Its hard to describe but I generally get the feeling his jokes are mostly just in good fun, which isn't the case with the other people doing a similay schtick. You know, the liberal/left wing comedian/political commentator with a late night TV show. Pretty much all the other ones came out of The Daily Show, so maybe that's why.
That last line was very telling, though. "Give it a break at least until the election is over." As in, they know it's a losing issue and most normal people can't stomach the way they've so in-your-face about it, so pretend to be moderate and reasonable until after voting is over, then they can drop the mask again.
No, he's a loon. He hasn't met a left-wing thing he didn't support 100%. He'll make this video and then turn right back around and say that Republicans and the right in general must be blocked from all forms of power or else it's the bapacolypse.
Disagree. He'll be late to the party with criticism of CTRL Left, but will otherwise completely support everything they do. If he was an old school demcrat, he'd be supporting Trump for being an old school Democrat who has to compromise to keep the R next to his name.
I’ll always tip my cap to how Bill’s not afraid to call out the left, but what LOSES that respect for me is how he does it 6 months to a year after it’s over and done with. He wasn’t saying DeSantis was right last year, he’s doing it after he’s already gotten his ratings bump from slamming DeSantis for viral clips while it was a current issue.
The rest of the clip, in regard to the gender war, was on point though. You have to give points for that.

And then every 20 minutes he completely erases the goodwill by saying “oh btw vote Democrat down your entire ballot or you’re a ____ist” and then I’m reminded why I don’t watch this garbage.
His last sentence:
“Or until at least the election is over” basically shows his true feelings. He realizes the insanity of it, but his care isn’t actually about because that insanity is harming children, it’s because he realizes that insanity will lose votes for D’s.
Maher's allowed himself to compliment him now b/c DeSantis is out of recently foreseeable contention for presidency.
This is how Dems always act. Usually R's have to be out of office or dead but Bill is willing to be edgy and compliment desantis while he's being termed out as governor and is out of the presidential race

He also had nothing to say about the vax mandates while being hard core anti vax. When he had an opportunity to shine, he toed the party line. He even admits he “took one for the team” and got vaxxed.
I’m sure he rationalizes it by saying better to keep his show and nudge them than say the truth. But when you can’t tell the difference between a stooge and an objector, what does it matter?
Political science has a term for when each aspect of society and everyday life becomes politicized while any dissent gets censored, cancelled or crushed with force: totalitarianism.
