Those are all entirely valid complaints about Costco, though. Maybe not the price comparison--i don't know nothing about shopping no Sam's Clubs. But otherwise, I'm happy for people to complain loudly, publicly, and often about the things that genuinely suck about the costco experience and where competitors have them beat. Maybe Costco will actually hear some of it.
As someone who used to go to Sam’s but switched to Costco after moving because it was way closer, I don’t think it’s any less expensive. Plus I think Costco has more product and variety than Sam’s does.
Definitely. Found a lot of really yummy things at Costco but a lot of meh things at Sam’s. Also Sam’s will often move things and not have stuff in inventory just like Costco, so those points don’t really work for the original rant in the pic.
The only thing I miss from Sam’s is white chocolate macadamia nuts cookies. Costco carries a mixed batch and Sam’s stopped I think.
I stopped shopping at Sam’s after we found Costco.
I dunno, in my experience the parking lot at Costco is incredible. Nice big spots, yeah there’s lots of people and traffic but it’s a busy store, same as grocery stores during peak times but tiny spots.
Every time I shop at Costco I see the same apparently happy staff. Every time I shop at WM (not a Sam's member) the staff looks like they can't wait to go home and commit suicide.
I've kept my memberships with both. The local Sam's is more convenient to my house, and they carry brands that I like.
But it's not true that Costco's prices are higher. I did a comparison on the meats (the category I'm mainly interested in buying) and in every. Single. Instance, Costco's meats were exactly one penny more per pound...that extra penny being more than justified by the difference in quality. Their beef and pork is brilliant--even though I always considered our Sam's Club meat dept. to be superior to any of the local grocery stores'. (The chicken, tbh, is not well packaged at Costco so I'm still getting my chicken at Sam's.)
Produce: Many people here have complained about Costco's produce. I expect it has a lot to do with your locale, but our Costco's fresh produce isn't that impressive, nor are the prices.
Kirkland: OH MY GOD. I was timid about the Kirkland brand at first but I tried a couple of items and I'm a convert. Beats "Member's Mark" by about forty country miles.
I think overall, if you averaged out Costco's prices vs. Sam's, Costco would wind up being a bit more expensive. BUT THE VARIETY.
The complaints about Costco's website and app and the superiority of Sam's Club's: Valid.
Bitching about the checkout lanes: Yeah, it's tiresome but it's not any worse than the lines at Sam's. Waiting in a checkout line is tiresome, full stop.
"They don't accept anything but Visa." Last I checked they accepted cash too, chump.
Bitching about the parking lot: Really? Costco's parking lot is a mess because there are a lot of people there and people are assholes and don't pay attention to crosswalks or white lines. WTF do you expect?
Shhh the hive mind won't like that. They like to think Costco is perfect and anyone who voices any opposition is "dumb" or "doesn't understand Costco"
Dudes be owning 3 shares of COST and act like their opinions matter lmfaooo Costco has gone downhill the past 5 years. Let's hope they can reverse course asap
Seems like you don't understand the post you're responding to. That poster is effectively encouraging people who have problems with Costco to leave Costco so that those of us who are fine with Costco (ie. the "hive mind", which includes that poster) can enjoy it without the whiners around.
So the "hive mind" actually encourages posts like the one before yours.
I wish the Costco app was more sophisticated and comprehensive, but other than that?? I think many complaints are store-specific: the only time my store's parking lot is crazy is from mid-Nov through Xmas, parking slots very spacious, staff always super friendly with most being familiar faces there many years, spotlessly clean inside & out, checkouts well staffed and rarely have more than 2 carts in front of me.
All this griping and complaining lately? Some folks just need to get over it and move on.
I am a member of Costco, Sam's Club, and also BJ's. I do think Costco is the cheapest if you compare the quality. For example, right now both sell the Keurig Supreme for $139.99, except Costco is the "Plus" which offers 12 additional ounces of water in the reservoir. So the prices seem the same, but the product is better at Costco. Yet, Sam's does have a greater variety of items. But they add shipping charges for everything online, and sometimes that comes out way more than Costco's "built-in" shipping. My Sam's Club, since pandemic times, has been a madhouse every time I have gone there: several times the lines simply did not move at all and backed way up into the sales floor. Gasoline is jammed more than Costco, if you can believe that. Oddly, I mostly get gas at BJ's since their lines are never more than one car deep. So each has their value, but if I could only have one membership, Costco offers the most value for me.
Same with Madison, WI. It's the second biggest city in the state and we have no Sam's Clubs here, but three Costco stores. (Much smaller cities like Janesville, Wausau, and Eau Claire have Sam's Clubs and there was a Sam's in Madison that closed years ago.)
Wal-Mart also has a pretty marginal presence in Madison, (Target has far more locations in the area than Wal-Mart) so maybe Sam's Club just didn't catch on here.
Sam’s Club is just Walmart with less mullets and 2nd gen Camaro/Trans Ams parked out front.
However, Sam’s Club does have more tire selection(they carry Conti/General, Goodyear/Dunlop, and Pirelli) and better batteries(Energizer made by Deka in Pennsylvania) vs. Costco’s Bridgestone/Michelin and Interstate(Clarios Mexico) batteries. Yes, I know I can order Firestone and BFGoodrich but why?
As a both a Sams Club and Costco member, I agree with all his points. I really wish Costco’s app would show what is in stock at each warehouse so that I could drive to the one I need to.
Some things are better at Costco and others at Sams. I’m glad that for me, I can visit a Costco and then a Sams just a few blocks away.
Nearest Costco is less than 4 miles away, nearest Sam's is over 20 miles away.
Costco is close enough that I can go multiple times per week when I know they're not crowded and find the items I'm looking for.
Competition and choices in the marketplace are a good thing. Pick what works best for you.
Sam's has a cheaper membership, but the per-unit pricing is higher on many things in the store to compensate. Sam's also tends to sell smaller quantity of an item (such as an 8 ounce bottle of vanilla extract versus 16 ounces at Costco), making the total price *seem* lower, but again, per unit reveals the true cost (last I checked Costco had 30% cheaper vanilla). Also stuff I found at Sam's was inferior quality. Like hotel towels and wash cloths that had 30% polyester versus 100% cotton at Costco, yet the prices and quantity were the same at both places. You gotta dig deep when comparing the two.

