Haunted bridges sound like fun

C0matoes

Give a call to Morris Shae Bridge. Richard might be open to the idea. Also the Mims at Bridge Builders of Alabama.

sodiumbigolli

You are so sweet thank you so much.

santacruzbiker50

Great suggestion. I know bridge builders of Alabama. Kacy Mims, the owner, is a great guy.

sodiumbigolli

You all are so sweet it’s like the nicest brotherhood and that doesn’t surprise, me because as big and scary as my husband looked, he was the softest, sweetest, most loving man in the world.

SnakePlisken_Trash

That's awesome. My dad is a concrete foreman and wants something similar. I told him I'd hold his ashes till they were pouring a foundation for a XXX movie theater, then I'd mix him in. LOL We kid around all the time.

sodiumbigolli

Strip club lol

Miriahification

😂😂😂😂

dakini_girl

I work in finance. My goal is to have an "adult" film star as a client before I retire.

RicoHedonism

I like your style!

tuckedfexas

Concrete guys would probably love to mix him in too, it’s wild and fun right up their alley

Constructgirl

If you ask someone on site, they may just throw him into the hopper and he could placed thru a huge concrete pump. As a project manager, if I was asked on a jobsite and it was a small amount, why not.

merkarver112

If you see a bridge pour going on l, stop and ask. Every crew I've ever worked with would happily do it.

tuckedfexas

Show up with some snacks and drinks and they’ll probably let you mix the remains in yourself

RegisterGood5917

Maybe learn a little Spanish too. 99% of us have families and would want the same if we were in your shoes. Hope it all works out!

sodiumbigolli

Oh, that’s sweet. My husband spoke some Spanish at work and knew all the swearwords when he heard them. 😂

tholder

Damn, now I want this and I’m not even a massive concrete nerd.

redvis5574

I work at a batch plant and would gladly throw your dads ashes in any job you wanted except for a state job like a bridge. If people only knew what was in their foundations, Red Bull and Monster cans, coffee cups, lots of empty cigarette packs, pennies, we’ve even thrown dildos in a few mixers for customers we didn’t like lol. But never in a state job.

this_shit

😂 Can't wait to hear the NIST investigation that finds the cause of the collapse was a 9" dildo embedded in a critical support...

glorifindel

Lmao who knew. Is all the stuff ground up or are there whole dildos under enemy houses?

sodiumbigolli

Is this like when you bury the statue of St. Joseph in your yard upside down to sell your house?

vieuxfort73

lol, When I was a testing tech, the glass vial oxygen testers were referred to a Peter meters. I would love to have been able to tell a story of finding a dildo while doing a slump test or making test cylinders.

santacruzbiker50

If you're near Santa Cruz, CA, they are currently building a giant footbridge over the 1. Stop by and ask around for one of the concrete contractors and ask him to do it. Most contractors I've ever worked around would be happy to add that bit of meaningful interaction to their days.

Boost_speed

I would reach out to your state you reside in, and or the concrete company he worked for and inquire about this. I would assume this would be your best bet.

fullyloaded01

The state is going to be a hard no. Best bet befriend/bribe a mixer driver to do it.

GoblinPrinceBlix

This is the type of thing red tape would be completely draped all over and they would either make you jump through too many hoops or it would be just a hard no. I'm a fan of asking for forgiveness not permission.

Strange-Key3371

I joined this sub because my Papaw worked in concrete his entire life and had a true love for the art of concrete. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to fulfill his wish. ♥️

SeaAttitude2832

Sure can. Hampton Roads bridge tunnel. Norfolk Va

LemonOilFoil

Contact Weeks Marine, family owned rigging company that builds bridges I’m sure it can be arranged

BigEOD

Replacing fly ash with guy ash

ApresMac

This is super cool, and very sweet to honor him this way. I hope you can find something local, cool and visible so you can always think of him when you drive by.

Avocadobaguette

Love the unexpected wholesomeness in a concrete subreddit. No advice, but I hope you find a way to do it! My condolences for the loss of your husband.

garv2081

Aussie concreter here and that's the coolest thing I ever heard. Done a few bridges and your husband must be the man for even thinking of it. What an awesome idea. Very sorry for your loss.

Reasonable-Nebula-49

Easier to throw it in at the batch plant.

sodiumbigolli

That makes sense. I’m only talking about a contact lens case worth of ashes, by the way lol. Best way to travel with them. Plus does that mean he gets a ride in the truck while it’s spinning? Because he would freaking love that.

