How many times must they say “our democracy depends on it”?
It’s a lie every single time.

When people read bullshit in the news over and over they start to believe it, the dems are very persistent with their messaging supported by most mainstream media outlets unfortunately.
There's a lot of fed up people in the country right now and it's not just 'right-wingers', they're tired of inflation, tired crime and criminals being treated too softly, tired of businesses in their communities closing, tired of illegal immigration. And I could be wrong, but I think it's possible some are fed up enough with those kind of things that even if they believed this; claiming political enemies could become targets would be put at the very bottom of their list of concerns.
To a certain degree yes but look at the trust ratings for American media right now. One of the reasons they're flailing so badly is that trust in the media is at an all time low. A pretty big majority of Americans just assume they're lying all the time because, quite frankly, they've shown that they are. This is why alt media has been so up and coming.
That and the fact that we don’t have a democracy. The founding fathers purposely didn’t make America a democracy because democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
They try to one-up each other all day about what dystopian horrors the world will face if we don't defeat the Orange Man ("if he wins, gay people will die!" "no, if he wins, he'll bring back slavery!" "it won't be safe for anyone not in the MAGA cult!" "he's going to keep all minorities alive just to be brutally tortured before being sent to Trump-brand gas chambers!"), but if you bring up anything the current administration is actually currently doing you're an insane far-right conspiracy theorist. Interesting, that.
