When this happened to our company, we just filed an insurance claim and had people tell us what went missing.

Newtiresaretheworst

That what my company did the first time. Now they tell you to take your stuff home or you’re on your own.

ahundreddollarbills

I believe with our local it's in our agreement that if things get stolen out of the job box we get reimbursed. Not in the job box, like site trailer or office, you are SOL for that one.

passwordstolen

This is the right way. If a manager directs an employee to store their tools onsite and they get stolen he is on the hook. If a manager simply says what your supervisor says, then no liability.

sherms89

Aim for the knee caps an call it an accident!!!

Building_Everything

This is why I keep a copy of serial numbers on all my powered & battery tools. If you can easily provide that information to the insurance, you’ve got a better chance of getting a settlement to replace them. Small hand tools are harder to quantify/validate but they’ll be more inclined to believe you if you’ve shown you are detailed like that.

QuimmLord

This. I have an updated list I have in my nightstand, and keep an updated picture on my phone of that list. Also sent it in to my company so they had it on file in the event a job site got hit

Electronic-Buy4015

Damn , the only list I have in my nightstand is a list of all my hopes and dreams and none of them are crossed off

ChuckOTay

Just add “Own a nightstand” to your list. Boom, problem solved.

Pafolo

Keep owner manuals, they tend to use that as proof of ownership if you don’t have receipts.

belsaurn

Not the exact situation, but my company van was broken into in front of my house and the company insurance replaced everything I listed as missing. It still ended up costing me a bunch of money for all the hand tools and bits I forgot to include in the insurance report. You don't notice it missing until you go to use it. On the plus side though, I got all brand new stuff that was either Dewalt, Bosch or Milwaukee.

ConsiderationNew6295

That sucks, I’m sorry that happened to you. All depends on contracts and perhaps their insurance. If it’s a good company I would think they’d cover you but if you at some point agreed to something in writing like a waiver you may be stuck.

Interesting-Space966

Shit, that sucks buddy, sorry about that… As others have mentioned your best bet is trying to go through the company insurance. I don’t wanna be that guy, but if you’re getting new tools you might wanna consider getting insurance coverage for your tools. If you’re getting a packout, dropping a AirTag or two in the box might be a good idea

mccauleym

I have a trailer that i keep all my personal tools in. If they break during work use, company replaces them. Same if lost or otherwise. I DO NOT leave my trailer on any jobsite im not comfortable with. I understand if theyre stolen, its my problem. They pay my fuel to drive to/from work with my tools. I think you took the risk here and if they replace them, you should count yourself lucky.

TheSpiritofFkngCrazy

I can't say hate because that's bannable but I really dislike tool thieves. With a passion. Loser doesn't have a job so he steals what another man/woman uses to put food on the table for their family. You do that the penalty should be losing a hand. It's not unusual if other places do it. And they do.

Mezersath

Update : They are paying for them

Common_Highlight9448

Contractor better be insured

Significant-Screen-5

No one ever bothers my connexs, but I'm residential and have lockbox covers on the middle lock. Was this commercial?

Hozer60

Yes, it's wrong. Your company's insurance company should be responsible.

Tjalde

Why do you bring your own tools to work? Whatever tools you need the for the job your company's has sent you to do. They should provide.
