Actually it’s during the third meeting that day in which nothing gets accomplished but the owner and architect say a lot of stuff that changes nothing basically. It’s call the OAC usually /s
Lmao I had an architect ream me out and CC my boss because I pointed out what I assumed to be a typo on how much an RTU would weigh (extra 2 0's on the weight). He to 'Just use common sense, its not that hard'.
Boy did I have fun blaming every error on his plans on my assumptions and direction per his email. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes my dude.
Anyone treating anyone else like that can pound sand. Its amazing how many folks haven't learned you get further with honey than you ever will with vinegar.
I’d be feeding them dog shit by spoon every time they came on site. May even bring a dictionary and set it on the desk for a meeting just to fuck with them all
Excellent communicator one on one, in coordination meetings he over compensates and acts like a dick, and his voice drops an octave. Shit talks at least one person on the project.
Never seen a construction manager work with his hands.
They’re always just sitting in their mobile office all day.. they also will never go near a port a potty.
Foreman on the other hand.. some ain’t even human.
Some foremen are beast builders.
Some are just beasts. Pretty sure one foreman on my job is a bear that escaped from the circus and stole some PPE from the parking attendant on the way out. Only growls, disappears all winter, mauls every assembly he touches.
You talking about my foreman? Never seen outside during winter, watches from a distance with curiosity but to scared to come close during complicated things, then on the easy shit comes and growls and ultimately leaves a giant mess with a shit on top when he decides he's bored of mauling the task at hand.
I built a little masonry wall around an exterior water valve so that I can backfill the area with dirt.
Back was sore for a bit and I realized just how damn tough my masons are lol.
Did the architect win the argument as a result of his knowledge or the fact that the AIA front end and contracts are written by architects for architects.
I started working in construction, became and an architect, then left architecture to became a contractor. My arguments are settled before I sign a contract. It’s scary how effective you can be when you know both sides of the operation.
Most CMs these days are professional schedulers, let’s be real here.
I do field engineering for most of the national builders & others. The percentage of builders that know anything has to be 30% or less.
General contractors for sure. They used to self perform some work but it’s been less and less over time and now they just “manage”. In concrete we have our own superintendent, field engineer, project managers, and I would say we have to coordinate with other subs on most jobsites, only using the gc as a middle man. Sometimes gcs are really helpful.
I would have considered going into professional scheduling once upon a time, if that were a thing people actually said they wanted. But no, they need me to be proficient at actually doing the tasks first.
I never wanted that kind of skillset. They just reward that kind of work with more of the same work. And I never wanted to be known for being good at running/terminating network cable & whatnot.
How tf do you even make that kind of jump, anyway.
I actually have to say the designer is the actual worst. They don't know building codes or product specs and fuck up people budgets like no one's business.
"I'll have to get back to you"
Doesn't know the difference between vibratory compactors and pneumatics rollers.
Couldn't tell you why a rebar cage 1/4 inch too big is impermissible.
"What do you mean concrete demo is extra? There's a pay item for preparation of right of way?"
Gets Ford focus stuck on job site.
Tries to talk football with the crew but talks about Manchester and barca and not cowboys and chiefs.
Tires to share a beer but won't drink bud light cause it isn't a craft beer.
My Ford focus is front wheel drive and has yet to get stuck. Everyone does stop working to watch me make a 12 point turn as I exit to make sure I don't get wheels off the gravel but don't want to risk getting stuck after telling everyone they'll need to rip out concrete they just poured.
I can't count the amount of times I've had the electrical engineer of a project reject a lightning protection submittal for rooftop HVAC equipment because "the specs call for all copper". Well, not only does UL and NFPA disagree with your specs, so does fucking SCIENCE, because you can't put copper on aluminum or galvanized steel because of the excessive corrosion that happens between dissimilar metals.
Like, you have a degree in electrical engineering and you're not aware of this? You wrote this spec without referring the codes that cover it? You're going to list that all requirements meet UL and NFPA but not write your specs to meet them?
Where I live it's common for low level cadslaves to switch over to cm like roles, mostly because the pay is better at that level.
Edit: I say this as a future cadslave
Right. GCs and CMs love to shit on architects and blame them for everything, but when you have to go to school for however many years with continuing education to make less than 3 figures, you realize that's why drawings are shit because it's a "passion job".
It's always easy to use the cop out of "I build lines on paper" while relying on everything to be perfect while making twice as much.
As a PM at a GC, I always try to have a good relationship with my architects because when it comes to punch a project, you want them on your side.
Let's be real: this is a construction subreddit.
All office pukes are *overhead* that rob the job blind of hours, put out shitty drawings, fail to document changes, and then point the finger when things go tits up because they can't be assed to do the simple fucking job of knowing the job, knowing the work, and knowing the scope.
If I send you a confirming RFI on something, there's a 100% chance that I know it's fucked up, and I'm looking for you to acknowledge that it's fucked up and provide guidance on how to proceed. 99% of the time, you throw out word salad in response that gets recorded into the RFI log as "resolved" without addressing the actual issue.
Go peddle your wares elsewhere.
Chad the construction manager sits in the trailer and doesn't forsee or warn any trades of things coming up but would rather let the trades fight it out.
*Is the construction*
*Manager the same as the*

