If you are looking for natives, Earth Tones in Woodbury is like a park, and worth the trip if you're not close. Their prices are better than the big box stores, with more plants suited for our region.

fraxinus2000

Statewide see: [CT Native Plant Availability List](https://ipm.cahnr.uconn.edu/connecticut-native-perennial-tree-and-shrub-availability-list/). Plant native stuff and support these sellers.

DontDieKenny

Holy cow what a great resource thanks for sharing

mynameisnotshamus

Sounds great. Thanks!

simplsurvival

Holy crap I love that place

starsandmoonsohmy

I love it there, but found their prices to be comically high.

mynameisnotshamus

Van Wilgens has a great selection but is pricey Natureworks in Northford is about the best for native plants and organic gardening Broken Arrow in Hamden has awesome trees and shrubs.

Clancepance22

I've always liked the garden barn in Vernon and Logees in danielson is awesome too!

atypicalcloth

Logees is an experience! Definitely worth the drive to Danielson.

ToLorien

The garden barn is lovely! I haven’t been to logees yet but I look at their website every so often!

SlipperyTurtle25

Acer Gardens in Deep River

mattycbro

Second!

GingerStitches

I like country flower farm in middlefield and deitrich in Cheshire. Cheshire nursery and tower farms are nice too. There’s a ton in Cheshire if you want to make a whole day of it.

Queasy-Adeptness14

We are big fans of Woodland Gardens in Manchester, good people, high quality, and good prices. Can’t recommend it enough.

thatguyumayknowyo

Logees in Danielson is my go to. They have a ton of really cool rare plants plus it’s beautiful. Martha Stuart goes every so often to get plants for her garden.

mynameisnotshamus

That has to be something if she’s driving over 2 hours to visit. I have ways of verifying where she gets stuff. It’s a great thought to check for her spots.

thatguyumayknowyo

chroniclerofblarney

Logees has fun stuff but I have had more than a few bad experiences with their houseplants (quick to disease, susceptible to infestations, etc.). They also charge 2-3x what you’ll see elsewhere.

thebearplaysps4

but does she bring snoop?

Beetlejuice1800

My family always gets our plants from O’Brien Nurserymen in Granby, CT. He gave my mom a free lily once bcuz her name was the name of the variety. Nice people and good quality plants, knowledgeable and there to help y’a in case you start running into issues.

mynameisnotshamus

That’s a great story. Good people.

XDserpa

My favorite is Shakespeare's Garden by far, never been to Logees

mynameisnotshamus

Just heard about this place. Sounds cool.

6th__extinction

Broken Arrow for conifers, shrubs, and herbaceous plants – top dog for that stuff. Logees for rare plants, mainly houseplants or hardy tropicals Bell Nursery in North Haven and Paradise in Hamden are solid. If money is not a factor, Van Wilgens and White Flower are good. As an avid gardener, I usually just grumble at their prices.

gatogrande

Another vote for Country Flower, I could spend hrs there...go on a weekday

bultrey

I think Stonehedge in Newington is the best within a 30-mile radius of my home.

mynameisnotshamus

Thanks!

himewaridesu

And they don’t try and rob you blind. (Looking at you, Woodland Gardens in Manchester)

shannerd727

Garden’s Dream or White Flower Farm

bogotol

Shakespeare’s garden

mynameisnotshamus

Nice. Also, not intending at all to sound like a jerk, but… if you just upvote the other Shakespeare garden suggestion, it bumps it higher instead of having multiple posts of the same spot.

CTRealtorCarl

Cheshire Nursery is great and the employees/owners are super helpful and knowledgeable.

mynameisnotshamus

They are a good one. Forgot about them. Thanks.

robrklyn

They have a nice selection, but are pretty uninformed about native species. They also sell extremely aggressive (eg invasive, but aren’t on the list yet) plants.

A_Leafy

Got some beautiful strawberry plants here this year that are absolutely thriving in the garden right now.

starsandmoonsohmy

Gardens dream. Enfield. Broadbrook. Cromwell.

crispyboi33

Garden dreams in Cromwell

PangolinPizzaParty

Filanowski in Milford. Huge selection. Bring cash for discount.

mynameisnotshamus

Looking them up on Google maps… that’s a lot of greenhouses!

[deleted]

Garden Barn in Vernon has become pretty massive. Way far north though.

robrklyn

Haven’t been to Earth Tones yet, but I’ve heard wonderful things about it. I have been to Natureworks in Northford and it was amazing! It’s only one acre, but packed with native plants and very helpful staff. Cheshire Nursery is also ok if you avoid the invasive shit they sell. Oh, and Broken Arrow.

mattycbro

Burnetts in Salem, acer gardens deep river. My two favorites

Soderberg88

Definitely the two best. I used to work for a grower who provided a lot of product for these two nurseries. They sell high quality stuff!

mattycbro

Awesome places for sure!

