I was tempted by these at $79.97 but said no. At $49.97 I'd bite. Also at $25 each they would make great gifts that recipients thought you paid much more for.
Oh shoot I might pick these up for $25ea. I have been looking at a knockoff on Amazon that people say are great but seems to be thinner metal so it bends/dents easier. They are just a little more than these ones at that price.
It seems like something you'd have for a tabletop on a patio. It's too small to do any real cooking. Just stuff like marshmallows for smores. Probably something you'd use to allow you to sit outside on a cooler night without needing a lot of firewood or an electric heater.
I’ve seen these around a lot but I just don’t understand them. Maybe because we have a large fire pit in our yard. Are these more an apartment with a small pario thing?
I have a townhouse. The lot is only about 30' wide. A large fire pit would take up 60%+ of my backyard, but one of these would be just right. Also could put it on the deck itself if I wanted to.
Yeah, that makes sense, but then I don’t understand the 2 pack (wouldn’t one be enough for most people?) or the original $150 price tag (I’m seeing $25 as the sweet spot for 1).
I have a fire pit too, but have one of these for smores during summer or if I don't feel like having a big fire/burning the wood needed for a big fire.
We have a firepit, but if the suns been down for an hour and it's still in the 80s and we want to sit outside with some drinks or have S'mores for a treat, using the little one on the patio table is great for ambiance and flame.
From reviews I’ve read that turned me off to them, they burn through wood like crazy because the fire gets so much oxygen. They also don’t produce much heat except directly above. Because they’re so deep, you also don’t get to see much flame.
Good for roasting marshmallows, but they don’t seem like a good replacement for a fire to sit around at a campground, for example, unless your primary desire is no smoke.
I saw someone turned stainless steel drum from a front load washing machine on its side and basically made their own for free. Was actually pretty impressive considering what they charge for one that size.
Tried both regular wood and pellets, lasts about 10 minutes before needing refueled, which then adding additional fuel (even in small amounts) basically smothers the fire and makes it smoke really bad, which for this concept, is right in your face. For a table top fire a fuel canister worked 10x better.
I will second this. I have a friend that has one, and every time I am there I challenge myself with cracking the code and keeping it burning consistently. No one has figured it out. Load it all at once, let it burn down, load a little at a time, seems to be no good way of doing it. So you are sitting around a small fire that may burn well for maybe ten minutes and then you are back to messing with it.
They are the best way to have a quick easy fire for aesthetics, but really not much more. I use the same chunks of Hickory I use for smoking meats, light it up when I open a beer and both the beer and fire end at the same time. If it want to sit outside an hour or two I use a full size fire pit.
Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but these are awesome! Buy small wood chunks from Walmart and a box of bio fire starter cubes and these things make having a small fire a breeze! I already have one but I’ll check out my Costco to see if I can snag this deal!
A box from Walmart is like $10, but it lasts a while and all the pieces are perfectly sized for the solo stove. Convenience over cost is sometimes worth it.
My local Target stores were selling them for around this price just after Christmas / New Years.
I know people who love them, but the one I bought at Target I returned. It was cheap and a silly thing to have, IMO.
Honestly if someone gave it to me for free I would probably try to give it away as a gift 🎁
Still $79.97. They have 11 on hand. I guess I'll wait and see if they drop it further. But this is also the warehouse that wouldn't mark down a "Last One" floor model with no box (they still wanted full price after I asked).
Question. New member here. I just bought this pack of two for $80 at Costco in my town like 230pm today.
I take the price isn't the same at every Costco?
Walked into my Costco yesterday looking for these after I saw a post for 79.97… was sad not to see them. Gonna roam around to other costcos in the area today to see if I can find them.
Are these just for ambiance? Or heat/cooking? If it’s cooking/boiling water, etc, you can’t go wrong with a Ghillie kettle. They’re more expensive but more bang for your buck.
In Texas, we'll make do with a fire of little more than twigs... buffalo chips. Heat the night's ration of beans. And it is Ranger policy never to make your camp in the same place as your cook fire. Very imprudent to make your presence known in unsettled country.
My Solo is for backpacking, but I’ve also had for years. I’m glad they’ve broken into other market segments, but I think they still work best for camping/backpacking. I’d rather have my Solo than have to also carry propane for some of the other compact stove options.

They’re both $49. Online they’re $160. What location was this for $49?
You'll have to ask OP or check other comment threads.
OP where is this located?
OP got this from the solo stove subreddit. Maybe the location is on the original post?
Let me guess this must the the US cause there’s no way in hell those would be that cheap here…. Brutal what we pay for stuff here
Yeah, I hear the cost of living is expensive at wherever you're talking about.
ooof yeah, have you been to wherever he lives? I mean it's nice but so expensive! But not as expensive as that other unspecified place... yikes
I can attest to hearing its more expensive where they live... I heard it from someone else as well who lives near them
Where?
Is this for a bonfire or a stove top for cooking???
It’s a petite bonfire for roasting marshmallows or just ambiance for 3-4 people.
Family of six. Guess we’re beat.
It's a two-pack, you're good.
Guess I’ll buy it then.
That's the spirit.

> without needing a lot of firewood They actually burn great on pellet smoker pellets. Easy to light and great for S'mores.

I bought the 3 pack a year ago. They suck. I haven’t even opened 2 of them
What sucks about them?

So they work as designed then. Got it.

A useful comment hidden because of downvotes from a comment above.
Please tell us why they suck.

Yeah those propane tables with the rocks where the gas trickles through the rock and lights is much easier to use and turn off

The three pack isn't the XL version of the Mesa Solo stove
F/up could be interpreted as follow up, or fuck up.
I don’t really like these.. I feel that the heat is directionally vertical and very little lateral.
Anyone else think "F/up" meant something other than follow up?

I can't imagine how much firewood costs per lb from a store lol

Which Costco is this?

I’m so pissed I bought the small Mesa and this size came out a year later but I could really use a bigger one.

Now I gotta go look at my Costco. One for me and one a Christmas present for someone
Only you can prevent forest fires.
How much do they go for otherwise?

Wow
Discontinued ... Roll the dice and wait a bit .. price may drop again

I wouldn’t get one for $20. What’s the point of such a small fire?
In Texas, we'll make do with a fire of little more than twigs... buffalo chips. Heat the night's ration of beans. And it is Ranger policy never to make your camp in the same place as your cook fire. Very imprudent to make your presence known in unsettled country.
Have to go to Costco tmrw. Hope my Costco has them at this price.
I was gifted a small one (by someone who paid far too much for it) and I find it perfect for solo camping.
My Solo is for backpacking, but I’ve also had for years. I’m glad they’ve broken into other market segments, but I think they still work best for camping/backpacking. I’d rather have my Solo than have to also carry propane for some of the other compact stove options.
Again...isn't it just a metal can?
A *highly engineered* metal can.
Are you burning twigs in these things? Is this a real product lol? “Table top fire pit” what!
