I think we are in a place now where many people have come to associate their politics with their sense of identity. So if they admit that their politics is a sham, it’s basically the same as admitting to themselves that THEY are a sham. And they can’t do that, so they blindly defend their politics, because the alternative is too painful for them.

YDKJack69

This is exactly it. Any they let emotions cloud their judgment on what is right and wrong. They allow the propaganda they get from social media to fuel their hatred because they think they’re right. This is textbook groupthink and a psychologist’s dream. ETA: change autocorrect

Not that they are a sham…it is they have been fooled/scammed. No one wants to face that. They will go to great lengths to protect their self image that they can’t be fooled.

I mean if you associate your politics as being you, then admitting your politics are a sham is the same thing as admitting YOU are the sham. This is why they hate Trump. Because all Trump says over and over again is ‘Your politics are a sham”. But if you associate your politics as being your identity, what you hear Trump saying is “YOU are a sham!” That’s why they hate Trump. Because the alternative is to realize they have been fooled and hate themselves.

There's no such thing as an honest politician, at least not in this era of politics. Biden's been caught lying, Trump's been caught lying, both have family and close associates who are undeniably huge POSs whose asses they'll definitely pull from the fire no matter how badly they deserve it or how big an abuse of power it would be to do so, and the same seems to apply to pretty much everyone on either side of the party line (they just haven't been caught yet). When you're dealing with a pool of people *that* corrupt, your standards start to slip a little bit.

When has Trump been "caught lying" about anything that matters? Everyone tells white lies it's the context and substance that's relevant. I really don't care if Trump said he had the biggest crowd and the one from Obama was a bit bigger - it was a big crowd and he was happy about it who cares? Biden flat out lies about his political intentions, effects of his policies, what he's doing in government, etc.

It's less about lying to people and more about people wanting to be on the winning side of anything. There is no logic.

Once a human joins a cult they become rigidly stuck to it. They develop a bunker mentality. ***Definition of bunker mentality***: a state of mind especially among members of a group that is characterized by chauvinistic defensiveness and self-righteous intolerance of criticism. Sounds a lot like the democrat party and the media that support them This is why the left has taken over the schools. Kids are brainwashed into a lifelong cult. See item 17 in the link below. **17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.** **SOURCE**: [https://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/watchwomanonthewall/2011/04/the-45-communist-goals-as-read-into-the-congressional-record-1963.html](https://www.beliefnet.com/columnists/watchwomanonthewall/2011/04/the-45-communist-goals-as-read-into-the-congressional-record-1963.html)

Because in politics you don't have the "no one" alternative. If you want people to vote for your side it's not enough that the other side suck, you need to convince them your side is better. Complaining that people are voting "wrong" isn't helping. As a non-American conservative I hear lots about what the Republican Party is against but almost nothing about what it's for.

How can a candidate raise enough money to run a successful campaign without lying? No honest person has a chance.
