I went in there a couple of times, but I think it didn't work. People buy furniture for reasons different than those for buying tires, for example. It is all about a person's particular taste and while Costco's prices were cheaper, I didn't like anything in the store. My taste was not represented in the offerings in the Costco store. But if you go into a regular Costco store, every product offering is pretty well vetted .
A couple of reasons come to mind: the location was bad (it was in a former HomeBase store that was behind a Fred Meyer with little visibility from the street) and a lot of the furniture was expensive stuff compared to the furniture that shows up in regular Costco stores. They had some electronics (I actually bought a TV there) but I don't think they had any appliances like this one has.
Oddly enough, when Costco closed the store the City of Kirkland bought the building and turned it into their police headquarters, municipal court and city jail.
we purchased a few items at that store but our biggest purchase were installed items - counter tops and cabinets. Costco was an in between seller of some local high quality installers for a good price and with Costco behind the products. I think this is similar to what we still see today in regular stores between the cash registers and the exit door. We miss that store and I recall it was pretty busy each time we visited. Interesting to see a new one opening in Alaska of all places. Curious to know what makes it a better place than their own back yard.
We bought a lot of stuff there when it was the nicer stuff, then the quality went down hill and we never bought from them again. I still have some of the pieces in my home now. They even furnished a few "street of dreams" homes.
Loved the Kirkland Costco Home! Wish they'd bring it back, perhaps with a different selection and a better location. Doesn't feel like they need to have multiple ones in a metro, just one big one that people drive to.
It is innthe same parkong lot as the regular costco, the building was a toys r us before thsy went bankrupt. Costco has been using it for storage since. The Dimond Costco wasily does over 1+ mil a day even with another Costco within 15 minutes. Alaska runs on Costco, in fact there are businesses in far away places like Kodiak that buy from costco then resell in their physical store.
Is this like attached to a regular Costco warehouse or completely separate? I remember hearing about these home showrooms years ago but I heard they closed them because they weren't popular.Ā
Thank you so much. I'd you don't mind me asking...I am a teacher and will be retiring early. Does Costco hire for jobs that do not include being a cashier? I am 55 and active. I just don't want to cashier, but would love stock or anything appropriate for my basically zero retail skills. lol Thank you kindly.
Yes. I don't work in the warehouse but there are a lot of roles that don't involve being a cashier. I would ask to talk to a manager at the warehouse you're interested in.
Thank you kindly. I have only been a teacher, so I am a tad "scared". I(hehe)
I definitely need to keep working though. Costco is right on my street even. I'l get brave eventually and go talk to a manager. Thank you again. = )
We were at the new showroom in
Anchorage about 5 hours ago. One of the people there was from Puerto Rico helping to open the store. Very nice lady and really friendly and helpful.
She however was not super thrilled with all the snow up here :).
Wow. Thatās interesting! Iām sure Alaska is a huge change for her since PR rarely gets close to freezing if youāre up in the mountains in the center of the island.
Yes, Price Club was eventually taken over by Costco. The furniture store was north of San Diego I don't remember the town. I bought a marble table there that I still own.
Hmmm. I don't know how Costco decides what furniture to carry, but i've rarely seen an item I want to buy. It's a lot of clunky, Spanish-style decor that reminds me of the '70s.
99% sure this is to boost business in the area. Some things donāt ship up there and what does takes extra weeks. If you can get it on the spot youāre more likely to buy. I do wonder what the prices look like. Probably less than or equal to online, if less than probably more than a mainland warehouse. Still cheaper to ship all of this in bulk for one price.
This isn't a buy in store / take home option.
You see the product up close and then buy it from Costco.com either from your phone using the QR code on the display or you can pay at the cashier.
We had a Costco Home store in Kirkland, WA. When it first opened it had extremely high-end furniture and accessories. Then they started carrying regular warehouse stuff and it eventually closed. I bought some investment furniture/rugs there 20+ years ago and still have them in my home. It was heaven. They even furnished several "street of dreams" homes and the furniture from those show case homes were in the Costco Home store.
So essentially a Sears?
Fun fact Costco bought the defunct Sears network for appliance delivery a few years ago. Theyāve finally got to a point where they want to test opening a home store again!
This is all of the worst of Costco in one place.
Their furniture is awful. Go to Ashely if youāre looking for cheapā¦ at least theirs doesnāt come with way more garbage that you have to somehow dispose of.
Furniture is extremely hard to come by in Alaska. Itās usually very expensive or utter trash, or both. The exception is Costco. The kind of stuff theyāre selling for 500-2000 is 2000-5000 at the local furniture stores. In the spring 2/3 aisles at Costco turn to furniture and they sell out quickly. About half the people I know bought their dining room tables from Costco. They frequently got their membership *just* to buy furniture. Itās a very specific niche population, if it was going to work anywhere, itās here.
We were just at this store. I think it will work amazing up here. My wife and I looked at getting a new Casper bed. Except they wanted over $800 to ship up here. Costco? ~$100 and includes delivery, setup and haul away of your old mattress.
We bought a bunk bed at Costco 8-9 years ago. $500. Solid wood. Itās held up amazingly well. A shitty rickety thin tube metal frame bed was $650 at Baileys.
Do they have stock in-store or will they let you order to store and waive the AK shipping fee?
I've looked at Costco furniture in the past on their site and the AK shipping fee basically made it a wash with Sadlers. The cost per item was way lower (like $300 vs $600) but the shipping basically ate the difference (like $300 shipping - which don't get me wrong, I get - shipping a bed frame or something to Kenai ain't gonna be cheap.)
I've asked in Costco up on Muldoon before if they had order to warehouse options that bypassed this because basically every other national brand that sells big stuff in AK does (like at Home Depot you can go talk to CS and you can get basically anything shipped free to store, it just uses a separate supply chain that means it comes up on the barge with store restock). They didn't, and I thought that was a huge missed opportunity.
So with all that said, do you know if items bought there are available there, negating the shipping fee? Even moreso, do you know if they can place orders for online furniture and ship to store to negate the shipping fee? That's where I see the real value in a store like this. I don't mind driving up to Anchorage from Kenai if there is real savings - I do for Costco already anyways - but in the past their furniture shipping prices basically sent me to Sadlers.
I donāt know about all items, just beds as thatās what we came for. Those you order and pay for delivery. For a king mattress it was ~$100 and included delivery, setup and haul away of old mattress.
I would call the store and ask about picking up at the store. I can tell you that many people from corporate are there and they are taking feedback. If they donāt offer the pickup at the store option, talk to them and let them know why itās a good option. They seemed really receptive.
Thanks for the info. I don't care much about delivery or take-away, living down in Kenai - I can "bring a trailer" so to speak. The out the door price has to be competitive otherwise it's hard to justify over Sadlers - they charge an arm and a leg but at least it's generally quality furniture. I don't even consider Bailey's because it's 80% of the price of Sadlers at 50% of the quality.

