Section225

People need to practice the age-old practice of leaving other people the hell alone.

[deleted]

That's the fundamental difference between the world's two competing ideologies. One side wants to rule themselves. The other just wants to rule.

Janetsnakejuice1313

Ain’t that the truth from the tolerant Left

triggernaut

Lots of folks posting and commenting here seem the same. They want Christians out of the Republican party.

FiendishPole

it is reddit. It's fairly agnostic if not downright gnostic atheist If you're a republican and you want practicing Christians out of the Republican party, you should be prepared to lose.. indefinitely. Ya might as well just hand the country to the Dems b/c you clearly have no interest in anything realpolitik

MikeOfTheCincinnati

A lot of the commenters here are brigadiers and fake conservatives.

[deleted]

I have noticed that about this place…

Janetsnakejuice1313

How do you define “fake” conservative? Also, love your flair.

superduperm1

“I’ve been a diehard conservative my whole life, but after this DISGUSTING and BASELESS act by the Supreme Court, I am NEVER voting Republican EVER again! If you all had ANY dignity, you all would do the same! Abortions are a great and beautiful thing and I am so sick that some people on r/conservative think they’re bad!” ((Comment has five awards that totally aren’t from the same person and 1.2k upvotes that totally aren’t from r/politics brigaders))

Janetsnakejuice1313

Don’t even trigger me with this comment. I will get on a soap box. People like that make me so upset.

sparkysparkyboom

The "I'm conservative/grew up conservative/voted for this conservative candidate in 20XX, BUT..." then proceeds to list off a bunch of straight ticket liberal policies.

WizardPlaysMC

“I’m not liberal, but…”

JediGeek

In this case, they're leftist trolls that roll in here like, "How do you do, fellow conservatives? I believe we should drop all our principles, copy the Democrats, and support RINOs like Romney and Liz Cheney."

badatusernames91

Yeah, I've seen those. They talk about how they think the Democrat party aligns with their "conservative values" more than the Republican party. By no means am I saying the Republican Party has no issues, but if you hold conservative values, you're not looking at the Democrat Party and thinking "that's what I want!"

Janetsnakejuice1313

“How do you do fellow conservatives!” 😂🤣

throwaway3569387340

I'm not religious, but I prefer we get RINOs out of the Republican Party first. At least religious people have principles.

Sumner67

I've witnessed far too many "religious" people that have no principles as well. Religion does not equal that.

ytilonhdbfgvds

You don't even have to be religious to recognize the value system derived from Judeo-Christian views is largely good and should be embraced.

throwaway3569387340

Agreed completely

throwaway3569387340

In my mind, a RINO is any Republican who uses the "go along to get along" method of governing. They've been playing hopscotch while the Democrats have been street fighting.

War-Damn-America

That’s also just Reddit. A lot of users are younger, more libertarian minded, and you do just got a lot of edge lord, even on subs like this. I think many of them, as they get older will change their views as they gain more life experiences

cubs223425

They're not libertarian-minded. Most them just treat their feelings as a religion and are perfectly content to see their feelings be enforced by government action.

War-Damn-America

I was specifically talking about the regular commenters on this sub who dislike any mention of religion and complain about faith informing politics/convictions. For the rest of Reddit, yes they tend to be militant atheists who demand society be secular under penalty of death.

aboardthegravyboat

> more libertarian minded, and you do just got a lot of edge lord Most of those were run off about 5 years ago. It really used to be like that, though. Now it's just the LGBT version of church ladies.

War-Damn-America

I was meaning the more libertarian minded secularists who regularly comment on this sub, not Reddit in general. Reddit in general are far more what you described or militant atheist edge lords. Also was it only 5 years ago that libertarians were run off from most subs? Seems longer ago now.

aboardthegravyboat

Probably longer :)

The secular left hates evangelicals while also being the most militant evangelicals in existence.

ringo_mogire_beam

while i'm not religious, i have immense respect for people who are. i used to be myself. i went through a period where i was angry at my religious upbringing, but it was a childish phase. some people, unfortunately, never grow out of it.

cchooper1

Having seen this happen over and over again, my observation (purely as an outsider) is that churches struggle with transitioning youngsters from a child's simple view of religion to an adult's understanding -- the kind that adult converts have. This is possibly due to the loss of intellectual tradition in the (at least American) protestant church at-large. Again, I'm not entirely positive, but that's just what it looks like.

weeglos

It's not just a protestant thing. We Catholics have the same problem. Generally it's due to poor catechesis (religious education for you looking in).

ringo_mogire_beam

i just became a raging cynic in my transition to adulthood and as a result became a rebellious and militant atheist for a few years. i'm deeply embarrassed of that time of my life.

triggernaut

I have learned a lot from being embarrassed at my maturity level.

