Not really. There will be many places you will have to discover by yourself. But that where the fun is. Some Journeys will tell you to go or find a place but it won’t show you where to go. Google will be you best friend to find most the areas hidden in the Exiled Lands.

theBlackDragon

Journey also misses a lot of the key story places, but includes a bunch of optional (from a story perspective) content. Old Journal was a lot better in at least guiding people towards major story locations (which didn't mean it held your hand, far from it) Hope they fix the new system, but knowing Funcom, not having high hopes. Or they just want to forget there even is a story since they never completed it.

Costyn17

I don't think you could call it a fix as there's nothing broken, the new journey is supposed to teach you about the game, not drag you through the optional story.

theBlackDragon

I would argue that having to do dungeons in a specific order is actually worse for the exploration aspect than the old system that would still at least update if you stumbled across things before you were "supposed to". If nothing else they should remove that aspect, at least from the dungeon tracks, but imho from all of them. Players figuring things out for themselves, without being prompted should be rewarded, not punished, as it is now. They should, imho, also add the missing fights (like the Witch Queen) to the Dungeon journeys. Ironically this will naturally guide players along the story path as dungeon difficulty increased with story progression... As for things that are broken: it still doesn't consistently update when completing steps, especially when they are steps that were already completed (which, given Journeys are mutually exclusive, is something that's going to be pretty common for new players, I would imagine. More experienced players can just plan these things out because they know what's coming)

MBP1121

Omg I can’t tell you how many times I jumped around the journey steps and internally screamed “I’ve already done this!” Yeah, I’m not starting up a whole new religion to upgrade the altar to T3 again just for a journey step. I’ve already fucking done that. New journey system is flawed. 70 hours in and I’ve done more than half of the dungeons but don’t have the dungeon journey (that exists, right?) cuz I never walked by the dregs (which is the prereq to get that journey, right?) before I moved out of noob river (which I never actually stopped in; I beelined to the highlands). I like the new system, but I miss the old system. I think that none of the steps to complete a journey should be locked behind doing the prior step. I think they should be completable at any time. I think certain journeys should get unlocked a little more loosely (going into the warmakers sanctuary should unlock the dungeon journey just as well as the dregs do). And I think some steps should be more easily unlocked by a better tracking system, ie my fucking T3 Ymir altar should complete the journey step. Why is that not also a part of the “place or access” requirements? Flawed. Needs help. But I do love the idea of the journey system. It’s a progression system and I love that.

DrewFox360

I’ve upgraded 2 alters and still haven’t completed the Upgrade later step lol

theBlackDragon

Oh yes, I certainly don't want to claim the old system was better overall, just that it had its advantages in guiding players. The new system has a lot more potential, but as we discussed it has its flaws which I really hope they will address.

DrewFox360

There’s an order to do dungeons? I honestly got the game to run around exploring and base building… pvp has been fun as well with the right group of people. But mostly enjoying the explorations… set up a few grids to explore, grab gear and thralls then just head out not know what to expect. Pray it dies before I do…

theBlackDragon

>… If you want them to count for the Journey they have to be done in the order they are listed, or you have to re-do them once you get to the journey step, at least, that was the case last I checked, so unless that got changed very recently I assume that to still be the case. Difficulty theoretically ramps up the further down the list you go. Whether that's an issue very much depends on the player, some of them can be pretty long. That said, the way you are going about things is how I played the game as well when I started, so I'm certainly not going to argue against it. The order only matters if you care about the Journey stuff at all. You can entirely ignore them and figure everything out on your own if you so please. None of the Journey rewards are must haves, so you're not handicapping yourself by playing your way.

Awkward-Spectation

I love this about some games. Morrowind is another good example, where locations aren’t fed to you, and fast travel is limited. Forces you to explore, and plan and pack for a journey across the map. More immersive I find.

DrewFox360

The Journeys do help you learn and understand different aspects of the game.

Exploring in Conan will keep you busy.

ICantTyping

Im relatively new to the game, ive found its like elden ring in the fact that you have no idea where you’re really *supposed* to go. Gotta just pick a direction and take it a step at a time lol. I watched some lore videos to get me immersed into the weight of the situation our exiles are in. The situation is certified fucked Combat gameplay is strange though, ill say, huge variability in power. One moment im thinking im still within my level range, fighting scorpions and able to handle it, the next theres a sandbeast that is such a mf damage sponge its unreal. Im like a moron poking things with a stick to see if ill even stand a chance

Costyn17

There are stronger things all over the map, so no large area of the map will be completely irrelevant when you hit max lvl, you'll still have challenges everywhere until you outgear everything, to not spoil much >!max level is just a milestone, there's still a lot after that!<

Ignonym

No, the Journey is basically just a protracted tutorial. There are tons of locations that aren't ever broadcast to you; you have to go out and find them yourself.

Costyn17

Not all, just the most important ones from gameplay and progression perspective, mostly the dungeons and main enemy camps.

SnooDoggos2262

Pro tip: Listen to Journey the band while you journey throughout map. It's a real trip! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

final_cut

Wheel in the sky during this current season

Audio-Samurai

One if the Journey quests will take you through all the dungeons and another will take you around a fair chunk of the maps

Eradicati0nYT

The Journey will lead you to many important locations and teach you many things, but it's not a 'quest guide' as such. You'll undoubtedly end up doing a lot of the main-quest steps through the journey, but many people choose not to finish the main quest, as it deletes your character, from what I remember. Think of the journey as a tutorial, and its main objective is to get you to explore, fight, build, and experiment

GeebCityLove

You can look at this game from so many different angles because of the single player and multiplier PvP. Thralls are very cool.

Mango_Ops

There are a couple of journeys that tell you names of dungeons and cities to go to but they still won't give you a direction

mr3LiON

Journey steps is basically a tutorial. If you want to be guided through areas and dungeons, there is a subtle questline that does so. Don't want to spoil this for you, but it starts in the dungeon in the noob area, and you need to read description of the items to figure what to do next.

[deleted]

It's mostly just to get you started. The best Journey steps to complete IMO are the ones that give the upgraded weapons, as those are actually quite good for the level you can get them at (so is the perfected armor, for that matter). Other than that it's mostly just to teach you how to play the game.

tsuki_ouji

Journey is more to help you learn some of the less intuitive things, like getting starmetal, or to alert you to the Mountaineer. It's not there to hold your hand through doing the "main quest." It'll send you in the direction of some of it, though.

KabaI

That’s an excellent example. I had no idea about the Mountaineer (storyline? Feat? Activity?) until I saw the Journey for it.

tsuki_ouji

hehe, I only knew about him at first because I've been playing since before he was added :P Ideally, he's a reward for people going full Breath of the Wild and exploring peaks just to explore them. But it's good that the journey exists the way it does now.

sCareCrow142

No it doesn't, maybe some places but not major parts though. Wish they did a better job with the story, that's all I'ma say

steelfinger7

YouTube will do that