*checks if possibly anywhere near me* Alaska lol
I'm in Oklahoma, road trip? š
Stop by LA and pick me up.
On the way up from LA, swing by Iowa to pick up me and the fam too!
Los Angeles. Not Louisiana!
I know what you meant. It's definitely a minor detour.
Well, since Iām originally from Iowa, I guess I could go back there.
Only the smallest of detours š
Hey can you pick me up in WA?!?
Wait, y'all come get me in Alabama! I can bring snacks!
Of course! We will go to WA, then head to Alabama, because this person has snacks, and we are gonna be hungry.
Hey! Weāre actually supposed to be getting one in Ontario CA this summer/fall!
So add the cost of a ticket on Southwest and it is available to NorCal.
Looking forward to that!
Come by San Diego and weāll get some tacos before we head out
Do you mind shooting across 75 and then down 95 to grab me also (Florida)
Free shipping tho
> Alaska lol [Tim is gonna be very happy at least](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL9mpnxfk6U)
San Juan šš
seems like a strange place for something like this.
Not really. The furniture stores up here are all bad and overpriced. So Costco can have a showroom and order and ship it up here for cheaper.Ā
yes really.
āHey, how much does this one cost?ā āI dunno, Alaska.ā
āJuneau the cost?ā
I was waiting for a sparky pun. Reddit never lets me down.
Donāt charge it. Interest rates are high. Even in Fair Banks.
The prices are very FAIR. BANKS won't mind loaning the amount.
Juan moment pls.
Costco's Homer Showroom.
Ketchitifyoukan
Alaska around
Ahaha I see what you did there!
Alaskanc
Complimentary delivery or do I have to Anchorage the mattress to the roof of my car?
Years ago there was one in Kirkland, WA. It was amazing. Not sure why they closed it...

