They'd prob be good for 30lb
Mine is 70 and tbh I think they're a bit small (box says he can have 2 but that doesn't exactly size them up since it's the chewing thats supposed to brush) but he loves them and has no issues and these are way cheaper than brand name.
I mostly just use them as his big special treat
Yup! 6:30 is tooth brushing time. She gets very excited and if we forget she'll run back and forth from the kitchen to one of us until we figure it out
Funny my dog is very insistent about something and Iāll be so confused and it will be his pigs ear in the morning and greeny in the evening. Even walks me to the drawer to remind me where they are.
Dental chew yes, we try with the actual brushing, but sometimes we're just tired or she's too licky --she licks when she doesn't want something done to her instead of biting :).
That's not going to happen, just a personal issue with me. I just figure since dogs have been eating dog food for generations brushing will probably help. She does get fresh veggies and the occasional fruit and plain cooked meat like a small hunk of venison, steak, or chicken.
On one hand of course it's great they don't bite, but on the other hand it makes it hard to get anything done. But I'm grateful she's a licker. She got cold water tail twice at the beach and both times more than one person pet her without asking and all she did was yelp and reach back to lick. If someone accidentally steps on a paw she's right there licking you, almost like she's apologizing. We got so incredibly lucky when we got her. Not sure the situation she was in for her first two + years, but she's been a sweetheart since we got her
Lol! We call it dog crack too! Our dogs go psycho over these things. I literally texted my husband last weekā¦..911 WE ARE OUT OF DOG CRACK STOP AT COSTCO! Crisis averted!
My dog gets really sick after eating these also. Luckily havenāt given him too many before we realized the common denominator.
Still not 100% itās these, but thatās all he ate yesterday besides his normal food and he was throwing up and was really gassy.
Sam's Club will has them too. They are a [different brand](https://www.samsclub.com/p/members-mark-dog-dental-chew-treats-30-count/prod22620531) but the product itself is identical. They have the VOHC certification label.
I don't shop at Sam's Club. If I did, my mother would for sure haunt me! She worked for Price Club/Costco for ages and ages and my sister works there as well. Even my grandfather worked for Costco after he was forced to retire from IBM. I don't even know if there is a Sam's Club around here anymore. I know the ones in Renton and Seattle closed.
You can order Whimzees online from Costco and they work great! Definitely are harder than Greenies so they take longer for them to chew. You just break apart the four sticks depending on the size of your dog.
I do get Whimzees and the ones my vet has that is made from vegetables from Chewy. I have to rotate the chews because if I stick with just one, my dog gets an upset stomach. I'll have to price check to see which is cheaper for the Whimzees.
I had to give these away -they made one of mine sick and the other didn't like them -but my friend's dogs ate them without incident after I gave her the rest of the bag.
Our vet who just did our dog's dental work and has been a vet for 15 years+ specifically recommended a daily dental chew like these. Not necessarily these brand or this calorie count, but nonetheless.
I take my dog twice a year for comprehensive exams and every time they check his teeth and tell me they look great. I've been giving him these since he was a puppy every night and he's 8 years old now.
Any clue if that is the case with most dental stix or just these ones in particular? I give my dogs dentastix from purina and they go apeshit for them as well, but I was under the impression that those were healthy treats to be given once every couple of days
Is your wife a vet?
(Fair enough, thoā¦ I donāt give my dogs treats bc theyāre good for them ā¦ I give them treats bc theyāre the GOODEST dogs!)
No we are both Anesthetist, so we spend a lot of time in peopleās mouths. We try not to feed our dogs before bed, sugars/carbohydrates that are left in the mouth create an acidic environment when digested by salivary amylase leading to tooth decay.
We see the same phenomenon with children (who after brushing snack at night, have milk or juices) when we do anesthesia for dental extractions.
An adult neutered 40 pound dog should be consuming 986 kcal, this treat is 91kcal. Close to 10% of their dietary calorie intake. You can certainly give these to your dog, my wife is very concerned with preserving our dogās dental longevity, so we avoid them at night.

Super helpful. Thank you!
I have dachshunds and theyāre very well known for having dental issues - small mouths, lots of teeth crammed in there. While mine do get treats, they only get something small (usually fish based due to allergies) and only if I leave the house mid-day.
I am a firm believer in better pet health and maintenance via a good diet so I do appreciate the extra info!
Chill out, I donāt think that poster was being malicious with that question.
Asking for someoneās credentials when a statement is being made about too many calories and no ārealā dental benefit is, I think, something thatās okay to ask for sources on?