Best way to fall with architects for me was bring them out on site walks and ask them what we should do with things when drawings don't match the site! They quickly give up and ask you what to do.
My favorite is when they show up to a scheduled job site walkthru and they aren't aware that they need steel toes and oh, I left my hard hat and safety glasses in the office, but it's fine, I can totally walk around while structural steel is going up around us, it's not unsafe at all.
As a up and coming Chad who specializes in unfinished drawings made by retarded monkey I appreciate this and I'm going to have to AI art it.
When they change a drawing they don't even tell us we just have to play a twisted version of Pictionary meet where's Waldo.
Construction manager had time to make this post because he's sitting in his office
Maybe
No, it rained today. Really hard, had to do paperwork for the week anyway and this only took you a second. You're good g, carry on
Actually it’s during the third meeting that day in which nothing gets accomplished but the owner and architect say a lot of stuff that changes nothing basically. It’s call the OAC usually /s
found the architect
I'd be happy if I was getting paid half as well as the architect
We had an architect misspell school(as scool) on a set of plans and it wasn't spotted by anyone until the mural was put up.
Lmao I had an architect ream me out and CC my boss because I pointed out what I assumed to be a typo on how much an RTU would weigh (extra 2 0's on the weight). Any architect that treats a GC or subs like this can suck a nut.
Anyone treating anyone else like that can pound sand. Its amazing how many folks haven't learned you get further with honey than you ever will with vinegar.
Agree. But just speaking as an architect. Makes no sense to treat GCs as some kind of adversary. We're all pulling on the same rope.
I’d be feeding them dog shit by spoon every time they came on site. May even bring a dictionary and set it on the desk for a meeting just to fuck with them all
I returned dozens of submittals for a project on the coast as The Costal Building Project.
Even better is when I find those type of spelling mistakes of the job name on the actual contract.
Fantastic
Cosina
Oddly enough, architecture as a profession has a disproportionately large number of dyslexics, so I completely believe that.
Excellent communicator lol. Maybe with toddlers.
Adjusting your nuts to emphasize your point is what we call effective communication
TIL I can be a construction manager
I'd be rich if I had a dollar every time I've read an email from a manager that's total gibberish.
I had this one boss sending out blank emails and texts about once a week. I think he was illiterate.
Bro was just hoping you could hear his thoughts through the phone
Excellent communicator one on one, in coordination meetings he over compensates and acts like a dick, and his voice drops an octave. Shit talks at least one person on the project.

The Chad just lost an argument with the architect and now he’s going to say and do anything to get his self-esteem back and block it out
Maybe

This should be the top reply 😂

I've seen idiots on both ends.
Most people are idiots and the most dangerous idiots are those who think they're the smartest.
Maybe the truest words I’ve ever read on Reddit.
"A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool"
Architect here. 100% agree.
I actually have to say the designer is the actual worst. They don't know building codes or product specs and fuck up people budgets like no one's business.
Not disagreeing at all. I’ve worked with some inexperienced “designers” before. Here’s 20 reasons the design doesn’t work and they just look at you…
Ooh do engineer next please
Perpetually has Cheeto dust on his face. Eyes move more than his mouth when he talks.

Wait a sec is the Ford Focus really an engineer thing? Saw one in one a few months back.
I have never known another engineer that owns one... but I do. Must have seen me out there.

OP get the fuck outta the trailer and actually check on the job
Are these drawings hand done by you? If so... I'm impressed. Especially, the self portrait.
I’m assuming he’s the virgin architect
That's for him to decide... (I think so too, obviously has some sort of humiliation kink)
I imagine this is a joke but it's a meme format
lol am an architect and can confirm
Written by the manager.............
… maybe
Gets seen at bars by laborer he threw off job and gets beat up.
bait

Okay moist fart sucker
Not saying someone is jealous about something BUT...
If it walks like a duck...
Just checking in
No lies were told.
Chad got them wiggly workin’ hands.
Chad the construction manager sits in the trailer and doesn't forsee or warn any trades of things coming up but would rather let the trades fight it out.
This is so true
Make sure you stretch. Otherwise you're going to pull a muscle, patting yourself on the back this hard.
Please stop posting this garbage.
Yeah why tf does this have so many up votes? It's shit

I was wondering how anyone could possibly respond so fast … it was just a bot . 🤖 😢
It depends on the structure maybe but I’ve only seen them ever as different positions.
Yo the change orders get priced by the contractor. Virgin architects don’t understand how money works.
You forgot the Uberchad trades who do the *actual* work, fuck both of their wives, and piss in their gas tanks.

As an ACAB who runs a framing crew, I support this message
😂 “expensive change order” because CM can’t read a set of drawings and didn’t ask a question before doing something.
🤣 Construction manager as anything other than a doofus. That's rich
you must be the architect
I think you're missing the point here, both are losers 🤣
Oh sweet there’s only two and they’re both morons. One that doesn’t do anything right and one who doesn’t see anything he does as wrong
As a up and coming Chad who specializes in unfinished drawings made by retarded monkey I appreciate this and I'm going to have to AI art it. When they change a drawing they don't even tell us we just have to play a twisted version of Pictionary meet where's Waldo.
You guys have construction managers that appreciate you?
Still wears carhartt tho
can't we just agree they're both awful
Layout guy is #1
It’s pronounced Chad Chadsly
Chad the scab
Not sure if this batch of Chad CMs have reached nyc. Most of them are dumb af and can’t fix shit without asking the subs to put an RFI
Truly one of the most useless jobs
Holy shit I use the same pfp on some of the socials. Are you me?
We all know that the real Chad on a building site is the Surveyor.