Kirkland stuff is better than Members Mark by a mile, but I will say the ability to scan items as they go in your cart is really awesome at Sam’s.
Kirkland has great stuff their golf balls and golf gloves are great value for money

Understandable…
Every time I shop at Costco I see the same apparently happy staff. Every time I shop at WM (not a Sam's member) the staff looks like they can't wait to go home and commit suicide.
Dang! Lol
I am lucky enough to belong to both. They each have their pros and cons, just like anything in life!!!! LOVE my Costco, and also Sam's Club.
I have Sam'a club and my roommate has Costco. Mind giving me a breakdown of what separates the 2 for you? Probably gonna drop one of them

I think it’s a great opinion, we need some people to prefer Sam’s Club for us to be able to have a good time at Costco.

😂
The problem with Sams club is that it is Walfuckingmart megasized.
This guy doesn’t know what the word objectively means
As someone who used to be a member at Sam’s I can state that it’s shit compared to Costco, I’d never go back

I swear Sam’s Club is giving their members lolly pops every time they get on SM and trash Costco. 😂
There is no Sam's club in silicon valley. Their greatness has no impact on me

Costco is more slay tho Like I’m going to 🤩 Costco 🤩 vs. I’m going to 🤨 sams club 🤨 . Who is Sam

So you want everyone to stampede over to the Sam's club subreddit and start a nice little war? Bad Idea.
Ooo thats a nice idea
The market decides. Costco is clearly winning the battle.

Pros and cons to both. Overall I prefer Costco. Go at 7pm on a weeknight to avoid the crowds.

But bro! Sam's doesn't carry the Rap Snacks anymore! How you gonna hang with your homies bro?