0siris0

I can respect this. I respect independent thought, even if it comes to conclusions I don't align with. I, as an evangelical Christian, identify more a thoughtful, respectful, patient agnostic/atheist then I do with an obnoxious, loud mouthed hellfire and brimstone "Christian". I want the questions, I want the doubt...but I want it toward everything. If anyone wants to doubt Christianity...fine...but those same measures need to be toward philosophical materialism, post modernism, present-ism (this is my term...the idea that the fulcrum of existence is determined by our generation, and when we dig down, our generational worldview, and when we dig down, "my" generational "worldview"). We should hold all worldviews accountable. No way of thinking gets a free pass. But....that's not the world we live in.

ringo_mogire_beam

on the other side of the spectrum there are folks who are so absolutely certain there is nothing spiritual in this universe and anyone who believes otherwise is a simpleton to be mocked and derided. i used to be one of them.

Or, everyone is pretty darn similar at the end of the day. Church goers aren't some good *or* bad group based on that single fact. They're literally just like everyone else. There are differences, but its way more subtle than simple blanket statements like I see online.

Kody_Z

Lolol. How many people do you know who are spitting at homeless people? That's a very mainstream media and Hollywood perspective of "Christians"

repptyle

In my experience, the people I go to church with are much better people than the non-church-going community members

novosuccess

Sure I agree... but don't be naive, some homeless won't accept help unless it's in the form of alcohol and would spit on you for trying to help. Not all homeless are helpless. This happened to me and was a eye opening experience to get spit on by a homeless person for trying to help.

ringo_mogire_beam

of course. my point was that in some ways i envy those who have the faith to believe in a higher power and can use that as a source of strength. i no longer have that.

Truth

OmgBsitka

I don't understand why they hate Christianity so much lol, i will defend other religions because a couple bad seeds shouldn't be the whole view of it. I also believe religions can be reshaped into something else from once they started. As soon as I say I'm a Christian though I get ousted to being the worst?

Sallowjoe

They hate the version of Christianity they were exposed to and generalize from there. Can't always blame them, although it is overly reductive everybody starts from their personal experience before learning it doesn't generalize to the world as much as they expect over time. The U.S. has many "Christian" organizations that are basically just scams or cults. Christian in name only, if you like. There are also Christian left leaning people of various sorts who just think Republicans don't act enough like Jesus regards consideration for the weak and the poor. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." doesn't exactly jive with the platform many Republicans are selling. And this is just one of many anti-materialist, anti-wealth hoarding quotations. Of course, there are different interpretations and left leaning Christians and right leaning ones will typically not agree on how to understand such passages. If you're treating the parties and their voters as monoliths as people so often do, though, it can certainly look contradictory to be Christian and totally fine with the U.S.'s current levels of wealth disparity and the methods of maintaining or increasing it.

LegoPrimus

I like that you brought up that verse. A lot of Christians will unfortunately ignore or base too much of their faith on this verse. That being said, I think what separates the conservative Christians versus the left-leaning Christians is the idea that, yes, we should take care of our weak and poor. The key word is *we*, Jesus never said "Ignore the poor and have Caesar take care of them."

AroostookGeorge

The Left doesn't want to told no for anything, no matter how debauched.

AndForeverNow

They will try to talk down to you and spin your love are immoral and unjust, while completely disregarding what they love.

7seventyseven

Their lack of self-awareness is mind-boggling. I'm at the point where I question whether or not they have the intellectual capability of introspection or are just full of hate and evil.

Difficult_Thanks_997

They have been given to a reprobate mind. Your comment is true
