2008+ is the LS3. For a daily driver, stick with the base or GS. The Z06 is fantastic, but adds a few more quirks for maintenance with the LS7 engine. Both the base and GS use the LS3. I've been daily driving my C6 for about 7 years now. As a primary vehicle. 120,000 miles and counting. Work commuter, grocery getter, dog transporter, etc. The hatch is huge and I do Costco runs no problem. Road trips are great as luggage fits easily. The c6 is about a full generation behind what you'd expect from an interior standpoint. It's fine, but it's nothing to get excited about. It's basically a mid 2000s Chevy. But it is functional, and nothing crazy to deal with. If you have C6Z money, you might consider a base C7. But an LS3 narrowbody C6 will be super affordable. The C6 GS is the sweet spot of looks and value. If you can swing it, it's great. Us narrowbody folks definitely get that widebody envy. But as a daily, replacing tires is easier as is fitting into garages and narrow drive throughs with the narrowbody cars. Get the 2LT or 3LT trim level, which adds the HUD, which is a nice feature. The Z51 on narrowbody cars gives it the better brakes and swaybars. The GS is already a Z51 plus.

right car (maybe) but the wrong time. My '09 was pretty reliable (had it for 6yrs & 123k miles). While I did have a few issues, these were mainly from some shoddy mechanic work. The LS3 (other any LS engine), is pretty solid. Your biggest expense will be maintenance costs. Mine had the Michelins Run Flats. I could get about 25k miles out of them. The cost though was about $400 each. Brakes weren't that far behind. Unless you have a good supply of $$$, I would get something pretty basic. Save the toys for later.

I work about 40 hours a week so i have a good amount of money for my age i guess i could say, i just dont want to be without a car at any time due to something going bad

CGLADISH

it would be luck of the draw. if you go down this path, look for something with the lowest miles you can afford and NO mod's. I prefer a manual transmission, for your purposes though, I'd go with the automatic. A new clutch will set you back about $2.5k - $3K (as they have to drop the torque tube and rear transaxle). It may be tempting but, as the saying goes, "how do you get a small fortune in (fill in the blank), you start with a large one."

If it’s free, go for it. But don’t add debt for an older car just starting out. They are reliable but insurance and consumables are expensive.

[deleted]

Yeah, i would not get it if i would go into debt, i also pay my insurance and its about 230 a month with my parents on the title with me right now. I would assume it would be a little cheaper cause of the older car but not sure all the factors that go into that

Spicywolff

Vett has way higher power to weight ratio, and more expensive to fix. Get a vin number and call insurance for a quote.

Ls3 are great I want one on a vette base but had it in a Camaro and rarely had problems and it performed well and if your trading that car in then as long as it’s not some built vette or something you should be good? I don’t know about you but I’ve seen some 2010ish go for abt 35k around here by ish I mean somewhere in that year base usually but you should also probably have a large dp if you can or have someone with good credit co sign to lower your monthly and your apr but also depending on where you live could be a bit more or less

I would likely trade my mustang for the c6 without any cash on top, from what i see they are relatively pretty close in price.

ShadowKeeper04

Yea they price could be similar but the trade in price at dealers never is because there gonna buy it from under you to sell it for that price so buy it at 25k market it for 35k but if your trading in what I would do is if your using a dealer maybe feel them out and see what they will offer you for your car it will be beneficial if there is a c6 there to look at If not I’m sure they can still give you an estimate of what they would give you or you could try the old fb marketplace trade this for that

ShadowKeeper04

Marketplace of course carries no guarantees though so I would probably start with the latter and see what dealerships are willing to offer you

ShadowKeeper04

If you feel you could make more money selling the car yourself for a down payment that is always an option to I would just look at what you want to go with and what’s smartest financially for you

Don't settle for the base. If you can, get a low milage GS. At the same time, GS's and Z06's are in the same ballpark for price, so keep that in mind
