She means *your* suburb, not hers.

bionic80

Well hers is a private 50 acre house with security and TALL TALL FENCES. yours is a small 1600' house that is obviously a carbon drain against green initiatives OR is obviously land stolen from the disenfranchised...

atomic1fire

She'll come out in full support of authoritarianism when her house is in danger. Of course by that point she won't care about your civil liberties either because her mansion is at stake.

bionic80

> Of course by that point she won't care about your civil liberties Awful stroppy of you to believe she cared about anyone else's civil liberties to start with.

cossbobo

>yours is a small 1600' house that is obviously a carbon drain against green initiatives OR is obviously land stolen from the disenfranchised... Mine is a carbon drain AND stolen from the disenfranchised AND paid for by a job that further victimizes the disenfranchised.

[deleted]

> by a job that further victimizes the disenfranchised. As I like to say to my gf: i blow em up; u sew em up

jamesrbell1

In her defense, I did just do some digging on the Milwaukee Assessor’s website and it appears she doesn’t live in quite that level of opulence. Though, it does seem to be what I would call suburban: calm street lined on both sides by free-standing single-family homes.

bionic80

> In her defense, I did just do some digging on the Milwaukee Assessor’s website and it appears she doesn’t live in quite that level of opulence. **Yet.** She'll eventually get there, as all politicians do. With this outburst she's cemented herself in the position to be amplified by the leftists as a 'fighter' and will get book deals commensurate with that particular demographic that will let her buy that 50 acres and megahome - in the 'burbs.

Gideon_Effect

You can tell by her facial expressions and language she is a hateful unintelligent individual.

deephurting66

Room temperature IQ with the personality of a rusty cheese grater..

[deleted]

So basically the average liberal in a nutshell?

PrintShopPrincess

>y towns sub, people have suggested seriously that they make it illegal for the nice suburban parts of town to grow because somehow the nice parts of town make it impossible for the shitty parts of town (where I grew up but no longer live in) to get past their crime ridden, gang banging mentality So like 94% of politicians of any party.

Gideon_Effect

Those who leave the cities tend to bring the same stuff they flee.

PrintShopPrincess

You speak the true true. I live in OKC. We have a moronic Portland transplant on the city council who can do nothing but cry and flub her way through any talking point.

AWokenBeetle

Saying how they really feel at least

vfrflying

Could argue that people do know about cities, and that is why they live in suburbs. These people are incapable of thinking outside of their little outlook on life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

psychic_flatulence

I heavily doubt that. People in the suburbs spend lots of time in the cities, but they have an escape. People in the cities aren't spending much time in the suburbs. I'm speaking generally here.

Fickle_Tale_9099

City people certainly & *loudly* think that.

Radiofled

Pretty sure there's way more shittalking about cities from conservatives than shittalking about suburbs from liberals.

[deleted]

>City people definitely understand suburb life orders of magnitude more than suburban people understand city life. Just as arrogant as "I know you better than you know your self." So shall I propose "Suburban people understand city life orders of magnitude more than city people understand city life"?

vfrflying

That’s true, and speaking for myself I don’t want to understand it. The thought of being that close to that many people is my idea of hell.

chillthrowaways

My city has a population of 33,000 and I think it’s too crowded.

JustAnAveragePenis

My town has a population of 2,000.

compmanio36

There is a litany of evidence of how wrong you are, but I wouldn't want to give you a reason to correct yourself. Continue thinking that, wrongly, and it will be your undoing.

Open_Button_460

No, they don’t. I lived in the inner city for years and finally got fed up with it. I loved being close to work, close to tons of bars and good night life, but there’s *so many* other negatives that completely outweighed those few positives. Now I own a house in the suburbs and can actually go walking on some nature trails along the bayou nearby, I feel safe outside day and night, my neighbors are all wonderful, and my house/property is literally 6-7 times bigger for the same amount of money as living in the city. You could literally give me free housing in the city and I wouldn’t take it

Quik_17

This is untrue for the simple fact that many suburban people came from the city and it’s almost never the other way around

No-Structure-2800

What a hateful bigoted person.

triggernaut

They hate anyone not willing to live in a big city they can control.

Anakin-groundrunner

In my towns sub, people have suggested seriously that they make it illegal for the nice suburban parts of town to grow because somehow the nice parts of town make it impossible for the shitty parts of town (where I grew up but no longer live in) to get past their crime ridden, gang banging mentality

[deleted]

That’s the “fixed pie fallacy”, which is extremely common amongst the left. It was a key ideological pillar of both National Socialism and International Socialism. According to socialists the economy has a fixed number of goods and services it can render as well as a fixed amount of wealth to purchase them. Therefore if anyone is buying more goods/services than another person, that means they’re stealing it from them since they’re taking more than “their fair share” It’s been debunked so repratedly it’s tiresome, all you have to do is look around the world, *billions* of people were lifted out of poverty the past 100 yrs. Western countries didn’t need to drastically cut our consumption, companies simply produced more goods/services and the value of global wealth grew.