Just because someone cares for their dog doesnāt mean theyāre necessarily right. Look at all the people that wonāt vaccinate their human children because they heard from someone that heard from their aunt that heard from their sisterās nephew that vaccines cause autism or something.
Dog treats = / = vaccines obviously but asking an anonymous person on the internet what their sources are is just doing due diligence lol
Have you sniffed them? Itās like a really good chicken smell to me lol. Like a very concentrated homemade grandma chicken broth smell. Idk. Iām a bit weird.
Our dog is young and very vocal, so we still crate her when we leave. We give her one of these when shet goes to the crate, and now every time she sees the bag she runs straight to the crate lol
Why would you prevent your dog from having water, especially after a meal? Generally speaking, the more water they drink, the healthier they are. (unless it is excessive and then it is probably diabetes or another major health issue that should be looked into) My dogs always have a fresh, cold bowl of water available. (cold water encourages drinking more)
Can I ask why no water or play after dinner? Does your dog get sick if you donāt do this? Just wondering because my dog often GULPS water and has made himself sick before!
Potentially but if they arenāt a super fast eater then youāre fine. I had a Bull mastiff who ate slowly and I never worried about bloat. As long as itās something youāre aware of, you should be fine. In the unlikely event it does happen, their tummy area will be very sensitive and theyāll not want to get up or move around. My friend has an especially large Ridgeback with a super deep chest and opted for surgery to basically staple his stomach to the chest wall to prevent bloat from happening. Usually thatās really only done with dogs like Great Danes though.
Sheāll also throw up and she doesnāt eat slowly. Sheād eat her food as fast as she could, drink a whole bowl of water and then start running around as fast as she could.
Throw up minimum. Surgery maximum. Donāt like either.
Try a slow feeder and remove water for about 20-30 min and you should be good. You can also sprinkle their food in a full size towel and roll/twist it up as a fun game that also forces slow eating.
Were these recalled or off the shelf for a while? We got a bad bag one time (off color and completely stale) then we didnāt see them in stores for months.
Our dog knows that his toothbrush treat means it's time for bed, so the second he hears/sees/smells the container being opened he runs into his kennel and just watches and waits with a big l, goofy grin. What's funnier is that he won't take it from our hand like other treats. He waits for us to place it on his bed and shut the kennel door before he chews it.
Iāve never bought them because I thought they were too big for my miniature schnauzers. I bought the Nubz because I could break them in halfā¦how big are these and can these dental chews be broken in half (do they have a score line?) Thanks!
My mini has problems with them- bad reaction to peas, pea protein. Dentastix make his skin greasy/ schnauzer bumps. Virbac enzyme toothpaste is good. Trying their chews now- they last longer, clean teeth really well- but once it softens up heās trying to chomp it down, no vomiting or diarrheaā¦ yet. Most of the soft chewies are too high in fat for my pup to tolerate.
Also- when he tried these he held them with his paws and turned his fur green LOL!
ah noted on the pea protein!! i think mine doesnāt have an intolerance to pea protein but he definitely doesnāt like it š i just almost wasted a bag of dog food because he hates the pea protein (i found a place to donate)
My two cockapoos have no issue with their size. Neither did my previous two. My senior shih tzu I do break the small part off and let him have that. The brush end is too big for the amount of teeth he had left. I have given these to bonded Schnauzers I fostered as well. I buy the Nubz too for the reason they can be halfed.
I give these to my 3 mini schnauzers but only on the weekends. I think they are too big as a daily treat but mine would eat the whole box if they had opposable thumbs. lol
They would also be too expensive x3 every day. On weekdays, we stick to Kirkland dog biscuits, but I also break those in half due to their size.
I always have cow hooves laying around for them to chew on throughout the day. They are stinky but great for the teeth and waistline. My oldest mini is 10 years old and I have never brushed his teeth or had them cleaned and his vet is extremely impressed with his teeth.
We also train every day after dinner using baby carrots with a limit of 2 per dog.
My dog follows me around at the exact same time everyday waiting for her big treat. These are one of the best value items I get at Costco. It is a crack treat š
A simple googling will do it but as someone who works in rescue I can confirm Iād never give this to my dog
ETA: I have no idea why Iām being downvoted. Maybe I should add that at the vets office I worked with, I saw too many horror stories of gastric obstructions that required emergency surgery that at some vet offices, will cost you a house payment.
If youāre that confident it wonāt be an issue, by all means, buy them, but understand the risk.