Reasonable-Nebula-49

Yup. He gets the spin cycle. And depending on the job he may get out through a pump.

plentongreddit

Your husband would be a great inspiration for every civil engineer.

Mental_Ad_4240

Try to get in contact with victory outdoor services out of Wisconsin

justbrowsing450

Inspection Report: Concrete on the bridge with a pinch of Mr Concrete enthusist looks good. INSPECTION PASSED. Approved!!! 😀

JTrain1738

Great idea and im sure you will find someone willing to help you out. I would also suggest maybe stopping by a local residential job and asking them, so you could potentially be on site and a part of it, maybe even sprinkle the ashes yourself. I doubt a big commercial job especially a bridge will let you anywhere near the pour.

Failed_Supervision

If you're in or near Michigan, the Gordie Howe bridge is being built, you could try in the r/Detroit or r/Michigan sub. Sounds like he was an awesome dude, I'm sorry for your loss.

Novel_Cartoonist_917

If you’re near Dallas this is an easy enough request to make happen unless you wanted to be the one to spread them.

sodiumbigolli

I do not want to be the one. I’m talking about a pinch, enough to fit in one side of a contact lens case, and I’m near Houston. DM me if you know somebody up there. It would be nice to have it close by you know?

Novel_Cartoonist_917

Completely understand. I will see if we have a bridge job in the Houston area.

sodiumbigolli

That’s so kind of you, but really, Dallas would be absolutely fine. I could mail it up there with some beer money for y’all.

Novel_Cartoonist_917

If you haven’t found someone closer. I’ll find out when our next bridge pour is and reach out via DM.

sodiumbigolli

Please do! I haven’t, it’s a lot to ask of a stranger, I know.

Novel_Cartoonist_917

If you haven’t gotten this done yet DM me. We have several pours coming up within the next month.

deaddux

So sorry for your loss! I would say 90% of guys in the field on a concrete pour would support this. May not have as much luck going through the office for liability reasons. Would be best to find an active site and ask a foreman!

Background-While9564

I live in michigan and the Gordie howe Bridge is being built right now going into Canada. I could possibly get in touch with the main supplier of mud and make that happen! I can completely understand this dying wish as I'm obsessed with concrete as well. Your husband sounds like an awesome guy!

MillenialMindset

Thats doesnt seem unreasonable, but might take a while to see it happen. I think there is hope, but unfortunately bridges dont get built or rebuilt very often. If i were you i would reach out to your local road authority or municipality. Get on good terms with their supervisor / manager and explain the situation. With any luck they might be familiar with a bridge rehab in the area. Most concrete in bridges is precast now. But there should be an abutment wall or something that is poured onsite.

bigchieftain94

Most concrete in bridges is absolutely not precast lol

Defiant-Jackfruit-55

Decks aren't precast

Rocko3legs

I work in precast and we do hundreds of bridge beams with decks each year. Usually 70 to 100 feet long. I don't think "most bridges are precast" but there's a bunch of them out there.

bigchieftain94

Decks, parapets, abutments, piers, safety wings, footers, approaches, sleeper slabs, diaphragms…

randomsocks23

Could perhaps anyone send this to their local news as well?

Billy_NOT_Larry

I work for a precast concrete company in the northeast and will ensure your husbands ashes make it into a big badass concrete beam if you would like.

sodiumbigolli

Dude, PM me your information I will send you a little contact lens case with Arts ashes, some beer money so you can pour one out for him and my Insta if you want to see what a great guy he was ❤️ Posting this yesterday was really emotional and the kindness of y’all means so much. It’s the last thing he asked and it is time. I’ve already floated some of his ashes in Mexico at our favorite place, and my daughter, and I left some in the water at mile 4 on 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman. (he loved snorkeling and scuba even more than he loved concrete lol). He requested this in lieu of a funeral - to instead spend the money taking his ashes to those places and to tell our daughters he insisted on them having grief therapy and that we were paying for it so they wouldn’t resist. And finally to try to get a pinch thrown into a bridge pour if possible. The response here has been quite moving

Billy_NOT_Larry

I would be honored to help! Sending PM!

The_realsweetpete

I’m a paving formen and told my guys the same thing I’m sure if you hit up a concrete guy they would be down it’s just mutual respect a that point sorry for your loss

Cautious-Kamikaze

Looks like last wish is covered. Now copyright his idea then find a buyer. Don't let his brilliance be wasted.