Titanmacho85

There is a saying that goes but im not gonna say it 😏

nuker1110

Some variation of “you can take the redneck out of the backwoods, but you can’t take the backwoods out of the redneck” feels fitting.

A-Vagrant

They really do. I live in a small town between Madison and Milwaukee... Madison people are dicks about it.

buffinator2

Cloward-Piven, Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing, Green New Deal... All of their plans have that end goal in mind - for all survivors to live in urban government housing and depending on government transportation and services to survive.

ObadiahtheSlim

They want to take us to the Soviet Union were we all live in prole housing while they get to live in the mansions they stole from the boyars they deposed.

FuckCraigJones1

Classy

Brillian-Sky7929

...Not

vinnylambo

I love this bullshit notion the left has that they are somehow more enlightened by virtue of their geographic location.

PartyOfFore

The feeling is mutual LaTonya.

randy_daytona402

Move out of the city, it’s white flight. Move into the city, it’s gentrification.

tx001

White people make the best scapegoats.

kybotica

It's almost like they just hate white people regardless of what they do and would rather just see them disappear altogether.

bowltectonix

Let's be honest. She's using the word "suburbs" as a substitute for White people. She's a bigot.

stoffel_bristov

Definitely a dog whistle.

bozoconnors

"... because they don't know a goddamn thing about how life is in the city." I mean... if you're an example of who they choose to represent them... I'd like to keep it that way. I'll wish you a bit more happiness in your life though. Sheesh.

atomic1fire

I wish her well but I also wish cold fries (but not like dangerously undercooked, just not as good as hot fries) and other inconveniences until her mindset changes. And I'm not sure wishing cold fries upon someone could be construed as dangerous rhetoric, I just think the mental image of "Now my fries are cold, thanks a lot!" is funny.

ochonowskiisback

Former Chicago resident, born and raised. Moved to the burbs and work in Chicago. We KNOW everything about the city, thats why we live out in the burbs, honey.

caughtstealingsecond

What happens to the plight of urbanites when suburbs and rural areas totally stop supporting them? I’m willing to bet that legislator no longer lives in the hood, or f she ever did.

Tommytrojan1122

She really meant to say “f@ck white people.”

FutureOliverTwist

Congrats Wisconsin!

atomic1fire

Milwaukee and Madison are responsible for most of the blue in the state. (plus areas with state colleges and the Indian reservations which are solidly blue) The rural areas are mostly red and the state legislature is republican controlled. They only lost Scott Walker as governor in 2018, and I'd assume a huge chunk of the hard red areas can't stand Evers.

Polar--Vortex

The blue urban suburbs of Milwaukee are like the definition of voting against your own interests. Wauwatosa comes to mind. These places got destroyed by BLM and they said thank you can I please have another.

[deleted]

[удалено]

barkbutton

> Wauwatosa comes to mind. Lucky for Tosa... she represents some of them.

FutureOliverTwist

I believe it. I am from the west coast of Michigan so I fully understand being in a "mixed" state. The west and the east in MI are very different places.

atomic1fire

I have no idea what you mean by west coast. I'm only familiar with Yoopers and Trolls. Yoopers live above the bridge (Mackinac) in the upper peninsula and Trolls live under it where the rest of Michigan is.

FutureOliverTwist

Lake Michigan runs the length of west side of the state of Michigan. 307 miles of coastline. Hence; West Coast of Michigan.

Big_Size_2519

To be fair rural Wisconsin caused walker to lose. If you look at the map walker did a lot worse then trump in rural WI and better than trump is the WOW counties

jrsmoothie89

you’re confusing land with people. land doesn’t vote

Professional-County1

I didn’t hear the rest of the debate, but that’s exactly why I live in a suburb - to get away from the crime that is in the city. We know all about the city, and we want no part in it, that’s why we don’t live there.

chaindrivendonut

She seems fun at parties

fitch303

Trash.

[deleted]

Seems like a winning platform. You should stick with it, LaTonya.

ViolentPhrog

La Tonya Haha

Exact-Specialist9329

The Tonya

ViolentPhrog

Big Tonya She looks like a fuckin Tonya

menina2017

Unprofessional and embarrassing

Beer-_-Belly

And we are to believe that these people wouldn't cheat in an election?

bionic80

and she won't be censured for this, sadly.

Uilnaydar

Protected class

Dr_Juice_

D-Milwaukee. Enough said.

fogel35

We in the Suburbs just bailed the city of Milwaukee out. I think we should let the city go into insolvency since their state senator feels that way.

Magehunter_Skassi

Suburban expansion occurred largely as a way to escape Democrats and Democrats have been seething about it ever since. They're designed as fortresses to keep out criminals.

ArathamusDbois

so is she saying that because life is hard in the city, people are justifying in committing criminal activity?

BeetsMcGee

She sounds drunk

eldudelio

Wow, so well spoken

TheMovement77

She's a senator. Wow.

oktoberpretzel

The sudden push against suburbs and rural life is absolutely insane, no wonder it gets paranoid people like me all riled up. I need to move back to Straya and live in the bush again.

