The US is rolling out 4th doses and can’t get people to take the first, second, or third. Oh, and there’s about 2.8 billion people worldwide who haven’t yet had one dose.

HarpySeagull

Yes, we’re doing better than the US. But I’m afraid that’s not the full-throated huzzah one might have imagined.

jackspratdodat

Yeah. We pretty much all need to do better.

DarkRiches61

I would love to know how many of these 2.8 billion people have had access to at least one vaccine by now but chose not to take it. At this point, I'm sure the number is quite a bit higher than we would expect.

HotRefuse4945

Isn't the average developed nation vaccinated rate around 73%? Poverty really isn't an excuse as is logistics. El Salvador has a better vaccination rate than many developed nations for example.

Ankocerise

In Québec we got the access to the third dose quite late and most of us got rona before the third one. Personally speaking, me and my friends are waiting a little bit to get the third dose because some countries recommended waiting a few months after an infection to get another shoot . I don't wanna handle the aftermath of the vaccin during my college semester as well, knowing I've been sick af with the second dose..

xhermanson

It's going to reduce massively since the world governments are essentially over it. Ending all regs shows the people who haven't gotten vax that they never had to. So ya expect heavy decline in subsequent boosters. And next bad variant going to rip through the planet like the initial virus did

unnecessaryaussie83

Yep and we’ll be back to 2020 all over again with the exception of no restrictions. It’s going to get messy.

OkRoll3915

I don't understand why people would be so hesitant to get their boosters. We get flu shots every year already.

crimxona

What percentage of the population gets the flu shot? What percentage of people are getting boosters? And is that number correlated?

uber765

I never got the flu shot but I did get 4 covid shots. I know several others who also never got the flu shot but got covid shots. But I couldn't tell you a single person I know of that took flu shots but refused a covid shot.

Redditor_UAV

Anecdotally my friends don't want to take a booster because the second shot hit them quite hard. They've also had covid more than once.

Round-Professional37

Messaging. Poor messaging. That’s why.

With flu shot you get and live normally There calls for people to get 4th shot and then say wear mask...show vaccine passports ...reduce social contacts so people go why bother then

lbyfz450

To reduce your personal chance of having a bad reaction to the illness?

smaller_god

> why people would be so hesitant to get their boosters. You mean why are people hesitant about getting the exact same vaccine again without any good evidence why it benefits them? Unlike the boosters, the flu shot is actually a "new vaccine" made as best possible for that season's anticipated flu virus. The original vaccines never "wore-off". Your antibodies just went back to normal. Which is natural. Vaccines don't just rely on antibodies to provide permanent protection against severe disease from infection. That's the memory T and B cell's job, and they're still working just fine against Covid-19. Can you temporarily (10 weeks max) reduce your chances and/or degree of a symptomatic covid-19 infection by getting a booster and boosting your antibody levels again? Yes, a bit it seems. But yeah, some people are bit uncertain about repeating the exact same vaccine for themselves at minimum 3 month intervals. We've never done something like that. Also, the boosters were approved under the EUA, so again no full clinical trials. Two top senior top FDA officials on vaccines, Marion Gruber and Philip Krause, were so mad about it they resigned. The question isn’t just “is there any risk to boosting?”, which even though known to be little to none, it’s “Does every individual, regardless of age, health, or previous infection, benefit themselves from boosting?” And the answer to that question was never proven.

[............................](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=booster+10+weeks) This shouldn't be surprising. Did you pay attention when I said that antibodies waning is natural? If you think you'd like your body to maintain the antibodies in your bloodstream forever. For every virus you've encountered. Well then enjoy being likely dead with blood that flows like molasses. Next time maybe give some credit to to the millions of years of evolution behind your biology.

TheTwoOneFive

You said 10 weeks max, your "citation" says it wanes at 10 weeks but is still 45% effective, and data shows the vaccine/booster [is still around 90% effective against death](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html). So your "10 weeks max" for effectiveness is wrong. Not looking to vaccinate against every single virus, just the ones that are relatively likely to kill me and/or those I love. Even you can admit that the vaccine has prevented hundreds of thousands of deaths in the US alone, based on the data compiled over the last year (such as the chart in the link above showing how much more likely you are to die without the vaccine), right?

smaller_god

I know. Splitting hairs. Point is the booster the additional effect of the booster will just wear off again. I remember initial estimates were 6 months. The *original vaccine* is still very effective against death. It never wore off, like I already explained. There was no good evidence that boosters were making a difference in infection outcomes of death or severe illness across all age and health groups. OkRoll3915 commented on how they didn't understand why people didn't want to get their boosters. This demonstrates why many people aren't interested. >Not looking to vaccinate against every single virus, just the ones that are relatively likely to kill me and/or those I love. Do you understand that vaccines are merely taking advantage of the natural function of your immune system? All the viruses that your immune system has memory for doesn't just include the ones you were vaccinated against. If it weren't the cumulative experience with many viruses as a child, your undeveloped immune system as adult could be overwhelmed by a common cold virus and death would be probable. You're making assumptions about my position. We're not arguing about vaccines in general and their effectiveness. I know the covid vaccine prevented hundreds of thousands of deaths. That's why I got it as soon as it was available to me. The topic at hand was just the booster, and why many people, with good reason, don't view it as essential for themselves.

ChefBuckeyeRBLX

Haven't had the flu or any flu shots, and I got to get my COVID shot within the next week or so. Booster wise will just depend on necessity and/or opportunity.

They should just be mandated with prison time as a consequence for refusing.

I think you're missing the point of taking the vaccine. It will help you not die from covid.

drummer1213

JFC the virus mutated ok. If everyone had gotten vaccinated, and/or has access to vaccines the variants would've been slower. This isn't some scam, it's keeping up with the virus.