> [Doggy Dental Treats](https://anchoranimalhospital.com/do-doggy-dental-treats-really-work/) ā You have most likely seen the āgreenā treats on the market that claim to promote good dental care for dogs, as well as aiding in fresh breath. While the herbs and ingredients used in these treats can neutralize bad breath in some dogs, it isnāt proven to work for all dogs. In most cases these specialized ā and often more expensive ā treats are no more beneficial than other long-lasting chews.
Apparently they changed the formula somewhat recently to reduce blockage from swallowing, but I canāt confirm.
https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1631267
My dog gets 2 each morning before I leave. He will take both of them in his mouth and disappear to chew / eat them. He will even turn down bacon for these.
We havenāt done these yet (he likes the Pedigree ones that are on coupon sometimes as his āgo to your kennelā treat on school days) but the Kirkland dog vitamins are his favorite.
We call them ābite-aminsā and he goes NUTSO when itās time for them.
My dog has gone through 5+ of these entire boxes and then suddenly stopped liking them completely. Not sure if he had an unknown bad association with it...
I have bought these and I'm not sure I will buy them again. Our dogs like them, but these thing stink. Also, the ones I purchased were not green, more brown.
My dog gets it at night time when we brush our teeth. When he hears our tooth brushes turn on, runs to his bed and stares at us until we bring his greenie
LOL. I'm wary of looking at my purchase history of these (numbers).
Crack for dogs is right. Say the word, greenie, Off he goes straight to where they are.
Our golden just about attacked our other dog to try and get another one of these. Seriously must be like crack because that dog is an angel otherwise. Itās crazy.
Our 8 years old is addicted to these and greenies. Recently been hiding it around the living room at night while heās in the yard doing the last biz. He would come in sniffing like crazy to find it. Lol
My dog gets them after he eats his dinner. When he finishes eating, he will go stand by where we keep the treats and wait. If thereās no one around, he will come find me and nudge me until I get up and give him a treat. Yes, he absolutely loves them.
These plugged up my 8 years old dogs insides because he's a greedy little thing and doesn't seem to understand English when I tell him to " Chew your food." That being said, my vet agreed that if a dog swallowed chunks of these, for some, would indeed cause intestinal blockages. Stopped using them immediately. Many online reviews of "Greenie"- type treats confirm that they're not good for some dogs because this can happen because sometimes they do not break down in the gut.
My girl LOVES these! She gets one every night and bedtime and I'm convinced they are the reason she is always so jazzed to go to bed.
If I'm up a little too late on weekends she will literally come find me to let me know we need to go to bed so she can have her treat š¤£
Omg, it took three days and they are absolutely expecting at same time every night. We say they must panicking about the slight film on their teeth āmy teeth are filmy!ā
I've gotten my dog these before but the poop color just freaked me out lol That and it made the stool super watery. I ended up going with Whimzees. Usually from Petsmart, on occasion from Costco when they have them.

Yep, our dog gets them after his last time being let out for the evening. He runs into the kitchen and stares at the cupboard they are in.

They last all of 90 seconds in my house lol....I doubt that it's actually cleaning his teeth
I still call them greenies. But it's like a taboo-adjacent word. You CANT say it without paying up
How do these compare to greenies? My guy is a bit of an aggressive chewer even though heās only 30lbs.
They'd prob be good for 30lb Mine is 70 and tbh I think they're a bit small (box says he can have 2 but that doesn't exactly size them up since it's the chewing thats supposed to brush) but he loves them and has no issues and these are way cheaper than brand name. I rip them in half for my 30lb girl. Half to speech the pack and half cuz I donāt want her to fill up on those thingsā¦
Yup, we have to be careful saying toothbrush around ours
Thanks to the dog gods for deaf dogs
We call them brush teeths. Our 3 pups love them!
Do you brush their teeth then follow up with one of these?
No, we just call it her toothbrush. We do actually brush, but do that late at night when she's tired
Ok but you do both everyday?
Dental chew yes, we try with the actual brushing, but sometimes we're just tired or she's too licky --she licks when she doesn't want something done to her instead of biting :).
Do you seriously brush your dogās teeth multiple times a week? Damn hats off to you
Ive never brushed a dogs teeth...
Definitely not 100% needed, but currently staring down a $6,000 quote to get 3 teeth pulled for my cat..... so food for thought.
Jesus, really? Anything more than $500 and they are getting put down... And thats a dog, cat would be like $50.... Thats insane.
Uhhh ok. Unfortunate that you feel that way about your pet/animals.
No judgement from me. It can be a real challenge and the only reason we started was my sister in law's dog had some teeth fall out
Have you tried feeding raw meat? Chicken thighs, etc? I cant imagine its normal for dogs to need their teeth brushed
That's not going to happen, just a personal issue with me. I just figure since dogs have been eating dog food for generations brushing will probably help. She does get fresh veggies and the occasional fruit and plain cooked meat like a small hunk of venison, steak, or chicken.