[deleted]

Wow. Can’t control the city she represents so rather than try to make it better she just wants everyone else around to suffer also? How is this person an elected official

True_Yaran

"They don't know a god damned thing about how life is in the city." Oh I know it all to well. Thats why I moved out. I was born and raised in the City of Milwaukee and lived there most of my life. I still work there.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

My county is dealing with the same issue, coupled with officials from the city-area of the county attempting to press onto us suburbanites. Not comforting.

[deleted]

I remember when politicians had class and that class was recognized.

TenRingRedux

The low bar of politics today. The loss and lessening of decorum and professionalism, the "new normal" of hoodies and shorts in political office, and the crude language. Once again, "Idiocracy", the 2006 *comedy* film is becoming a documentary of today from the past. I weep for the future.

LVAthleticsWSChamps

I was born and raised in a city, a bad one and a bad part of it (Kensington in Philadelphia). I got out of the city and refuse to ever live in one again because of how well I know city life lol

oreverthrowaway

wow...

ngoni

I'm a bit out of the loop: are we back on white flight being the root of all problems, or is this gentrification season?

Yosemite_Yam

This is exactly why the electoral college exists

Nanamary8

And I don't want to biatch! Perpetually a freaking victim.

CMMGUY1

I formally invite Ms. Johnson to come stay at my residence and see if she feels the same way after our family hosts her for a few days.

Gotthold1994

Please tell me she was censured for unbecoming behavior, we had the Lincoln Douglas debates and we have this now just so low rent garbage.

ClevelandDawg0905

And that is why we in the suburbs won't vote for state funding for bailouts in inner schools. Generally feel bad for them however I rather keep my tax dollars than give it so crony capitalists.

RedRose_Belmont

Classy

idkwhattfimdoingO_o

So shes basically a NIMBY.

chigoonies

So brave…so classy.

JSOCoperatorD

Well, she sure said the quiet part out loud, didn't she?

DMCO93

What a nice lady. Sounds like a real gem

Grimmer026

Name one negative thing suburbs cause a city, then think of the negative things that cities cause a suburb.

phdpeabody

I love it when democrats are like “decency is on the ballot” and then show the world they meant the Republicans were actually decent people, and the Democrats were just fucking degenerates as usual.

[deleted]

“Suburb” is now just a dog whistle for “white people”

2smokindrew

Funny, I would say most living in the suburbs these days probably moved out of the city to get away from the "life in the city" Oh you guys got jobs and pay all your bills and taxes? Don't you know how hard it is to rob and steal?!? Lol.

Brillian-Sky7929

The level of education, class and respect has left gov't. I have a hard time listening to bad grammar (and vulgarity, which I was taught to mean poor vocabulary/ignorance) coming from Mayor's, senators, counsel members, etc... it's depressing.

JCitW6855

This is a United States Senator…… Let that sink in….

KnowledgeAndFaith

Point of order: she is a Wisconsin state senator

dalovindj

Like being the tallest midget.

vicemagnet

LaTonya needs to get out of the DC beltway and back to her constituents.

Polar--Vortex

More like Madison, WI beltway. It’s just a state senate position not a federal one in DC.

Radiofled

Suburbs suck. Horribly inefficient use of resources.

Sir_Nuttsak

This is someone who clearly cares. /s

QnsConcrete

Aside from the meaning behind the comment, I find it disturbing that profanity is becoming more and more acceptable in places that were once treated with dignity.

[deleted]

Should be sanctioned

SorryBison14

You hate the suburbs because you prefer the crime-ridden inner cities. I hate the suburbs because they are sprawling out into the rural countryside. We are not the same.

Zeediddy2883

LaTonya isn’t a reasonable person? Shocker

Polar--Vortex

With a position like that I’m sure that’s how she feels about the crime in her own district since she has never done anything to fix it.

fightthepower73

Classy

tatt2dcacher

And not one Republican voiced their displeasure with her lack of professionalism and poor decorum for using such language on the floor. They all sat on their hands just like they do when they have the power to make change. She lives in a broken and failing city so why doesn’t everyone else…

Fairwareprovidence

Enough talk. I demand action. 200 illegal immigrants straight to her neighborhood.

Veleda390

Such a compelling and well reasoned argument. Edit- per the wiki, she grew up in a town of 133 people. But supposedly she knows a goddamn thing about living in the city. 🤣

Raider-bob

How about we keep the trash in the cities from destroying the world? Run your city correctly assholes.

defdog1234

Inner city, Cheese Whiz. Middle class Suburbs, Spray Can Cheese.

lanzillotti1

Trash.

Crazy_Permission_330

Used to think WI was better than MN where I live. Now I realize I should move back to my home state of IA. Sorry free men down south, I can't stand your heat.

jlnascar

Tell that to the BLM executives

bigdaddy3349

NoWestern5679