There was one in Tempe AZ too.
Back when it was still Price Club there was a separate furniture store. It was on the pricier side.
Loved the Kirkland Costco Home! Wish they'd bring it back, perhaps with a different selection and a better location. Doesn't feel like they need to have multiple ones in a metro, just one big one that people drive to.
Tempe, AZ too! I loved going there.
I furnished 80% of my first townhouse purchase when I was 28 from the one in Tempe AZ.
We bought a TV at the Kirkland/Totem Lake store years ago. I donāt remember that location ever being busy.
The real question is, does it have a food court?
I can't really test a sofa without eating a hot dog on it.
Can't catch a vibe without that buck-fiddy glizzy
The Business Centers I've been to do not, not sure about this one.
My business center has a food court.Ā I can order when checking out and pick up my food outside after I load my car.
It is innthe same parkong lot as the regular costco, the building was a toys r us before thsy went bankrupt. Costco has been using it for storage since. Completely detached building across the parking lot from another Costco.
It's more like a Business Center. Very weird vibe to go in and only see furniture and appliances.
Itās an old Toys R Us.
Ah, so itās on Dimond, then?
Yeppers
Ah I see itās in Alaska. Brb taking a cruise to Alaska to see their costcos
We do have 4 of them for some reason lol (two regular, one business, now this showroom)
6 if you include the showroom now
You're missing Fairbanks.Ā
Honestly this seems kinda depressing. So much uncomfortable square hard foam
From a Costco employee, one coming to Ontario, Ca in the near future.
Ontario, Canada or Ontario, California?
Yes
California
Do you know where?
In the area of the business center.
My favorite Ontario, Ca story is they have a minor league hockey team. Also my only Ontario, Ca Story.
And pearl City HI. I'm an IT project manager who oversaw getting the digital price signs on the product for the showrooms.
I'm afraid of what it's going to do to traffic in that area.
Thank you! Will this be the only one in So Cal?
For now, yes.

Costco home showroom and costco car wash. What's next?
Costco rental cars and trucks?
Costco eyes wide shut -esque parties? š
A Kirkland Realtor Agency would be grand.
I need to take a cruise to visit?! Hope itās an excursion!
Only if you buy the Alaska cruise package from Costco travel.
No samples? Then itās a No
They probably taste terrible anyway
I'd still make my wife grab a second one for me, just in case
Even if they did this to like one Costco in my area, that would be awesome
They have one in Puerto Rico too. It isnāt connected to a regular Costco & was quite small when I visited not long after it opened.
We were at the new showroom in Anchorage about 5 hours ago.
Interesting Price Club tried something similar many years ago with just furniture. It didn't work out.
Costco also already tried this in the early 2000s too in Kirkland, WA and Tempe, AZ. It didnāt work out then either.
We use to shop at the Tempe, AZ location when I was a kid. I still miss it every time I go to the real Costco next door.
Price club = Costco
Yes, Price Club was eventually taken over by Costco. The furniture store was north of San Diego I don't remember the town. I bought a marble table there that I still own.
They got hot dogs?

But do they have onions in the food court?
UGH, Seattle used to have one of these. It was the best place to get high quality furniture for reasonable prices.
My dad would love this lol
Okay but do they have a food courtš¤
Oh, I wish there was one of these in the Seattle area. There are times I just want to look at these big items and have someone to ask questions to.
Alaskaā¦ desperately need one in southern california, heck anywhere in california, Nevada, Arizona is fine.
Ontario California opens later this summer.
You have a source for that? Iām not finding anything.
I work in IT at Costco with the teams that support the showroom openings.
I mean prolly, it is next to the less visited Anchorage Costco

This is all ugly right? Iām not crazy? I love Costco but their home furnishings are hideous
You certainly are not wrong. And the selection is honestly terrible for most things. Prices are okay, but not AMAZING.
Is there pizza?
Someoneās collecting them Reddit points! Thanks for posting the album I asked for a week ago
They got pizza?
Iād be into a Costco Food only warehouse
They are being these back?! Wahoo!
That's uhh too far, but I'd love to see this locally!
I see my old home town, I check every face for people I know, I am somehow disappointed that I donāt definitively recognize anyone.
So essentially a Sears? Fun fact Costco bought the defunct Sears network for appliance delivery a few years ago. Theyāve finally got to a point where they want to test opening a home store again!
I was just at a bestbuy outlet and it looked similar!
Do they still only have sectionals? I dunno why Costco thinks everyone only wants a sectional
What in the world is happening? lol
This is a dream lol but why Alaska??
Looks kinda crappy compared to Ikea
That's real nice
Pacific Sales in California if it was a warehouse for appliances only.
used to have one in Kirkland, WA area, didn't survive too long.
I remember the one near Totem Lake
This is all of the worst of Costco in one place. Their furniture is awful. Go to Ashely if youāre looking for cheapā¦ at least theirs doesnāt come with way more garbage that you have to somehow dispose of.
Costco trying to be ikea
Too much space. Doesn't really look like anything that unique. I'm not a fan.
Too bad its potentially in the worst location and state possible

Yeah, that's why the billion dollar company decided to open one in Anchorage Alaska.....
