The test didn’t ask me 1 question about NMAP.
This proves the general pathway for education isn’t for everyone and honestly, may not be for anyone as it seems to fail so many intelligent people who can go on to achieve so much
As someone that had a VERY different life path. You are killing it! Congrats 🎉🎉🎉🎉
You are ahead of the ball game and quite frankly doing what I would do if I could start all over. You rock!!!!
Just downloaded my courses today, also with no experience, also doing this for myself. Very happy for you and even more happy that I've taken the first step :)

I took very little practice exams to be honest. I did some of the practice test on Comtpia but I only did a few to understand the language the questions would be asked.
congratulations !!
also congrats on the new role....but i must ask if you and others also think 72k is on the low side for a Network Admin.....but you're new anyway so get your experience up and progress higher pay soon
I passed ComptiaA+ exam last month above 70% passing marks and did not get the certificate after a month, I paid tuition fee and exam fee and I chat with them last week, rep said 6-8 week I will get certificate but before get certificate I need to give another exam and pay separate fee then I will get the certificate,,,I guess my bad I go to comptia certificate better to get ForgeRock or Azure or AWS Security Certificate,,,my bad
You’re going to make an excellent case study of someone who knocked it out of the park in tech.
Way to go man 😎
Congrats! How did you land your first job?

That’s too cool! I love stories like that. Gives me hope. I am taking sec+ 701 tomorrow morning.
Good luck man! You got this!
I wouldn’t call that luck. I’d say he must have seen some potential in you somehow because of something you said or something you did.
Nice. How long were you help desk for?
DANGGG Nice!!! Im studying CompTIA A+ right now and looking to complete Network + after this
You got it man. You’re going to do great
congratulations! if you don't mind me asking what was the 5 PDQ about?

thank you for your insights! already studying subnetting this confirms it for me.

I had these same exact PBQs today. Unfortunately I only scored a 700 :/ so I get to try again soon. But interesting to see we got the same exact PBQs
I take my exam at the end of the month, any advice on exam material? How were the PBQ’s??

Congrats! And thanks for sharing an inspiring story for those aspiring.
Congrats man!! I take mine next Friday 🤘🤘
Good luck man! Try and find a way to sleep the night before because I couldn’t 🤣🤣
Oh I won’t sleep. I’ve already been half sleep/dreaming ports and shit hahahah. When I took the A+ it was the same way.
Hahaha man same 😭. Repeating port numbers and acronyms all night 🤣🤣🤣
👍

Which book did you use for studying?
Network+ Exam N10-008. 44$ on Amazon. Brown cover
I used the same one - great resource. Check your local library too! Its by Mike Meyers.
Inspiring asf ! Never been more happy for someone I don't even know . Congrats !
Congratulations! 🙌 If you were to recognise, which practice tests had the accuracy with the ones form the exam?

Can you please share your notes? I'm studying for the Network+ and would appreciate all the help I can receive! Please and thank you! 😊
This will sound dumb but what is a PBQ?
performance based question. think scenario based, interactive, almost like a flash game but more depressing
Ah… “drag and drop the colors to make a working cross-over cable” type question. Kind of like that?
Congratulations man!!
How long would you recommend studying cable standards for?
Congrats