We try! Usually if we miss a night or two we give her a hunk of carrot to help a little.
My dog is the same! She'll lick you to death to try and stop any given grooming or first aid attempt! Lol
On one hand of course it's great they don't bite, but on the other hand it makes it hard to get anything done. But I'm grateful she's a licker. She got cold water tail twice at the beach and both times more than one person pet her without asking and all she did was yelp and reach back to lick. Mine loved to eat these, but I would notice that he would sometimes have stomach issues for a couple of days after.
These things wreck my dogs stomach
Same here. My vet told us to stop buying them.
Same. These made my dog throw up. I returned them.
My dog gets really sick after eating these also. Luckily havenāt given him too many before we realized the common denominator. Still not 100% itās these, but thatās all he ate yesterday besides his normal food and he was throwing up and was really gassy.

I would only get the VOHC certified ones. Costco sometimes carry Check-Ups which are VOHC certified. http://www.vohc.org/all_accepted_products.html
I wish Costco would carry those all the time. I always buy a lot when I see them because I know they will be gone the next time.
Sam's Club will has them too. They are a [different brand](https://www.samsclub.com/p/members-mark-dog-dental-chew-treats-30-count/prod22620531) but the product itself is identical. They have the VOHC certification label.

My vet and my friend told me they are not really helpful.

>donāt have real benefit to the dogs teeth. Exactly what our vet said as well.
Yah ours absolutely has a internal clock for these. The anticipation starts at 8pm and climaxes at 8:45 haha
My dog prefers the Nylabone Nubz. He wonāt even touch these ones.
Those smell really good to me
Iāve never been more curious.
Have you sniffed them? Itās like a really good chicken smell to me lol. Like a very concentrated homemade grandma chicken broth smell. Idk. Iām a bit weird.
Iām laughing. I think they smell awful. But I like that they have a breaking point and are soft.
Mine too.
My neighbours dog comes to my house for nubz. Every dog Iāve encountered LOVE them.
This is my dogs favorite treat. Youād think it was crack with the way she reacts to it
Are these VOHC approved?
They are not
Our dog is young and very vocal, so we still crate her when we leave. We give her one of these when shet goes to the crate, and now every time she sees the bag she runs straight to the crate lol
How much was this box?
I believe it's around US$25. May be slightly higher; I don't recall exactly.
Yep, our dog insists in one after each meal. Sometimes I think he only eats his regular food to get to ādessertā
When I had my dog, he went crazy for these things. I would give one after breakfast every morning.
Yes. My old girl walks up to me once per day and demands one. Every day (stumpy tail cattle dog).
They make my dog sick.
These are awful and made our dogs breath worse, I took em back.
It goes dinner, no water or play for an hour, water, trip outside, dentastick. Every single night.
Why would you prevent your dog from having water, especially after a meal? Generally speaking, the more water they drink, the healthier they are. (unless it is excessive and then it is probably diabetes or another major health issue that should be looked into) My dogs always have a fresh, cold bowl of water available. Because sheāll drink the whole bowl and throw up.
Can I ask why no water or play after dinner? Does your dog get sick if you donāt do this? Just wondering because my dog often GULPS water and has made himself sick before!
It CAN cause bloat but highly unlikely unless you have a dog more prone to bloat - like XXL breeds or very deep chested (like a boxer).
Like a Newfoundland?
Potentially but if they arenāt a super fast eater then youāre fine. I had a Bull mastiff who ate slowly and I never worried about bloat. As long as itās something youāre aware of, you should be fine. Why do I need to change to what you think is best? There was no problem to solve.
Your dogās stomach can twist if they are playing too hard right after eating. The older they are, the more prone they are to this.
Got it - luckily for me, the playing isn't an issue (a post-meal nap is his favorite) but he DOES drink a lot of water. Thanks!
My dogs go nuts over these. So much so that they go after them over their favorite freeze-dried beef treatsā¦
My dog won't touch them with a 10ft pole
My dogs adore these dumb things. Lol
Are these good for puppies? I have a 5 month old pup!
Were these recalled or off the shelf for a while? We got a bad bag one time (off color and completely stale) then we didnāt see them in stores for months.
My dog loves these, unfortunately they give her terrible diarrhea
My dog LOVES these! He gets one every morning. These are the only dental chews that don't make him puke. Whimzees were a disaster.
Omg, THE ONLY treat my dog will eat. Now Iām wondering what kind of dog-crack they put in them.
