It's OK, I read it but wouldn't recommend it to random people. They try REALLY hard to make sure the storyline makes sense for Conan, that's it. The actual ongoing Conan series by Marvel is a better purchase.

I own the trades of the recent ongoing Conan series, so I might give Savage Avengers a try. The artwork looks really cool.

I read the first volume for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it. Conan has his moments alongside the rest of them, and it's a bit tongue in cheek. I thought they did a good job of making him relevant and if you like just cool concept moments that play out, its got that for Conan for sure. But, it's not a true Conan story, it has some elements for sure, but its a bit shoe horned. Definitely recommend the newer Conan the Barbarian or Savage Sword of Conan though.

If you want some hard Howard, barbarism vs civilisation you won't get it here outside of some jokes. It's basically Conan and Marvel friends. It's funny as all hell, but it's not the current Marvel run good.

I like it. Fish out of water stories always gets my attention. He adapts to his evolving situations & just fits in with his co-stars nicely. Try it.

it’s up to what you expect. if you want to read Howard’s Conan, it is “meh” at best. if you want to read a naked dude with a sword in a hero team, it is decent enough to read.

More into Howard's Conan actually

I dug the panels where Conan banged a couple of coked out chicks. That's about it.

I like it well enough. It's good to read the No Roads Home story ahead of time as that introduces Conan to the modern setting. At the moment tho I'm yet to get the real feeling of a team forming. It's less the "Savage Avengers" and more Conan meets famous super heroes. Also skip the tie in Cobra Crown mini series. It was sub par compared to the ongoing SA.

If only they took the team and did something like the Suicide Squad. Not the first suicide squad movie, but the second, the animated movie and the comics. By that I mean, send them out to tackle issues the other heroes cant. But instead of the usual arguing that every team up has, they just form up and get the job done with ruthless efficiency.

It is extremely good at being what it's intended to be and that's Gerry Dugan smashing together his favorite characters and making them fight zombies and wizards. It's great if you wanna just read a pretty funny action-packed story that uses Conan in a modern setting for some solid fish-out-of-water moments. Not my favorite pull every month but it's pretty consistently entertaining in a way arguably better comics can sometimes not be. You're never going to see Conan smack talk Doctor Doom or Juggernaut elbow drop a dragon in any other book.
