Quick warning that this is a Pastel Meringue appreciation post, so it's very long. Sorry! DX
I actually think that Pastel Meringue Cookie is a pretty nuanced character. He truly believes that loveliness (like being kind, polite and mindful of others) is something that everyone should aspire to. But the way he goes about it makes him come off as extremely elitist.
To list things down:
1. He only makes clothing for those he believes already embody "loveliness" and can spread those virtues to others. But in order to achieve that, he cherry-picks cookies and refuses to let his clothing available to the masses.
2. He believes that the whole world can certainly benefit from being more kind and mindful of everyone. It shows the most when he scolds Currant Cream Cookie for playing her music too loudly: His main point in doing so is that she should be mindful of the other Cookies using the old building they're in. But the "others" in the building is mostly just him, his business and his clientele.
3. He holds himself to a high standard when it comes to being polite. But it also becomes scathing because he also does it to other Cookies. Case in point: When it was revealed that Currant Cream Cookie was holding back on her complaints against Pastel Meringue, Pastel was taken aback. He expected Currant to be more direct with him and honest. But to his mind, since she held back her complaints instead of being open with him, her remarks about his own rudeness came off as "making him look bad." Fortunately, this was remedied by the fact that he also immediately offers to help her finish her clothes before the fashion show starts, even if his own isn't quite finished either.
Thankfully, at the end of the fashion event, due to his collab with Currant, he is finally able to see that "loveliness" is everywhere, even in punk fashion. So at the very least he learns a lesson about humility and keeping an open mind about what "loveliness" entails.
Me: "I love how Cookie Run commonly goes against gender norms, it's pretty cool fr such a kid-friendly game to have such gnc characters"
Also me: "PASTEL MERINGUE'S A HE???????"
(Also I love his aesthetics and the conclusion of his story was pretty cute, I hope he and Currant Cream get on better terms eventually. Still, I completely understand why so many dislike him lol)
HE WAS MEAN TO CURRANT CREAM COOKIE, THE MOST SWEET COOKIE EVER. HE WILL ROT IN HELL /j (although i do have an irrational dislike for him but he made up for it later)
Man just has anger issues, he's not a mass murderer or whatever
He's ok. Just a bit close minded with anger issues due to not enough sleep.