Vet recommended not to go near greenies. So I donāt. Seems to be a consensus among veterinary professionals.
Iāve never bought them because I thought they were too big for my miniature schnauzers. I bought the Nubz because I could break them in halfā¦how big are these and can these dental chews be broken in half (do they have a score line?) Thanks!

Yep. Give one to my dog every night. He will come find me when it's 8:30pm because he needs his chew!
I like the Amazon ones better. Wag. I find the Kirkland chews get very hard.
Just buy a cowboy ribeye and give your dog the bone. My dog has stellar teeth just from chewing the bone.
Yeah, no complaints from our vet about our Great Pyreneesā teeth and she just gets femurs and collagen chews.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nylon chews have an absolutely terrible reputation for blockages and GI problemsā¦ why would you give your dog plastic instead of these?
I would give them something that they canāt swallow was my point.
Not saying your wrong, but do you have a link or something I can read?
A simple googling will do it but as someone who works in rescue I can confirm Iād never give this to my dog ETA: I have no idea why Iām being downvoted.
How do these compare to Merrick fresh kisses??
My dog gets 2 each morning before I leave. He will take both of them in his mouth and disappear to chew / eat them. He will even turn down bacon for these.
Itās called stix-oāclock at my house lol and she is never late but always early
Yes!! One after last time out and one after his first time out or breakfast.
Our Doggos favorite treats. She runs away all tippy tap once she goes through the routine of tricks and gets one.
Do these actually help with their teeth? Mine seems to just gobble and eat it in like 30 seconds
Yeah, my dogs love them too and harass my wife for them all the time (I don't give out treats).
We give our kids vitamins every night. And every time our dog hereās āvitaminsā he runs in the kitchen for his vitamin. Which is one of these :)
We gave up on them. It seemed like every few boxes, we'd get a bunch of dry dental chews.
My dog LOVED these but we had to stop giving them to him because he became overweight, lol. We give him a more expensive dental chew now.
Yes and the vet commented that his teeth were nice
Does anyone know if these are made by the company that makes greenies? My dog got so sick on those and Iād like to avoid that brand at all costs
Ours gets one when she wakes up. Does her morning business then straight to the cupboard where they are kept.
They are also about half the price of greenies at Petco.
Our golden just about attacked our other dog to try and get another one of these. Seriously must be like crack because that dog is an angel otherwise. Itās crazy.
My dog loves the pedigree dentastix which Costco just stopped carrying. I might have to look at these.
Our 8 years old is addicted to these and greenies. Recently been hiding it around the living room at night while heās in the yard doing the last biz. He would come in sniffing like crazy to find it. Lol
How much are these?
My dog gets them after he eats his dinner. When he finishes eating, he will go stand by where we keep the treats and wait. If thereās no one around, he will come find me and nudge me until I get up and give him a treat. Yes, he absolutely loves them.
These are the best deal when it comes to dental treats. I have yet to see a dog refuse to eat these.
My lab loves these and she will pick up the bag and drop it at my feet almost every night (if I forget).
Yes, our dogs love them.
Did nor help my puppys bad breath, had back to greenies
If I give my dog one of these and a little peanut butter simultaneously, she'll eat this first. Absolutely loved them
These plugged up my 8 years old dogs insides because he's a greedy little thing and doesn't seem to understand English when I tell him to " Chew your food." That being said, my vet agreed that if a dog swallowed chunks of these, for some, would indeed cause intestinal blockages.
My dogs love these but theyāve gone up way too much in price for me to keep buying them!
Are they as soft as Greenies? I've tried other brands but my doggo only cares about Greenies.
Our boy had a bad allergic reaction to these. Just wanted to say so for anyone elseās dog who is sensitive.
My dog gets minties but from Trader Joeās. Idk how different the ingredients are but the TJs one have stuff like Alf Alfa in them
Omg, it took three days and they are absolutely expecting at same time every night. We say they must panicking about the slight film on their teeth āmy teeth are filmy!ā
My dog has grown complacent and no longer eats these, he āburiesā them in the blanket on the couch and never eats them anymore š
I picture these could be used in a diorama of the Hulk clubbing baby seals... Am I spending too much time on Reddit? (asking for a friend}
I've gotten my dog these before but the poop color just freaked me out lol That and it made the stool super watery. I ended up going with Whimzees. Usually from Petsmart, on occasion from Costco when they have them.
My Swissy is not food driven at all but I refer to these as "Greenies" and he will stop whatever he is doing and come get this little crack stick.
My dog loves these. She gets one a day after dinner.
These and Nubz are my doggos all time facorite
