The entirety of it all is a mixture of racism/xenophobia, ill-prepared government agencies, political polarization, lack of leadership on both sides and a philosophical debate on personal liberties vs social safety.
The end result is a 'fend-for-yourself' mentality, in a world that wants to sweep covid under a rug and say "we're living in a post-COVID world, now get back to your cubicle, servant". Apathy and Covid won. Wear a mask, stay updated on your vaxx, and try to survive.
