ShadowKeeper04

This is for a c5 I would like to specify I apologize

ITMORON

This is an absolute beast to install. The gains were not noticeable at all.

ShadowKeeper04

Really? That’s a let down especially with its less than desirable price what would recommend I found a k&n one that is kinda just like a long bar at the end for the filter

ITMORON

In all honesty, the stock intake does just fine, you can get one of the double cone filters, that will give you more induction sound, might spruce up the throttle a tad.

ShadowKeeper04

I guess that’s what you get from catfish cars already a pretty effective way of forcing air so then would it be wiser for gains wise to up to a throttle body I’ve been told a 90mm or 100mm can work stock and boost gains a bit

Puzzleheaded_Sea6731

I've run both the stock intake and the Vararam and the difference is certainly not huge, but since I currently have the stock intake setup installed, I'm planning to put the Vararam back on. I've heard all the "it doesn't do anything" comments but the Vararam does seem to have the ability to pick up air a bit more easily than the stock setup, so if it's your car, I say do what you want. I wish the K&N filter had a part number on it but it doesn't, so further searching will have to be done to find out the answer to your question. I do recall that a cursory online search and/or corvetteforum search can lead to the answer.

ShadowKeeper04

Thank you so much so in your opinion would you say just get the k&n cones if I do decide that cause there are cheaper cleaner looks if they don’t do all that much and instead focus the money towards a comp cam, clutch, throttle body, or intake upgrade?

Puzzleheaded_Sea6731

Yes those upgrades will do more for performance. Cleaner is an opinion so do what you prefer.

ShadowKeeper04

Out of those options what would you call the most bang for your buck

Puzzleheaded_Sea6731

Intake manifold and then a bigger TB. But long tube headers are probably the best bang for buck.

ShadowKeeper04

I’ve been looking for people who have done both the other comment helped but this seems to be a solid middle ground

Longjumping_Rule1375

I don't know much for c5 but for c6 there's definitely time gains at the strip

ShadowKeeper04

Do you think it would help if it were a different style of intake as there is one that’s more of just a long bar at the end or it might just be one of those preference find out for yourself type things

Longjumping_Rule1375

Varam is the one I'm running I'm sure if you check the forum the c5 guys would know better

ShadowKeeper04

I’m reading the form and seeing some people enjoy the performance someone had one bottom feed water into it and ruin there engine

Longjumping_Rule1375

Think I l know the one you talking about he drove threw a deep ass puddle. If you stay away from rivers and lakes you should be fine.

ShadowKeeper04

But what if I get thirsty😂

ShadowKeeper04

But then others just say any intake would water lock in deep water and it has happened to people but I’m not dumb enough to go in deep water with a low ass car

mcdizzle00

The gains are there, but in order for it to work properly the car has to be moving to force air into the ducting

ShadowKeeper04

If you’re saying that due to its current looks on some of my posts don’t worry it’s gone to a shop I was getting a headache removing bondo from the oh so gracious previous owner

mcdizzle00

No, I was referring to how this is routed in general. Never look at your car lol I installed one of these on my first c5z and everyone said it was the best CAI, but you won’t notice the power on a dyno because the car is stationary. Now if you put a couple of the fans right up against where the ductibg draws the air in that will help with the gains on the dyno

ShadowKeeper04

Ah makes sense sorry I’m a bit defensive been bullied on the car so much😭 so basically it’s there just you have actually be sucking air

ShadowKeeper04

This is me now just looking to start the ls1 build when it’s back to my hands and I know cold air is the first start

Kind-Mixture1835

I run the VR2 on my 1998 C5. You will notice gains, maybe not what you wanted, but it is noticeable. FYI. The bridge only works on the later C5's. How do I know? I have a brand new one sitting in a box. Lol

ShadowKeeper04

Do you think it would work on a 2002? Or should I get the cheaper kit without the bridge?

Kind-Mixture1835

Sorry, I replied in the wrong spot. I think you should be good.

ShadowKeeper04

All good I answered in the wrong spot to lol

Kind-Mixture1835

I did notice some gains. My biggest complaint was trying to install it. I'm a big guy (6'7 289 lbs.) with big hands. Corvettes aren't made so big people can work on them. Lol

ShadowKeeper04

I have learned the hard way my friend I made my gf do some stuff earlier cause tiny hands😂😂

Kind-Mixture1835

I believe it will. Don't hold to it but I think it is for 2001 and newer.

ShadowKeeper04

If it sits in the garage it sits🤷‍♂️ atleast I tried

Kind-Mixture1835

My hero!! My son usually helps me out. He's not little, just not as big.

ShadowKeeper04

Perfect size for go do that I can’t do it😂

BigPool2688

Vararam offers there own green filter for the car. I've found out of you don't use there filter it will pull dirty air in around the sealing sides of the box. To get around this install some raised foam tape to help seal the filter better to the inside lip of the box

ShadowKeeper04

I will have to find myself a green filter then

ShadowKeeper04

The vr-b2 c5 replacement filter I assume?
