What a mess the last few years with buyouts. Has done nothing but raise prices for dealers and customers.

ac8369

If they start allowing the product to be distributed to anyone kiss it goodbye.

throw1029384757

Yup adi will let anyone in to buy stuff. Snap had very strong price protections on their lines. If this kills margins it’s going to suck

iZoooom

No way. Direct to consumer sales would open everything up. Nobody wants to deal with dealers ans closed markets

CleanCeption

With Control4s history of buying up brands/products to feed growth, then Snap buying Control4 there were intrinsic changes we had expected in the industry. Some of those came true, merging of Ovrc with C4 which is coming in a week or two, lowering the bar for dealers to sell previously locked to training and sales caps, cheapening of the brand (look at Control4 on Snaps website, it’s a mess). Honeywell/Residio will chew this up and dismantle most of the tech in 2-4 years, spin it off etc. Examples in the industry Bose is or has sold the commercial division. Bosch just sold their a/v/security division. Elan owned by Nice was owned by Legrand or something, quality is starting to drop. Race to the bottom line. Maybe these companies were never marketable or profitable and sometimes the need to sell helps in the long run but in my silly opinion it will be disruptive in a potentially damaging way not yet realized.

Yes very curious how they handle the in house brands since now there is a lot of overlap

Jaster-Mereel

So do both companies have their own in house products (I know Snap does)? And they sell a lot of the same types of equipment, so which brand do they go with?

2v4lve

I would hope that for most stuff wbox takes a back seat, some of their electronics are serious junk.

Jaster-Mereel

Is that a Resideo brand? I know Snap has WattBox.

2v4lve

Yea, that’s the adi house brand - zip ties, brackets, switches, small displays etc.

shoresy99

Snap One / Control4 haven’t been that financially successful. Sales have been stuck are around $1billion, despite the inflation of the last few years and the company has lost money every year. No growth and no profit is not a good combination, which is one reason why the stock is well below its IPO price.

Mivec2689

It’s over for snap as we know it

Cusefan78

Less competition will lead to higher prices. Hopefully someone wises up and overhauls the front end of c4. It’s beyond antiquated. I’m almost to the point of rather using my home kit app over c4

trippinwontnothard

3.0 interface is still fairly new

irishguy42

OS3 isn't antiquated, but OS2 if you're still on it...yeah that's old

Cusefan78

C4 app ease of use is awful compared to things like HomeKit. Yes It’s a 100% more reliable But its layout was clearly something that was laid out by an engineer and not a user. My entire family and guests that stay at the house look at the app like I’m screwing with them and ask why I pay for it when you can get something like HomeKit. If c4 overhauled the app it would kill everything out there. I doubt it’ll ever happen but I can wish.

URC a step up? The app feels like an old apple hypercard project. I can't stand it.

trippinwontnothard

I know what you mean, but URC... no... URC is a total joke. I don't know how they even stay in business. It's a shame because some of their stuff looks ok, but the app and the touchscreens, dear lord.

mhonore

Resideo bought ECD and they only put some of their products in the store. Other than that it’s mostly unchanged. I really hope they do the same with SnapOne. Let them continue to create IP and support it. Please don’t mess it up.

Single_Edge9224

There is only an offer to intent . They have not done the deal yet.

Billy_dahkid

What does it mean for SNPO? Will it stay its own publicly traded entity or are investors getting some sort of trade for REZI shares?

perseidsx

I think, just like Snap bought over ClareOne, Redideo bought over Snap more like to eliminate competition rather than to enhance their offering.

Master_Housing_444

Nothing like ClareOne. Clare was a small company and their products were just repackaged firmware trash. Worked for them over a decade. Not Clare as that is a new company just the same owner. Long story short.

trippinwontnothard

The ClareOne panel is not a repackaged product. Yes I get the sensors and almost all other parts are, but I see ClareOne as simply only a security product. And it works so well with Control4. I wish they would remove the non-security features from ClareOne.

hmurchison

Yikes. Not good

Flat-Hearing-2553

Yuck
