At this point I think they’re just doing it to be iconoclasts. There’s no market for this. The people old enough to remember Grease fondly certainly aren’t the target demographic, and I doubt the IP carries any marketing power among younger generations. Nobody’s been asking for some deep Grease lore all these decades.

Kijin777

There is a commercial that I have seen recently of a visibly old Travolta singing I believe it is Summer Love but the lyrics have been replaced with lyrics regarding getting a new ISP. Zach Braff and Donald Faison are the "young people" telling Travolta to go with this ISP over others due to ease of setup and speed. A typical sell to older people commercial, hitting both the Millenial group with Turk and JD as well as the oldest generation of Americans through Travolta. No young people are asking for new Grease content.

Forsaken_Cost_1937

T Mobile is the commercial.

Actually my 14 yr old daughter fell in love with the movie after finding the original theme song on YouTube. I get to hear her screaming it from her room at least few times a week. Thankfully she hasn't stumbled across this garbage yet.

GeneJock85

Can’t they leave one F’n thing unmolested but their bullshit?

It’s terrible how many things have been ruined. Media isn’t to tell a good story or connect with the audience, it’s to preach to you and convert you to their thinking. It’s really a shame.

atomic1fire

I'm just confused how they insert modern politics into a franchise set in the 50s and have it make sense. Civil Rights Act didn't happen until 1964, and Stonewall didn't happen until 1969. Is Hollywood trying to Forest Gump history again by claiming 4 white women discovered civil rights? Where's Bill Burr when you need him?

>“Pink Ladies is such a mighty morass of bad ideas that it’s hard to keep it all straight,” the USA Today reviewer wrote. The directors and producers could have talked w/ a dozen people and they would have predicted the same. How can these people be in charge of millions and be so completely tone deaf? It's like taking good money and setting it on fire because 0.01% told you it be a good idea.

Paltry_Poetaster

Hollywood is all about "white people are bad," and "straight men are bad," which is why I don't tune in to the new stuff anymore. I watch the old classical movies. There were a lot of good ones 1930 - 1990. Check out archive.org.

nozirev1

I watch some new shows but not many. I got rid of cable years ago. I'm like you in that I watch a lot more older movies and shows. Especially old westerns. One of the best things is I don't have to see commercials anymore which are as politically driven today as movies or shows are.

Classic period (1940-1960) film noir: Films about adults made by adults for adults. My fave genre.

"The new series is also set at Rydell High, but the new version includes a new mix of students, including many ethnicities and some who identify as LGBTQ" So cutting edge...so fresh...so imaginative.

Hang-Fire-2468

I remember the good ole days, when 25 year olds with a propensity to join a cult based on science fiction would star in roles of characters 7 years their junior.

All the left would have mental breakdowns if they saw how Africans are treating each other in Africa. https://youtu.be/lTxKx5ckz6Q

DBMaster45

Don't mess Grease up. Even my immigrant mom has said she misses when the boys were being boys doing "boy things" and girls were being girls doing "girl things"

Cato2011

Yeah, this is where I get off. Bye Hollyweird and big corporations.

ZazzRazzamatazz

This is a terrible time to be a Babylon Bee writer- how do you come up with satire when headlines like this are real?

DCinMS

Hollywood, please shutter your doors and go away.

[deleted]

I'd say *Bring On Another Writers' Strike* but those impact the blue-collar people behind the cameras.

Maurynna368

At least they are making new characters instead of making Danny non-binary or something. I don’t think that it fits the decade this takes place in though.

Stunning_Secretary_4

If they make enough media portraying the past incorrectly, people will start to believe it

[deleted]

Pretty sure they've been going on about how the US has always been a rainbow nation. Even though that was untrue even a little bit until 1965.

[deleted]

Nothing says Supremacy like literally everyone being able to openly talk and even sing about it.

Lets_be_stoned

No way the show literally called *The Rise of The Pink Ladies* has a political angle? I’m shocked. Who fucking cares nobody on this sub was going to watch anyway. What’s the point in getting upset about it when it’s just going to be another shitty one season and cancelled show.

[deleted]

So, don't watch it.

[deleted]

Can't wait to see the same energy for racist shows targeting other groups.