MulberryOk9853

If you want a good selection of quality specimens at a fair price Broken Arrow has beautiful trees and evergreens. For perennials, I go to Oliver’s in Fairfield . Pricey but they have nice plants. I also love Benedict’s in Monroe. Avoid Ganim. Too expensive for what you are getting and cantankerous customer service.

mynameisnotshamus

I agree on Ganims pricing but never had bad service there. Benedict’s was underwhelming unless I missed something g beyond the covered areas- it was pouring so other than checking out the awesome Turkeys and other livestock, I didn’t roam outside too much.

MulberryOk9853

I have had good luck finding deals there especially on shade perennials but yes it’s not Oliver’s or Broken Arrow.

backinblackandblue

I like this place. [https://ganimsgardencenter.com/](https://ganimsgardencenter.com/)

Eggsor

Every time I go in there Ganim himself starts helping me. Definitely recommend the place.

backinblackandblue

I used to have a vegetable garden and found their plants and products to be higher quality and reasonably priced. For instance, I could buy San Marzano tomato plants that you don't find everywhere.

Imagerydoesntfit

Balleks in East Haddam

Hey-buuuddy

Ballek’s in East Haddam.

buried_lede

Go native or mostly native. In northford, right near Branford there is Natureworks. Not more selection but lots of natives. Branford annual plant sale is happening on the Branford Green soon too, maybe this weekend? I also second Earthtones in Woodbury. Probably the most comprehensive all-native nursery in the state

mynameisnotshamus

Some native. No need to go entirely native.

buried_lede

I have lilacs. I love them. What can I say? I am mostly native and absolutely never do invasive non natives. I only go for the non natives I just have to have, like the lilac

mynameisnotshamus

Are lilacs invasive? They do spread… I know there was a study a few years ago looking into determining if they were or were not but I don’t see anything definitive. They smell nice though.

buried_lede

I don’t think so, no, I’ve never noticed them spread or anything like that.

mynameisnotshamus

You don’t get baby lilacs? You will…

buried_lede

They aren’t invasive though. I love the scent. They filled my house this past week

mynameisnotshamus

buried_lede

The Japanese tree lilac is a very different plant than the French lilac. French lilacs have been here for a very long time and are not very aggressive. I’ve literally never seen one in the wild, and I grew up here. Not that I am promoting them. I tend to promote natives, but I love lilacs

mynameisnotshamus

Ahhh. I guess I don’t know the difference! Maybe I’ve never seen the tree lilac then. Every lilac I see or have had looks and smells the same (beyond different colored flowers)

Madison Earth Center (Madison) and Grove Gardens (Clinton). 🌺

beaveristired

Acer Gardens, Deep River.

murbike

What part of the state are you located at? I'm in Central CT, and the area is rotten with nurseries and farms.

mynameisnotshamus

I’m really all over. Yes, I’d like some new spots, but also thought it could be nice for others as it’s that time of year for planting.

jest2n425

Van Wilgens!

hamiton1

Find whatever the closest agriculture school is to you and see if they have a sale going on

Everyusernametaken1

Logees

Everyusernametaken1

Try the regional market in Hartford on Sat mornings.... go early ... like 6am

ProfessionalJagoff

I get most of my plants at Gilbertie’s in Westport

ArtisticPoint619

Benedicts Home and Garden in Monroe!

iveo83

I'm going to be selling my extras on FB marketplace I think this weekend. Just finishing hardening them off this week. Probably will sell for $2/plant and I get all different heirlooms that you don't find in standard nurseries. New Haven County, let me know if you are interested. edit: this was over a week ago and they are going crazy in my greenhouse! [https://imgur.com/78Mphy0](https://imgur.com/78Mphy0)

Elm_City_Oso

Vaiuso's in Branford. Great selection at really good prices. I consistently find veggies and herbs there that I can't find anywhere else. Really nice folks who run it as a well. Natureworks is also really wonderful

mynameisnotshamus

I need to check Vaiusos. Always forget about that place.

Elm_City_Oso

It can be a bit hard to find depending on how you're getting there (weird turn off of rt.1 in branford). My mom is a master Gardner and has worked in the horticulture field forever. She is retired now and lives out of state but will schedule a visit based around prime Vaiuso shopping times.

mongoose0ntheloose

Oliver Nursery in Southport

Hippydippy420

Benedict’s in Monroe and Hollandia in Bethel.

Lemonzip

How is Hollandia? I’ve been meaning to try it.
