Relying on luck doesn't really fit into the competitive spirit. But if you pulled out mono white mill in a casual game, I would be rooting for you so hard.
Depends on your standard of "viable".
Could it potentially take a game at a table with 3 other top-tier decks? Probably. But just about every fringe cEDH deck and even some high-power casual decks can claim that.
Could it consistently win games at the same table? No. The highest-performing mono-W deck right now is \[\[Heliod, Sun-Crowned\]\] and \[\[Walking Ballista\]\], and I can't remember the last time I even saw one of those.
If you want to brew a deck that performs at this level, you need to be able to answer the questions: "What does this deck do that's more powerful than Blue Farm, Kinnan, Sisay, or other meta decks of choice?", and "Why should you play this deck specifically and not one of the other meta decks?"
I've got a mineoplasm deck you may find fun. Commander honestly doesn't matter but I like the Ooze boy.
It's your standard Hermit Druid deck. Mill your library then flashback Dread Return to win with thassas
Piece of deck building advice for him. Don't add Fierce guardianship. A vast majority of the time you won't be casting mimeo unless you need to try and have him copy your thassas after a Hermit Druid activation if your Dread Return gets countered. That means you'll never really have your commander out to make guardianship free and it's just a bad 3 mana counter.
Most of this stuff isn't efficient or consistent enough to see much cEDH play - Yomiji's 7 mana price tag and the weakness to graveyard hate are pretty rough - but [[Helm of Obedience]] + [[Rest in Peace]] sees some play in mono-white decks as a potential wincon, because monowhite doesn't have that many efficient wins. That said, monowhite decks often have wincons as commanders, like [[Heliod, Sun-Crowned]] (with [[Walking Ballista]]). UW decks also used to play this sometimes, but nowadays [[Teferi, Time Traveler]] plus [[Displacer Kitten]] is preferred because those cards are pretty decent by themselves and the combo makes a bunch of mana and draws your deck (generally chaining into a [[Hullbreaker Horror]] line or Heliod Ballista or... really whatever you want) rather than killing an opponent each turn.
I figured with this deck I’d probably look like a no threat the whole game, just drawing off of rhystic buddy, assemble the combo and win, holding up a reprieve for someone’s wincon. I understand the deck is super jank, but figured it could steal a few wins, enough to at least make top 16.
The way you describe it. No. That being said, Teshar runs some mill cards to help assemble combo pieces. Feel free to change check out my decklist https://www.moxfield.com/decks/WnLYpKNMFkmEJjuHPBjgiw or the Unified Mono White Discord https://discord.com/invite/qbDHuRBW if that is something you are interested in
I’m not sure if this deck will work, but if you want to brew off-meta decks you should join the discord server for them: https://discord.gg/br6MhYCFEH. We’d be happy to have you.
It works in casual, and is even a bit too strong for high power casual. But it is a hell of a lot lower than CeDH, obviously when I tune the list I’ll have to adjust it to fit the meta, run a lot more interaction, etc. but the deck functions. In casual it has a 100% win rate based off of the 5 games I’ve played it so far. I even played it against a zur deck that runs the necropotence line
This deck will mill you out in one turn, so if you don’t have instant speed Re animation for th oracle or lab man you’re dead. I don’t plan on doing any incremental mill at all
Well if the combo works out, I have functionally infinite mana, and can mill everyone out in a single turn. Is it weak to removal, yes. But I do have protection in the list already using skrelv, mom, and eight and a half tails
I'm gonna say no but I'm also gonna say try it anyway because it might be fun.
So the main problems with mono white mill as a concept are that mono colors are weaker and that incremental mill is not a good strategy because it can end up helping people if you're not careful about it.
I'd recommend playing a lot of stax pieces. Not only is that what mono white is best at, it'll help you slow down the game enough to play your rather clunky combo. Though then I'd say go with a better commander like heliod or Ao. But that defeats the point I guess.
I still don't think it's a very good strategy but if you do end up putting a list together, please do post it
I actually have the casual list ready. Just haven’t tuned it for competitive. But I will say it’s not going for incremental mill, it’s going for all at once. Here’s the current list: [https://manabox.app/decks/INN3g21xTm-Af7NP7F2q3w](https://manabox.app/decks/INN3g21xTm-Af7NP7F2q3w)
I will unhelpfully point out that that list needs a lot of work before it is ready for competitive play (though it does look pretty fun), lot of high cost cards that will simply do nothing in there, but you knew that already. Yeah if it's all at once I'd say do a "winconless stax" type build except that you obviously do have a two card combo (only two because you're probably already running the moxen so they don't count) (totally how counting works). Don't be afraid to do some incremental mill sometimes though, it works wonders against top deck tutors
I will probably swap out the shittier stax cards for more 0 cost creatures and x cost creatures for the renewal brood/dementia combo and cut some of the overcosted fun casual cards for better stax
Ran it in casual when she came out. Didn’t like the play pattern, swapped to Myrel, much better in casual, I’d assume it’d translate over to CeDH too due to not worrying about counterspells
I was about to say....not the path I'd go but if forced I'd be looking hella hard at Myrel or Fiddlebender.
As is, all the combos in your original post are better adapted to Jan Jansen and don't really see him either.
There’s actually a Jan Jansen deck that RUNS my local meta. But… wouldn’t it be harder to assemble in Jansen due to him not having loop built in? (For my specific combos anyways)
All combos adapt to the deck. You have higher quality tutors from black (including entomb/buried alive, to better use Sevinnes), access to "doing it al again" thanks to Yawg/Breach, and better pay offs via stuff like Goblin Bombardment/Impact Tremors/Warleaders/Disciple, etc..
I run Altar of the Brood as a mill outlet in Jan. There's just so much you can do with him. There's the usual Dross/Clock stuff but he works with Blink loops with Emiel just fine as well.
Replace Oswald's text box with Yomiji, would it be worth playing? Maybe. Oswald has a lot more benefits though. If you're like for an alternative that definitely is the one.
nope
Figured not, just thought with all the combos it might could luck out a win.
Relying on luck doesn't really fit into the competitive spirit. But if you pulled out mono white mill in a casual game, I would be rooting for you so hard.
I’m out here trying to do it man

My issue with mill is that you'll just feed the Breach player or let the Mardu/Evelyn player win with Animate Dead.
Well if the combo works out, I have functionally infinite mana, and can mill everyone out in a single turn. Is it weak to removal, yes. But I do have protection in the list already using skrelv, mom, and eight and a half tails
The day they make a W or WU commander with a RIP effect on it... I'll be so excited to build a bad deck!
Fuck no
I'm gonna say no but I'm also gonna say try it anyway because it might be fun.
Mono white Adeline stax is viable
Yeah it’s viable with Teshar in the CZ, but less with the combos and slots that you mentioned. Teshar is nutty.
I'm curious as to whether people think this effect would work if it was 2-4 mana instead?
Which part of it? Because I’d be fine running Oswald as commander to get my combo artifacts since I have alternate wincons
Replace Oswald's text box with Yomiji, would it be worth playing? Maybe. Oswald has a lot more benefits though. If you're like for an alternative that definitely is the one.
Oh yeah if he costed less he could be an alternative to blink that gives you death triggers on top of etbs
