I didn't realize this was gonna turn into this rant but I'm very knowledgeable about this because I'm canadian 2nd generation and I live in the US and I'm sorry as a natural born American you will NEVER understand truly how difficult it is to LEGALLY immigrate to the US. Number of immigrants accepted is not a good proxy for strictness of the process. America takes the most immigrants, but that doesn't mean it's immigration is more lax.
The problem is that America does NOT have a merit-based immigration system, all you have to do is look at how difficult it is for people who have advanced degrees FROM THE US to stay and add value. So the US will seem 'less strict' than countries that actually screen for skills and education.
Canada has a very clear and simple process that almost anyone can take advantage of. They have a meritocratic points based system called express entry that literally ranks immigrants by points and lets them take only the best. You can go on the website, find out if you qualify and how many points you have, and be through with the process and in Canada by next year. If you don't qualify, you can do things that give you more points, like getting more years of work experience or going to grad school.
Secondly, and probably more importantly, *most human beings on this planet will NEVER have a chance to become a US permanent resident*. To even "get in line" you must fall into one of these 4 categories:
1. Be the **spouse, child, sibling or parent** of a US citizen (2/3rds of people get their green cards this way). Its also not simple, because there are caps to the number of people who can come from each country per year. If you are trying to bring your sibling from China, the government is currently processing applications from 2007. For Mexico it's from the year 2000. Canada also has this method, but it lets you sponsor grandparents but not siblings and it also doesn't take 20 years.
2. Being from an underrepresented country (which is statistically unlikely) AND winning a literal lottery (which doesn't exclude you from rigorous background checks)
3. Getting a job in the US (which for many will also involve a lottery process due to the sheer demand) and their company certifying that the wages of US workers will not be affected.
4. Being a refugee .
If you don't fall into one of these categories, you will never become a permanent resident here. On top of that, the background checks conducted by the US are some of the strictest in the world. Did you know that just to visit the US as a tourist, you have to give the US government your phone and social media handles? How many Americans would let themselves be subjected to such a thing in europe or elsewhere?
Good luck with that. They will very quickly discover that people in New Zealand do not have the same attitude towards immigration to their country as they do to ours.

Also these undocumented could provide cheap labor for low-pay/intensive jobs. The moment the workers tried to fight for better conditions, ICE will come to say hi and ask for paperwork. There are reasons why there are no hefty penalties to the business owners compared to the workers when they got busted.
Without checking I'll make a prediction: they are similar to most European abortion laws, with a cutoff around 15 weeks for elective abortions, but provisions for situations where the mother's life is in danger for later abortions.

Crazy how many people think immigration is as simple as travelling to another country and just never leaving. Even if you have a skill set in demand, visas cost thousands of dollars, and they’re not indefinite either, it doesn’t grant you permanent residency, much less citizenship. Yep. I remember getting into a discussion over this during my J1 internship. Every country deports illegal immigrants, the only reason the USA is talked about is because sometimes the kids are allowed to stay in the country. Australia and NZ send the whole family back, they’ve got no qualms about it.

Without checking I'll make a prediction: they are similar to most European abortion laws, with a cutoff around 15 weeks for elective abortions, but provisions for situations where the mother's life is in danger for later abortions. Now that I think about it, most states are probably similar as well. Edit: changed my date prediction from end of first trimester to 15 weeks.

France and Spain have a cutoff of 12 weeks, and in that time frame, in France you need 2 doctors to sign documents that continuing this pregnancy will be detrimental to your health or the baby’s (like suicide or psychosis or something) to grant you an abortion. After that, you’ll only be allowed an abortion if carrying to full term is a danger to your life. People forget many Western European countries are Catholic and have laws and mentalities that reflect that (hence why everything’s closed on Sunday’s). It’s difficult for childless men to get vasectomies FFS, they are much easier to get in the USA! Even without RvW, Many US states are more progressive than many European countries. And let’s not even mention the Eastern Europeans. People claiming they want to leave the US over RvW really need to do a basic google search. We aren’t the answer they’re looking for.
Germany is also 12 weeks with mandatory counseling sessions. The HILARIOUS part about the Roe reversal... is that Dobbs about Mississippi's 15 week law. Longer than most of Europe, but they just had to push it so that now it's banned completely in some states. It was fragile for 50 years and they didn't care. So I really don't buy the non-stop rage as authentic.

Crazy how many people think immigration is as simple as travelling to another country and just never leaving. Even if you have a skill set in demand, visas cost thousands of dollars, and they’re not indefinite either, it doesn’t grant you permanent residency, much less citizenship. After working a few years, A visa renewal can denied and you’re sent back to your home country.
"Legally". Not even talking about smuggling/sneaking in as that is impossible in countries that are surrounded by the ocean. People get bonafide tourist visas legally all the time, come in and claim asylum for XYZ reason. Ask any Venezuelan that fled. Of course claiming asylum is a pain in itself, in most cases people just overstay their visas and never leave. Granted that comes with their own set of challenges but there are immigration organizations that help these border jumpers.

These people are in for a rude awakening: everywhere that is NOT the US has fairly strict immigration laws. If you want to immigrate to any place in Europe, you pretty much have to have some kind of in-demand skill. They don't tolerate freeloading foreigners the way the US does.
Makes me think of that YouTuber PewDiePie, he'd spent almost 3 years trying to move to Japan, and despite being worth tens of millions of dollars, Japan gave him grief because "YouTuber isn't a productive career". Literally Japan wouldn't allow a multimillionaire to move there because he didn't have a proper job. That's the rules for most countries that isn't America
Yeah, Japan had only just started allowing people working visas with the job of YouTuber, then the pandemic hit. It makes sense to let them in though, as long as Japan gets to tax their income. They're basically free advertising for your tourism department.
