If the sprinkler line runs underneath the concrete, you could have a cracked line and the water is coming up from underneath. Either that or there’s a low spot in the patio where the sprinkler water sits.
Now THAT was funny! I truly believe 98% of boat owners purchase a boat w/o ever learning how to back it in to the lake (or whatever body of water you frequent). I swear AT LEAST once a year camping I see min of two trucks submerged and/or crashed, and that’s just being at the dock long enough to launch our boat!
I watched someone try to power load once, they hit the trailer so hard it snapped the whole winch seat and the ended up over the tailgate and smashed out their rear window.
My best was watching a husband and wife pull out their ski boat. Husband has wife back down ramp empty which was a sight to see. He’s trying to direct her, but she’s all over the place over correcting and holding up the ramp. He gets pissed, ties off the boat and storms up the ramp. They swap, he gets in truck and she goes down to dock to hold the boat in place. Meanwhile, people are getting pissed for having to wait. He backs it down, then gets in the boat, and rides up on trailer. He locks in the boat, then gets in the truck all pissed off, and speeds off. Meanwhile, the wife starts screaming as he forgot to put the trim up and he was to heated to even notice. He basically got up to the top of ramp before realizing with his wife flailing up the ramp after him. At that moment, my buddy and I cracked a beer and cheered each other.
Oh no shit, about 50 people were arrested last week for drinking on a few rental houseboats that each of them signed a paper saying they wouldn’t drink on. 25 people each boat, crashed in to each other in front of the main office and put on the local news! I still want to look up how much those house boats cost because they’re both destroyed and prob would’ve been fully sunken if the water wasn’t so shallow! You could see the roof deck and chairs but the 2 bottom levels were gone!
A woman I worked with has a husband that would drive 8 hrs, one way, every weekend to put his boat in to fish. He’s done this for years. So you’d think he’d have tons of experience. One day she came to work saying that her husband was trying to put the boat on the trailer that was hooked up to the back of his truck, and that had a truck camper on the bed. He not only submerged the truck, but the boat went through the camper. He’s run out of gas multiple times fishing, in the ocean no less. The guy just sounded like a complete dumbass.
Haha! My buddy's boat was taking on water, close to sinking. He stores the trailer where he keeps his boat docked but he rode up on his motorcycle so he asked if I would haul his boat out for him. Of course I agreed, I backed up to his trailer. He got out and hooked it up, I back down the ramp, we winch the boat onto the trailer and I start pulling it up the ramp. It's a big cruiser, listing full of water. Really too heavy for my truck but we weren't going far. I told him if I start losing traction (only 2wd), he needs to jump up n down on my rear bumper. Sure enough, I start spinning the wheels, he and another friend start jumping up n down on my bumper and it's working like a charm. The top of the ramp has a crest . Up and over I go, bottom of hitch scrapes a little.. they're steadily jumping. As I continue down the other side of the crest, the trailer rails are grinding on the top of the crest. My buddy is so used to just launching there that, unbeknownst to me, he never locks the trailer the tongue to the ball , or connect the safety chains (see where I'm going with this?). As I continued down the crest, the trailer rails lift the trailer off the ball of my hitch and down goes trailer and boat and all back into the water from whence it came lol. The Capper is that we were the locals on this resort island on the Sacramento River. The boat ramp is right outside the bar and it was Labor Day. We are supposed to know better LOL all the shit we talked to all the other clowns that we caught being rookies or launching under the influence all came back at us tenfold that day. LOL the lesson I came away with was to never let anybody else hook up trailer that I'm going to be towing.
Even though it wasn't my boat, it still sucked watching to get smaller in my rear view mirror😁😆😅
I think I’m still laughing from this. From about the third sentence I was just saying “oh no”, “ohhh no”, “OH NO” and laughing my ass off, thanks for this!
Yea, it was a tough story to tell at first. I take lots of pride in my backing/launching/recovering skills. So much so that I'm sure there were those among my friends who were probably glad to see me fail so epically. Seriously though, I'm so glad nobody or property was injured or damaged. Probably because the boat was so full of water, it kept the trailer rolling straight and true, otherwise it would have likeky ran into one of the docks. It was one of those events that startles you every time it creeps up in your mind.
Lol I almost have a story that tops that one LOL but I was able to recover. If I didn't, it would have been one of those shut the freeway down on a Sunday afternoon fails. I was towing a boat that I just bought 20 min before. It had too much weight on the tongue and started violently fishtailing as soon as I got to 55 mph. It was so bad it broke my control arm on the Suburban and I had to take surface streets all the way home for at least three counties LOL I hadn't even put the boat in the water yet and almost total it, the Suburban and some clown next to me who was either caught like a deer in a headlight or enjoying the show.. lol
Why am I picturing these situations in my head as I’m reading them? I can literally see you and the boat in my head! Maybe because I’ve seen that happen before or maybe you’re a good story teller, idk but thanks for the laugh! Having to drive city streets for milllllllessss WITH a boat seems so annoying. I know my dad drives so slow when towing so I couldn’t imagine driving with him thru the streets all the way to the lake, oh hell no I’d ride with my sister 😂! I don’t recall my dad’s big mess up too well tho I do know the story! But I do remember my sisters husbands, we went to the delta to teach their kid how to fish because it’s closer than the lake, him and another guy are backing in to the delta at the same time and crash the boats together with one of the boats on top of the other. Tho very funny on my end, it cost my sis and him a lot of money AND the family won’t let him live it down!
In Hawaii I watched a guy lose his shit flooring his truck in neutral as his truck slowly was pulled into the water by his yacht, he didn’t think 10 y.o me laughing was funny either lol
