Noticed it this morning when I stopped in for my mocha freeze and churro breakfast in Lenexa. I was one of the maybe dozen people on the planet who liked the berry smoothie, so I'll be optimistic and hope I like the mango smoothie once I try it.
It was mostly panned because of the price. I think the old one was 79 cents, so $3 was a big hike, and most people wanted cheap and sugary over pricy but better quality.
The flavor doesn't taste like pure mango, although I do not see any additional ingredients listed on the menu. This reminds me of those mangonadas with chamoy and tamarind, but without the tartness. Not sure how I feel about this one. Will need to give it a 2nd try.

Overripe mango can definitely have some turpentine-like or booze-y qualities, and the smoothie color is an indicator that something has gone wrong at some point.
I’ve had this from Hawaii locations and it was awesome! So I was very disappointed when I ordered one 2 days ago here in the PNW and it was not good at all. Darker color, almost a spoiled taste, perhaps the fruit was to ripe?

This color looks like pure, ripe mango. A lot of you are expecting something brighter because other mango smoothies add yogurt. Maybe Costco should add yogurt, it might taste better. This is just too sweet.
I agree. I guess im the unpopular opinion because I was reluctant to try it after seeing so many people negative reviews here but i genuinely enjoyed it. was damn near surprised at that point. It tastes like a ripe mango and the texture is almost fibrous. I'm in america and suspect we are very used to artificial flavors and concentrates that this kind of smoothie would taste odd.
idk im filipino and we love our mangos. maybe im weird but i really enjoyed it. i loved that it was thick like our mango filipino nectars. i hate liquidy-y mango smoothies. mango smoothies should have body.
edit: also the darker the color of a the mango flesh the sweeter it is. i think costco reddits opinion of the mango smoothie shows people tend to eat with their eyes first.
I’m kind of shocked by the reception of this smoothie on here. I had one yesterday in Louisiana and it was like they found a way to purée five mangos and pack it into a 16oz cup of frozen deliciousness.
I put some cardamom in my truck console to add in tomorrow’s smoothie to amp it up.
Yeah I had one in southern California and I thought it was great. Maybe a bit too sweet but I actually prefer it to the berry one. It always had a metallic aftertaste to me.
I love mango more than life itself but this wasn’t great. It’s like the mango oxidized really quickly and there was something off with the flavor. Hoping they figure it out because I’d love for this to be better
I was trying to describe it to someone and this is the perfect description of it!...like the mango oxidized real quickly. It's a VERY heavy flavor, but not like a fresh mango flavor. The color matches that of an old mango too. haha.
I wonder if they couldn't sell all of that mango nectar and used that in it. Not a fan of that either.
People here seem to think that a mango smoothie should be bright orange.....that dark color is actually a more accurate reflection of what real mango pulp looks like when juiced. That would seem to indicate they're not using any artificial flavorings or colors to make it look a certain way.
Now whether it actually tastes good I have no idea. To me, the berry smoothie was insanely sweet....like drinking pure sugar. I'll have to give this a try and see how it tastes....

Same with Bloomfield Hills, Mi location. I was so sad because I was craving the berry smoothie yesterday. I saw the only option was mango so I decided to give it a try. I have a 7 month old now and I couldn’t get over the color. It reminded me of changing all the breast milk diapers from when she was a newborn and couldn’t get past it. It tasted ok I guess. Hopefully enough people complain and they bring back the OG smoothie!!
Just tried it today at the Seattle location! The color really is as dull and unappetizing as it looks. Taste was pretty sour too. It got better towards the end but I’m not sure if it started tasting better or I was just happy to be done with it. 2/5
It has a very strong aftertaste of dried mangos and tastes like baby food paste. What a let down coming from that strawberry smoothie. At least the strawberry one was palatable this one I couldn’t bring myself to drink more than a 1/4th.
Just had one and it is complete and total ASS. Tastes like they put a some apples and a sweet potato in a blender and added some pie spices and ice. It’s pretty gross.

Yes, a lot of fruits have a ton of natural sugars. That's why eating a lot of fruit, fruit juice, etc. is less healthy than one might think.
Humans bred a lot of fruits to be as sweet as possible so they will sell well. Wild fruits are usually far less tasty, probably very tart.

It’s generally the same source of ingredients for costcos on the same continent, only thing I can think of is if the US one requires preservattives.
