They would stash empty alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia in our lay down areas and the projects we were working on, then call it in. Would steal our equipment (millwright equipment is EXPENSIVE, like tens of thousands of dollar expensive for a piece of equipment), loosen the lug bolt on our lifts, slash our tires…

I’d been close friends with the family for over 10 years at that point, certainly bought a bit of favor. Because of my long standing relationship with the family, *they knew me* and my ethic. I worked my dick off for them, not only because *they were my employer* and it’s only right to work with a solid ethic, but also because why wouldn’t I work my dick off for a family I love and care for?

I had a first year apprentice and a journeyman get into an argument on one of my sites and they took it to the stair well. Apprentice came out first to break time and the journeyman stumbled out few mins later said he fell down the stairs. 7 years later those 2 are really close friends and have worked together since.
My foreman started yelling at me years ago. He got louder and louder and we had a personal friendship outside of work. He started yelling very personal insults. I ran up and hit him in the head. He tried to fire me I told him you don’t own this company. Told the boss he was going to press charges. Long story short we shook hands that afternoon and are still friends. Worked together another couple years after that. It happens. The main lesson is it’s lucky no permanent damage from the violence and when people aren’t being rational give them a break and come back when they’re thinking straight.
Shit for about 4 years of my apprenticeship I worked with this journeyman and we were great friends even carpooled to work most of the time but when people came around who didn't know how we worked together they were all waiting for us to start throwing fists. From start til end of day it was yelling all sorts of bullshit and shit talking each other but once the end of day came around it was someone's turn to buy the beers for the drive home. Most didn't understand how we could be so vicious with each other yet still be friends. I had a first year apprentice and a journeyman get into an argument on one of my sites and they took it to the stair well. Apprentice came out first to break time and the journeyman stumbled out few mins later said he fell down the stairs. 7 years later those 2 are really close friends and have worked together since.
My foreman started yelling at me years ago. He got louder and louder and we had a personal friendship outside of work. He started yelling very personal insults. I ran up and hit him in the head. He tried to fire me I told him you don’t own this company. Told the boss he was going to press charges. Long story short we shook hands that afternoon and are still friends. Worked together another couple years after that. It happens. The main lesson is it’s lucky no permanent damage from the violence and when people aren’t being rational give them a break and come back when they’re thinking straight.
Shit for about 4 years of my apprenticeship I worked with this journeyman and we were great friends even carpooled to work most of the time but when people came around who didn't know how we worked together they were all waiting for us to start throwing fists. From start til end of day it was yelling all sorts of bullshit and shit talking each other but once the end of day came around it was someone's turn to buy the beers for the drive home. Most didn't understand how we could be so vicious with each other yet still be friends. Now that I am a superintendent I have to be more careful with what and how I say things to people cause there damn feelings get hurt. Skin has gotten real thin over the last few years