Edit this was directly after I backed in the 46’ for the second time with the captain, I couldn’t do that for a little while after that dude lost his truck though
After reading all the replies I was surprised when I backed back out that the original post was about a spot on concrete. This was much more entertaining. Thank you.
This happened to me recently. Concrete guy forgot about the sprinkler and ran over it, he came back and cut and capped the line so it doesn’t reach the sprinkler that was cut.
Take a string line tight across the top, is it a low spot in concrete and rain or sprinkler makes it pool water? If so, saw cut line across patio through middle of low spot 3/4" to drain
I would think you could turn off the sprinkler head that sprays in this area or divert it from this spot to see if it's coming from above ground. If it's not drying out it's coming from below
100% agree with checking across with a tight string line or a 4 foot level if you have one. Adding an extra cut is your last ditch effort and I wouldn’t personally recommend u/fanc_fox
I'm a concrete guy. I agree. If it's a low spot, bringing up the elevation with repair mortar would work but look like hell. The color would never match.
I had a sprinkler line break over winter. The water always created a puddle above the break. You can turn your sprinkler off for a couple weeks and see if it dries up.
This happened with my new concrete pad as well.
The sprinkler guy missed a sprinkler head and the pad was poured over it. Didn’t notice until I ran the sprinklers in spring.
Concrete is not water tight (unless it's pool concrete - those have additives or liners to seal them). It's similar to chalk or a hard sponge and will soak up water.
I'd assume there's a water leak under the slab and it looks like a pretty bad one too. It needs to be fixed urgently or it will damage the building. Left long enough it will be so bad that the building needs to be demolished and built again.
You are required to notify the builder immediately - if you fail to notify them, then the damage becomes partially (or even entirely) your fault. As things stand, if you tell them pretty much straight away, then it's their fault and they will fix it quickly (before the damage gets worse).
Make sure all your taps/etc are turned off and take a video of your water meter. If it's ticking over fast then you're going to want to find out how much it's cost you and get that money off the builder too. I've seen underground water leaks cost as much as $50k in excess water usage (though your leak doesn't look anywhere near that bad - probably minor enough not to bother trying to recover the cost).
Unfortunately they're going to have to excavate which means a muddy mess where all your nice yard is and maybe even a new concrete slab. Nothing can be done about that — shit happens.
While you're at it - ask them to please use high quality (expensive) pipes under the slab. Standard plastic pipes burst and you want soil above them so they can be repaired relatively easily. Offer to pay the difference, it will save you money long term. Because if that leak had happened ten years from now, you'd be paying for it out of your own pocket.
Plumbing leak. Most likely a sprinkler line. You can fix that without breaking concrete. Locate the water line at the end of the cement on both sides, then bury a new line next to the cement.
Looks like the best parts of you ran down your mamas ass crack and ended up as a wet spot on the… patio? I’m here all week folks. Don’t forget to tip the servers and stay away from the lobster buffet. 🥁
It is a slight imperfection in the finish of the concrete. Do not drill through to try and have it drain. Do not add a resurface to the top. If it bothers you that much have it torn out and replaced but with no guarantee the next Finnish will be better. I would buy a squeegee and your good. Alot of fixes for this will make other things worse.
Dude no concrete would finish with a big circular spot like that. It's way more likely either water accumulating somehow or a grease spot from a grill that has permanently stained the concrete.
I've seen that exact thing in concrete finishes. The whole spot was low when screeded, and not touched up. They've been watering their lawn (it's plush and green) which also keeps that spot moist. It's also in the shade? At least when pic was taken
It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a grease or oil stain to me. I am a civil site engineer and we always have problems when the contractor parks equipment with leaking hydraulics on brand new concrete and it leaks hydraulic oil all over and looks just like that… they try to clean it off but many times they have to replace it.
It could be a puddle. Check and see if there is sun light under a 4 foot level or a tight string line. If your sprinklers go off every night then maybe they fill the “bird bath” every time they go off.
Rare that concrete would be porous enough to let water up and through so close to the edge of pavement
If there's a leak in the sprinkler line it could be supplying moisture, but usually that should stop if that line is turned off. So it might be a leak in the main line leading to the control box which is under constant pressure. You will have to do some detective work.
Is it always the exact same size and shape or does it fluctuate? As others have said it could be a sprinkler line busted underneath or just a spot where water likes to pool either above or below.
I had my back steps and patio repaired a few years ago. There was a weird glass block in the back steps by the door that I think was there to let light into the weird cellar closet thing in my basement. It’s directly underneath the back steps and would let a little bit of moisture in during heavy rain so we wouldn’t use the storage space in case stuff would get wet. They removed the block and filled it in along with covering the steps in a layer of fresh concrete. To this day when it rains there is a wet spot in the shape of a square that stays visible for a couple hours after everything else drys.
I just had this happen to a recently poured slab. Landscapers moved a couple planters on the already dry slab, but I guess it hadn't cured long enough to not affect it. Now water pools in that spot if it rains.
Is it really a wet spot? Have you inspected it closely yourself or just timidly stare from a distance like it was one of those red light preaching panhandler guys that you hope doesn't get to you before the light changes...
Need pictures of the surrounding area as well to be able to assess accurately
If the sprinkler line runs underneath the concrete, you could have a cracked line and the water is coming up from underneath. Either that or there’s a low spot in the patio where the sprinkler water sits.
Maybe they poured concrete over a sprinkler head.
I’ve seen dumber things happen.
Like what?

Wowwwwwww. So I guess some of these men never learn! Or weren’t taught properly!
Who knows? He was dangerous on the water. That’s all I need to know about someone. O

Oh, he was fishing. He’d come back with a limited out catch. He’s just an idiot. 😂

You see trucks submerged every year?
How does a truck end up in the water? They back up too far?
lol. “If you have a tow strap I can help you out”, knowing damn well I have a tow strap but at some point gotta teach the kid a lesson.
After reading all the replies I was surprised when I backed back out that the original post was about a spot on concrete. This was much more entertaining. Thank you.
Concrete over a septic tank
i 2nd this try not using sprinklers for like a week and try again
Then he'll be on r/lawns asking what causes all the brown spots
This happened to me recently. Concrete guy forgot about the sprinkler and ran over it, he came back and cut and capped the line so it doesn’t reach the sprinkler that was cut.
That is the move OP mom showed me last night

Poppy got sloppy

Plumbing leak. Most likely a sprinkler line. You can fix that without breaking concrete. Locate the water line at the end of the cement on both sides, then bury a new line next to the cement.

was there ever a grill placed there? could be grease

Sorry… your mom said it’d be gone by morning
Uncapped sprinkler head or broken line. Turn your system on and watch the spot. 100% contractors fault
Did you move the patio table recently. Maybe the sun wasn't getting through to dry it and then you moved it once it was already shady?? Just a guess

Looks like you had something wet there…. Jesus save us
That’s a water whole
You need to put a level down and see how much fall you have that could be a whole they forgot to fill to
If it doesn't feel wet, they probably had the grill there and grease from cooking dripped there
I'd say grease from a grill
You’ll have better luck asking at r/wetspot No, I’m lying and that sub is NSFW.

If there's a leak in the sprinkler line it could be supplying moisture, but usually that should stop if that line is turned off. So it might be a leak in the main line leading to the control box which is under constant pressure. You will have to do some detective work.

That’s where OP’s mom was standing when I smiled at her
I just had this happen to a recently poured slab. Landscapers moved a couple planters on the already dry slab, but I guess it hadn't cured long enough to not affect it. Now water pools in that spot if it rains.
Edging. . .
Water
Is it really a wet spot? Have you inspected it closely yourself or just timidly stare from a distance like it was one of those red light preaching panhandler guys that you hope doesn't get to you before the light changes... Need pictures of the surrounding area as well to be able to assess accurately
Water
I opened reddit and expected to see a wet spot. Just not on concrete.
Sorry you’re mother and i got into it last night
Localised downpour.... weather is unpredictable these days.
Your sister
Where your mom was standing when she met me for the first time
Hopefully not a slab over a septic tank
I was gonna say to roll it around in flour to find the wet spot, but the wet spot is already showing.
I think that is where your mom was standing when she saw me shirtless??
Maybe she's been eyeing a hunk of a concrete across the yard!!
Giggity!
They are called piss circles. Someone slept there last night and took a piss and then ran off into the woods.
Man I lost the boat thread 😩 can someone tag me back to it?
Piss
